no, the "reporter" has been covering this team for over a month and knew she was not going to get an answer. She should stand up for her profession and tell her superiors that they lose credibility when they ask the same mundane question every time they have the opportunity.

Jonathan c I disagree. Coach has asked them all year long to quit asking and she pins him on national TV with what does appear to be a legit question to try to put him on blast to FINALLY answer it and he didn’t bite. Now she’ll get sympathy and become famous. The question was answered on the first drive and basically the whole game. She seems to be the only person who missed it. RTR.

Keep asking the same question when the Saint of Tuscaloosa equivocates on who the starter is when he already knows!!! That's unfair to both qbs. Saint Nick is desperately trying to assuage Jalen which is failing miserably. That's why he's being badgered with that same question for which he can't seem to bring himself to answer. He can't possibly expect Hurts to stay and only get mop up duty. Tua is the qb. SImply announce it. How hard can that be!??

I get why he snapped, it must be annoying for people to bring it up every time they talk to him but she was just doing her job. It probably wasn't even her idea to ask him about that , she was probably just asking what she was told to ask. His frustration is understandable and everyone has their breaking point, I just wish he would have handled the situation a little better than he did. But in the end, it's not that big of a deal. It's not like he cussed her out or something, he just said he wasn't going to say something that would disrespect either QB so the media need to quit fishing for it. He was perfectly polite the rest of the interview. He apologized to her anyways, so no harm done.

I don't like Nick Saban, but I feel he's had a good reason to tell her off. He should've realised however and this is where I agree with you, that it wasn't Maria Taylor's idea to ask him that, but I read that he eventually apologised to her. Sure, if I was a 'Bama fan or playing in their roster as the QB, I'd like more certainty, but if the press continues to ask the same question over and over again, you'll snap. I respect people who keep it real and don't have, as we say in German, a sheet of paper covering their mouths.

Why do reporters think they are entitled to be told everything. I like seeing Saban having his players backs. Besides, he merely said, I am not going to answer this line of questioning so quit asking. ESPN likes controversy because it sells. Nick Saban dislikes controversy because it makes his team worse. The media has been trying to blow this into a huge controversy since January and still are. I would have preferred to see Saban just walk away cutting the interview off after the first question and during a press conference, when the first stupid question is asked simply say, "Apparently there are no more real questions," and walk off the podium. If Maria Taylor can't handle being told, I'm not answering that question so quit asking, she's in the wrong job.

The point to me is that he should have already announced that Tua is the man going forward instead of continually perpetuating this LIE that both qbs are going to play when he already knows who's going to get the majority of the snaps. Don't tell me that you think he's going to continue with that when Tua gives Bama the greater chance at winning. Nick does have a horrible attitude toward the media. He's terse and arrogant. Granted, some of the media are just as terrible when they present infantile-like questions to him for which he is justified in responding in his trademark brusque manner. Yeah he's all business, but he should have been a little more gracious toward Maria when she presented a fair question that should have been already answered. He's equivocating in an attempt keep Hurts there. Can't have it both ways. 26-2 as a starter is enough for him to go elsewhere and start. Saint Nick knows this.

He knows when you don’t name a starter everyone is going to ask you that question and like Mack said Nick gets away with things that other coaches don’t and that’s not fair. Respect is respect. She asked the question respectfully and he should’ve answered it respectfully. I’m sure Nick will even look back and agree that he could’ve said it differently. I'm a diehard Bama fan & an Alabama alumnus, but I absolutely hated this moment last night. I have no idea why Nick still hasn't figured out he's going to have to address this topic once and for all in order to put it to rest. He's had 7 months to prepare for this moment. He knew this was coming yet he's done nothing but stick his head in the sand and hope it goes away. It won't.
He's given Jalen Hurts more opportunities to win this job than he deserves by now, and more opportunities than he's given other players to win jobs in his career. It's so obvious who the superior QB is. No matter how long or how hard Jalen works to improve as a passer, the kid just ain't got it. He's not a D-1 quarterback.
And I don't want to hear any of you other Bama fans saying we'll still need Jalen if Tua gets hurt. No. We. Don't. We'll never win a championship with Jalen Hurts at QB. Mac Jones is a better option at 2nd string than him.
If Jalen refuses to learn another position, then let the kid transfer. He adds nothing to our offense other than a dead arm, poor decision making, and unnecessary media controversy. If Nick keeps this up and remains stubborn in his defense of an inferior player, the problem will fester and become dead weight dragging down the rest of the team. It's not beneficial to either player, to the offense, or to the entire team to keep insisting Jalen gets chance after chance to redeem himself because he never will.

