- We went fishing at Lake Eildon last week. When I say we, it was the whole family that went but I was the only one that went fishing. The fishing was quite good too, better than I expected for this time of the year.

I arrived at Eildon Yesterday, been fishing the Golburn today downstream from the pondage. Caught some awesome, good sized trout today 😀.

Hey Rob I was fishing st Lake eildon for the last 3 days only got 1 carp. And noticed alot of people not catching much. And idea if I'm fishing during the wrong season or something? I was not getting any bites.
Hi beautifulwoman, it is a very hard time of the year in many areas. It depends what species you are after and what techniques you are using.
I usually pick up a few small redfin or roach on worms in the shallows at Eildon during winter. Those targeting big cod catch a few fish on lures, but they put in a LOT of work for them.
It is definitely the quietest time of the year. From mid spring until mid autumn is when the fish are the most active.
Curious. Are the red hooks more of an advantage? Got a few but never used them yet😂
To be honest I don't think so. I choose them based on size. On lures they might be but I can't see any advantage when bait fishing.
@robbiefishing ah no worries, i thought possibly it was something to do with less likely for fish to see as much of a glint from the hook n be turned off or not. Whether that would even bother them. Dunno. Im still learning😆
Is Lake Eildon no longer a popular trout fishery ?
Those that like to target trout there still have success. The lake still gets stocked with trout.

robbie we fished eildon years ago and nearly alll the redfin were around two to three pound mark ant trout two to five pound what has happened tony

I stuck a camera in a trout stream a couple of weeks ago and thought I had spooked a fish by bumping it with the camera. When I watched the footage, it was actually the trout swimming up to the camera and giving it a good head whack before moving past and slapping it with the tail. Not spooked, attacked.

Hi mate, I have caught heaps of both. A silver callop is the same as a normal one. They just get their silver colours from dirty water.

Autumn is nice for a bit of fresh air, not as hot and full of pollen like spring. The last carp had a fair bit of size to him and the lake was looking good for lures, fire up the old kayak maybe!
