Great video I have this plant in UK. I get clumps I've trimmed and put a little strip of lead around it and the drop into position simple it then grows and u don't see the thin strip of lead after a week and it just spreads. Dot them about the tank and let it get on with it mi e looks great no co2 either 👍
@Mrmomtanks > I have Pearl growing in my Fluval spec 5, using C02 dosing, Osmocote plus in the substrate (eco-complete) and a Finnex Fugeray Planted+ 16 light. I did nearly the same thing you did, but instead of tieing to some base, I clumped clippings in vertical groups, loosely wrapped short lengths of black cotton thread around the base (1/8" up) and planted those about 1" apart all over the place, and they started pearling right away, runners growing every which way, and in one week had to trim about 2" of growth. I also have flame moss tied to spiderwood (same thread method, but knotted), and they grow much faster w/C02, but only vertically. Spread is still very slow, but new growth in the substrate is everywhere. My background Oriental swords grew new roots very quickly when 1st planted, but grow slowly otherwise.
This video is great. I love your no b/s, not so tedious method. I'll just have to find a supplier for such now as I'm not having the best of luck with hair grass.
Good tip. I've been planting stems in my 5 gal fish tank and not clumps. Didn't even think of that. Next trimming, I'll be tying a clump to something. Clumpmania!
with a well established carpet, do you ever touch the substrate when doing weekly water changes? How does vacuuming the substrate work (I don't have a plant carpet and use gravel)?
I know this is an old comment, but to anyone who stumbles upon it, in a planted tank you don't want to vacuum the substrate. Imagine the substrate like a recycling bin and a garden! Fish poop and decaying matter will get recycled and broken down by the substrate. Best not to disturb that process!
How long did it took to spread from a clump to huge carpet? And what can be the approximate no of stems in that clump you used as stores near me sell 14stems/dollar
Wow the pearlweed is amazing. Friends keep telling me the lighting is one of the most important things for the planted aquarium. I keep getting recommend to look at the Lumiy Lightline LED lamp. Suppose to be super bright lamp, and at under $50 very affordable (plus LED so low running costs).
Question sir: Can I put Fluorite in the front for the pearled and then use Miracle grow in other areas. And then also put Aqua Soil on one side to raise it up like a hill... Can we mix different soils in different areas of the tank? Not mix on top or together, but next to each other... ?
I just purchased a 40 gal breeder. I'm looking for a decent light fixture capable of growing a pearl weed, or hc carpet, and some high light background plants like ludwigia cuba. What kind, and brand of fixture would you recommend?
Do you know how to gauge lighting amount when using LEDs? Ex. a rule like watts/gallon cept for LEDs What is the difference between pearlweed and baby tears?
Hello, can you please help me? I am in a big dilemma. Pearlweed is classified as a hard plant in tropica.com. But it conquered my tank fully. On the other hand anubias, java fern or even java moss which are classified as easy plants melt with time. I am so sad about this issue. Can you please give an idea why that happens?
@Mrmomtanks Hey man how can I order some pearl weed? All of the links for your sites are shut down. I would love to have some for my tank. Thanks, Dan.
Pearl weed is most likely Hemianthus glomeratus, a native of Florida. True Hemianthus micranthemoides probably does not exist in the hobby and has not been seen in the wild since the 1940s. Baby tears are Hemianthus callitrichoides. There's also another form in the hobby that has not been scientifically described, a two-lobe plant sometimes called "Amano pearl grass."
Is it possible to do this with just liquid carbon? This plant was a stowaway in a bunch of moss I bought and since then it has grew into a massive bush.
Hemianthus glomeratus. However, you have the two leaf variety, "Amano pearl weed" which has not been scientifically described as of yet. I'm not sure why this is not a begginer plant. It's always been quite invasive for me, even in my low tech tanks.
Greetings from Nashville Mr. mom, I have recently watched a few of your videos about aquatic plants. I am trying to grow some plants from seeds for the first time, one of which is pearl moss. I tried to find your website firedupaquatics.net but I was redirected to a useless website. Can you please send the link to your website for ordering aquatic plants and such?
pearlweed is not hemianthus micranthemoides, that is regular baby tears..pearlweed is not babytears but good try..lol..we have regular baby tears too..its similar but not the same plant..
dude, this plant is seriously easy to grow! it even grows floating in my tank.

Should list the basic requirement for this plant and others, love the video on how big it is exactly and the planting tip
Aquariums are amazing. I love looking at them! That green "carpet" looks so lush

pearlweed looks really nice, but how can you do effective water change?

love your rainbows got the same in my tank
Hemianthus Micranthemoides a.k.a pearl weed is the easiest and fastest carpeting plant in my opinion. Just need good light.
Can you chop it finely and superglue it to slate? I know that works for some moss species
How long did it took to spread from a clump to huge carpet?
And what can be the approximate no of stems in that clump you used as stores near me sell 14stems/dollar
that is a good amount of plant you send out!
I also grow Hemianthus without CO2. 🤝
regular baby tears have little bigger leaves and a different leaf pattern..they grow very similar tho..same genus of plants i believe
thanks! relief that i don't have to plant individual stems!!!!!
Great Video Mr. Momm!!!
Just subscribed!!! Beautiful Plants!!
great video love the info that you give thanks I'm getting ready to start a planted tank ten gallon, low light any suggestions?
3:38 a-team playing in the background, seriously just watched the new mythbusters trailer for the M-team hahaha!

em interested. What kind of substrate did you use? Can I plant this with callitrichoides -cuba? I'm still a beginner.
The scientific name for pearlweed is Hemianthus micranthemoides. Keep the nano vids rolling, so far Jflesh has you beat with the nanos ;)
Awesome on the pearlweed. Been planting mine clumps and Cory cats keep up rooting it. Definitely trying the tile, Fired Up Friday!!!

hi i just want to ask if pearl weed can grow having sand substrate and will only use diy root tabs?thank u:)
Probably
really nice tank!!! i wash my tank would look that good lol
What substrate do you use? Do you use co2 diffusers or are those a gimmick. It seeks like most of the co2 goes up and out. Thanks for your help!
I have a Brand New back of Eco Complete. Can we use this instead of Flourite for pearlweed... ?
Thanks!!
