Yet, it’s only just a minor spec in the much broader timeline of how long human beings have existed on this planet.
Even comparing to how long human beings have existed, it’s nothing compared to how long other living organisms have lasted let alone the billions and billions of years Earth itself has existed. From an astronomical relativity perspective, human beings have evolved rapidly within just a short period of time on the vast cosmic timeline.

Unequivocally one of the greatest music videos ever made. The contrast between the happy beautiful and absurd dancers and the raw terror of what we do to each other during the violence of war is such a simple profound message. We can dance lovingly one day and drop napalm on villagers the next.

My life is in a state of upheaval at the moment. I found this song maybe 2 months ago and wanted to let my wife hear it but she was getting sicker by the day and ended up passing on Sept 11. Now i just listen to this over and over again. Sometimes smiling, many times crying, sometimes just numb. But, this song really carries me over the valley of despair. If you see this, Capital Cities, thank you! Life can be rough but good music can help heal us. Blessings!

I think this video presents both sides of "humans". While one side is the accomplishment of joyous emotion, the other is dark misery and fear, This video shows that humans are capable of both, and that we can choose which one to accomplish.

The contrasting scenes from every decade since WWI are really powerful.
And the truth that we are NOT in fact "safe & sound" at all and have not been so for a very long time, yet still manage to live, love, and dance just fine.

This videos crazy, it shows the most beautifully disturbing sides of mankind, the good, bad, happy, sad, ugly, and gorgeous, how easy we can go from dancing arm in arm to hating to the point of mass fatality...hard to think about this song the same after just finding this video, been listening to it for almost 10 years now.
People think that this vid was bad because people were dancing through disasters and wars. I can see why they would say that but to me it looks like they are just lights of hope for us.

this song came out when i was in the military. we had a lot of fun, parties, but also training, fights and so on. no matter where i was, you could hear this song everywhere. this song reminds me of the military days. You guys, I was 11 when this came out and this was one of the first songs I ever downloaded. I didn't know this version of the video existed until now, where I'm 20. I wasn't allowed to use the internet much growing up (I used to secretly download music using my parents' office wifi) so I rarely got to watch music videos unless they were on TV, but I'm glad TH-cam just recommended me this, this is way more powerful and profound than the other video. I love you guys! Thank you for making one of the best songs of the decade, and one of the best albums of the decade. Safe and Sound is one heck of a earworm and it never stopped playing in my head for the past 9 years❤✨ It will forever be one of my favorite songs ever :)

Hydrogen wasn't the sole cause of the Hindenburg disaster (there was many other factors). Hydrogen was chosen because at the time helium was mostly stockpiled by the US and its allies. Remember this was in the times of Nazi Germany. Hydrogen was cheaper and provided as much if not more lift than helium did.

I hate that this video was not considered the better option for official public release. This one is so much more meaningful and expressive and artistically coherent. The part around 2:05 always gives me goosebumps. I watched this live on CNN while my father was deployed for Desert Storm.
Genius video. Showing that we don't live apart from history. Illustrating that while we as Americans, throughout our relatively short history as a superpower, dance away "safe and sound", we're being distracted from the atrocities being done in our name.
That's one way to interpret it. The way I see it, though, is a representation of the duality of human nature. The contrast between the verve, the life, the vitality and the beauty that we're capable of vs the death, destruction and sheer violence that we're infamous for... :(
I like that interpretation as well. The lyrics coupled with this video just pushes me toward mine. Just seems like America personified and its promising all these things, most importantly safety, if we support it, therein being "[it's] luck". This despite "the sky falling down", a "hurricane of rounds", a "title wave of mystery", and being "six feet underground", It continues to promise "we'll be safe and sound". Just a skeptic point of view though.
What makes it about America? By no means whatsoever was everything shown here exclusive to America.
Forgive me. America being used as an example, being the major world power for the past 60+ years. I was referring to, and more correctly should have said, any hegemonic power behind those violent images.

I first heard the song with no video on 2011 and when I searched the song on youtube back then, this was the official video and when I saw it for the first time I got goosebumps when I saw how powerful this video is.

This video is actually accurate to the music, the dances meant to be "Safe" and the Terrors of the Wars means "Sound", so in summary, the dancers are Safe and the echo of the wars are Sound, good job on this music and also the video too.

Estas equivocado, lo q se muestra en el vídeo es dar a conocer como uno o un grupo de personas hacer alegrar a otras personas y de lo muy bonito q puede ser, mientras q en el mismo video da a conocer como uno o un grupo de personas pueden destruir vidas y hacer preocupar ala humanidad, en conclusión tu estas acostado o acostada en tu casa mientras otros u otras están siendo asesinados, torturados, violadas mutiladas... la cruda realidad

Iconic video; my interpetation is that it dipicts America's security. Abroad they establish power by means of war while at home the people can thrive in prosperity seen by the celebration and dancing; being unaware of the chaos that happens outside the US to keep them 'safe and sound'.
