It's very simple, it's a tire that fits and they are way cheaper, better made, extremely long lasting and why wouldn't someone put something on their bike that keeps them from having to tear down the whole wheel just to replace a tire that is done in 15K? Instead put a tire on that will last you over 60K, it just makes sense.

Good thing you started with "Word of the Day" because you are riding the "Darkside" with that car tire!!!

I put a car tire on my 04 Honda VTX 1300c about a month ago. I have done about1700 miles so far on it and I like it. I can feel the difference, but it's not bad, just different. I can still drag my floor boards and do slow u-turns just as well as I could on the motorcycle tire. Granted, I"m not great at U-turns, but the car tire didn't make it harder.

I used a Goodyear Assurance Triple Tred V rated. It was a 205 wide, but can’t remember the side height (70 maybe). No modification of any kind to install. Loved it.

Car tire cost $100, and bike tire almost $300. Car tire gets 30,000 to 60,000miles, and bike tire gets 3,000 to maybe if you are slow, up to 10,000 miles. Not just any car tire, be careful of tread pattern.

@@alriv48 I know it was a Goodyear V rated triple tread. 205 wide. Fit with zero mods required. I THINK it was a 16 inch tire. But not positive about the height. Let me go thru my pics and see if I can see the side of the tire.

It would be much cheaper than buying a motorcycle tyre. Some of these rear bike tyres can cost over 300 dollars and they do not do many miles before you have to buy another one. You can buy one of the best car tyres for only 120 dollars.

Hey yo anyone, I’m lookin for that video from a pretty descent ways back. It’s all about wide tires on bikes like on all the Big Dog Bikes. Sean from SRK Cycles made and narrated the video. Can anyone answer me and I’ll check back for an answer of the video’s exact address or a link. Please n thanks a lot! If I’m thinkin right. The video title was, “Wide Bike Tires. How wide is to wide”. Or something like that.

I just picked up a 07 Vstar 1300. It had a car tire on the back a and a rear moto tire on the front. Both were new. Guy I got it from said they were on there when he got it in a trade a few weeks early. It made the bike want to stand straight up. However i just had them replaced with the proper tires. Just my preference seeing how my girl is usually on the back and I dont want to be an experiment.

You can buy one of the best car tires for only 120 dollars. Watch the video. The guy doing the test is happy enough and he never once complained about the road holding of the rear car tire. I am an older tour rider at 66 years old and I am going to try a car tire when my present back tire wears out. Some car tires that I have been looking at have a nicely rounded tread and are not so square. At the speed I go at it probably wont make much difference any way. Lots of heavy cruiser type American motorcycles in the 1920's and up until the middle 50's used car tires. Look at the older adverts for Harley Pan Heads and they all have square car tires on them front as well as back

Anyone curious about doing this should check out Fortnine's F9 channel. He goes into the science behind car and motorcycle tires and the effects of putting a car tire on a motorcycle. He is an experienced motorcyclist, so he has actual experience to draw from, not just theoretical science.

    • @killervids100

Nothing but respect for Ryan amd the Fort9 channel. Fact is he hasn't spent any serious time riding darkside. He mounted a tire did a video and went back to MC tires.
A pretty large group of us have collectively covered tens of millions of miles on the darkside without issue.
      The science isn't always right.

You know what come to think about it one thing I remember about the heavier bikes like 1,800 series and up and especially so then you know that's about as heavy as it gets for a motorcycle right well when you have really big saddlebags and you have them loaded down and you're going across country on a trip if you add that up actually those motorcycles on a standard tire you're going to be overweight actually on your tires so that's one reason why the bigger heavier bikes with those 200 horsepower engines they don't last very long they just don't the tires they don't they don't last very long so I was asking some friends of mine what do you do and they said well we've been buying wider tires and they've told me that the wider tire you go to basically they last longer so I've heard this from many different people I think that if you could go to a wider tire like that I think that would probably last a good amount longer for a bigger heavier higher horsepower bike now the lower horsepower bikes honestly I don't think that's going to make much of a difference

Taraxicum Officinale have to be careful who is saying it or giving negative reviews. Usually it’s someone who have never tried...just read somewhere of “someone” who didn’t like it or thought it would be bad...no one has had an issue with it that has actually tried it...tires fail, Car Tires fail and ...so do MC tires, for different reasons usually from misuse or improper inflations etc...it’s just if it’s a car
tire...the big bad boogeyman it out there to crap all over the idea.
Sources; well, you need to consider them as well, as anyone tied to the industry, dealers and tire manufacturers...well there is something in it for them to lose.
3-1 ratios or maybe 4-1, you think of the revenue lost, so they’re not going to say...yeah it’s awesome go out on a car tire vs our MC tires🤔
I put 40k on one tire on my 2006 1600 Nomad. 80k in two years
I’ve ran it in all types of weather, twisties; including the Dragon, USA Hwy 1 Red Woods, Death Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains...and I would never go back to MC tires...if the bike came with one, then sobeit however IF I could not find a car tire to fit the bike I was buying, I would not buy the bike.
It’s $120, for a good tire, try it...give it a good test and see...if you don’t like it, well you’ve lost 120, but if you do, just think about the thousands you’ll save over your riding time..that’s of course if you drive more than down to the coffee shop and back

Ok so I will tell you another thing. The car tyre has PROPER TREAD on it. Modern motorcycle tyres are the stupidest things that I ever saw in my 66 years of living. They look like slicks with random cuts in them. There is no continuity of tread pattern like the older tyres. It takes ages to find a tyre that has an acceptable tread these days. Those semi slicks would give me no confidence while riding in the rain. They just look like something that will let go at any time and slide anywhere in the wet. With a tyre that has good deep tread right around it with properly designed rain grooves inspires confidence that should a rain storm blow up then at least the tyres will be up to the job. With a car tyre fitted then you will have a proper allover tyre tread pattern that will be good in the wet. I am not talking about a sport bike here I am talking about a real man's motorcycle, a heavy touring cruiser that is flat out getting 4000 miles out of a rear motorcycle tyre. Bring on the car tyre and lets just see how it goes.

  • @MCTeck
    @MCTeck 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ok if live where there are no twisty roads. .The only time I would mount a car tire, is if the bike had a side car. There many motorcycle shops that will not mount car tires on a motorcycle wheel. Also, tire pressure is important. Too much air, no grip in turns. Too little air, wobbly handling.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to switch rounded motorbike tyre for automobile one. If you think you can overthink engineered parts for certain purpose good luck... It is not worth to save 200$ in exchange for your safety...

People have been doing this for years it is not new as car tyres last a lot longer. In the UK it is illegal though and I would expect that insurance companies might not pay out if you crash with one fitted. I wouldn't do it or recommend doing it but quite a few riders are happy with it.
