    I have the all-steel Colt version of this pistol. It's reliable and feeds hollowpoints fine.
    Compared side by side with my S&W M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm:
    Cost of the two was the same.
    Including the beavertail the two guns are the same length (S&W barrel is 4").
    The two guns are the same height with the magazines inserted.
    The slide on the Colt is slimmer, but the grip thickness is the same.
    The fully loaded weight difference is insignificant, about the same.
    The sight radius is 1-1/8" longer on the S&W.
    The Colt carries 7 rounds of .45 ACP and the S&W carries 16 rounds of 9mm.
    Trigger pull weight is a tad heavier on the Colt, but trigger action of the Colt is vastly superior.
    The S&W is far more comfortable to shoot with quicker follow-up shots.
    I carry both.
    I use Wilson 8-round mags in the Colt for 9-round capacity. With 9 in the gun and an 8-round spare mag that gives me 17 rounds of .45 ACP total.
    When I carry the S&W I have 16 in the gun and a 17-round spare mag for 33 rounds of 9mm total.
    When I carry the Colt I often wonder why I'm doing it... especially when the beavertail pokes into me... but I still do it. It's a 1911 thing. If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand.

    I bought one two years ago. I have run about 350 rounds through it. In addition to the factory mag, i have 2 ed browns and a wilson combat màg. I have used 230 gr rounds, 200 and 185. I have yet to clear a full mag without multiple failures. It fails to feed, slide locks open, slide does not lock open when empty. Feeds two at a time, crushes brass with the efficiency of a garbage disposal. I hàve a 500.00 paper weight. Thank you armscor!

    I bought a RIA Officer because I love 1911's and wanted one to carry. Mine didn't always go all the way in to battery, so I bought a new recoil spring from Wilson Combat. It seems better, but still seems to hang up just a little compared to my Ed brown, Colt and Les Baer 1911's. It seems to be reliable for me, but my buddy was trying to shoot it and had nothing but malfunctions. He's a big guy and I think maybe his hand was conflicting with the slide. I really don't feel comfortable carrying it yet. Just don't trust it.

      You NEVER forget you are carrying a1911 whether its a full size or compact which is why polymer guns are so popular. I think a 9mm is sufficient as a defense caliber with the right ammo and the ability to place the shots where you want them. RIA has given a couple of different answers and they, themselves, seem unsure since 2 of 3 e-mail gave different accounts and one of those to an executive level VP went completely unanswered. It took a few phone calls before they landed on either 1991 or 2001. Detonics came out in 1976.

    Muzzle safety? What is that? Please stop the misinformation. The guide rod is needed on a bushingless barrel, in this case, a bull barrel because of the reverse plug that is needed to secure the recoil spring. The full length guide rod guiding the recoil spring is just secondary on this pistol.

    • @edwinthorell1573
      @edwinthorell1573 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These are the standard Trijicons for the 1911 and they make other models. One model is a no-snag ramp at the rear, others have colored inserts to make them more visible in the daytime. These are just the plain 3-dot in white and the rear site is squared off, front face and back so that I can rack it one-handed off the edge of my belt or the heel of my boot. Have a gunsmith measure the depth of the dovetail in the slide to ensure proper size and fit before ordering and have a gunsmith use a sight press to install correctly

Since then I have returned them and been using Wilson Combat mags with an anti-tilt follower, so the rounds cannot nose dive. The Wilsons' have about 300 rounds them them and are amazing. I sent multiple e-mails asking about this with no clear answer. Even though I sent messages to RIA executives, that went unanswered, no clear answer was ever given. They kept redirecting me to their webpage and company history, which does not mention it. I have heard for years from many in the industry, that it was a Colt factory and this made sense, since during the war, so many different companies had military contracts to supply 1911s like Remington, Ithaca and even Singer. It was an easy jump to conclude that in 1946, the machinery came from Colt or one of the other contractors. RIA is somewhere between ignorance and indifference to the question. They either don't know or don't care. If they update or clarify, I'll let you know. If you have more info, please share.

      I recommend changing out al, the springs for starters. Also, one issue inherent to compact pistols with short slides is that you have to lock out your wrists. Limp-wristing does not allow the slide to move to the full rearward position because of movement in the wrist allowing energy to be deferred from the wrist and shortening the travel of the slide.

    • @HalfCrazy520
      @HalfCrazy520 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@edwinthorell1573 -- On the short-slide guns the slide cycles quick and has less dwell time at the rear... Therefore if the magazine spring isn't ON POINT it can't push the big 'Jesus rocks' up quickly enough and the last round in the mag will nose-dive on ya. Outside that, I have never had any failures with my 3.5" 1911. Some new Wilson Combat 8-round mags and it's totally reliable. Most reliability issues with 1911 pistols can be attributed to the magazines used.