    • @frankadams5973
      @frankadams5973 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You are obviously not an Alabama fan you fool. Who do you think got us to the previous championship games? The Jones kid is just a roster spot filled. You know nothing.

    • @Britton_Thompson
      @Britton_Thompson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@frankadams5973 I'm the biggest Alabama fan you'll ever meet, bro. I graduated from the university in 2008 with a degree in English and have had season tickets every year since 2013.
It's obviously you who has the inferior football knowledge because Jalen Hurts will never win us a championship. I don't want to hear about 26-2 or Jalen putting us up over Clemson in the 2016 NC game in Tampa. We got killed in time of possession; number of plays called; and were abysmal on 3rd down simply because of Jalen Hurts's 3 & outs and inability to convert 1st downs. He's a one read QB who stares down his target; underthrows deep balls; throws slants & hot routes behind the WR; and flees the pocket at the first sign of a pass rush. We would've never gotten as far as we did his freshman year unless we had that spectacular 2016 defense that produced so many 1st round draft picks & set the NCAA record for most N.O.T.s scored in a single season.
I'm gonna be real with you here, even though I would never divulge things like this otherwise but I believe this situation warrants it...
You, and so many other Bama fans out there who just watch the games on TV, you all don't know just how toxic & divided that locker room had become at the end of the regular season last year. The entire WR corps was disgusted with Jalen's porous QB play. The O Line was annoyed that Jalen's first reaction was always to run the ball during the deep drop back pass plays because it screwed up their blocking assignments. After the Auburn loss last year when it looked like we were gonna be out of the playoffs and not have the chance to avenge the 2016 NC game loss, the defense was fed up with Jalen too because his lack of improvement was denying our seniors & our draft declaring juniors their shot at redeeming themselves from 2016.
So don't sit here and tell me I'm not an actual Bama fan or don't know what I'm talking about. You have no idea just how bad things had gotten amongst the team leading up to the Sugar Bowl since Tua was already outshining Jalen everyday in practice but Coach Saban refused to play him in the meaningful games last year for whatever reason, despite having already burned his red shirt anyway.

His response to these questions shouldn't surprise anyone, especially when he's been asked this same question every day dating back to the post-game press conference of the national championship game. So Finebaum can take his faux outrage and shove it. He's been on the receiving end of several of Saban's fiery rants. He should be the least surprised of any in the media. Ok, I see a lot of the comments saying, "he's tired of the question about who his starter is" and that tells me you guys AREN'T listening. She didn't ask who the starter was going to be. She referenced that people were asking that question before the game, but she asked what answers did he have about his 2 QB's after watching them play. He could have said "Tua played well but needs to work on ball security a little more in the pocket" (like he said in the press conference after the game) and "Jalen also played well but needs to tidy up on his reads and accuracy". Those type of answers would definitely satisfy the question WITHOUT invoking anything about who was the starter. I love Bama and Nick is my guy, but Nick was out of line for that response. Maybe he didn't like the way Jalen played and felt the reporter was trying to get him to say something negative about Jalen. That's his issue, not the reporter's. She has a job to do. He maybe tired of the question but that does not give him the right to snap like he did. He owes her an apology. He maybe a great coach but he still is obligated as a decent man not to be rude. Roll Tide Roll

If you are a reporter that deal with coaches, you should be prepared to ask the tough questions and deal with the response. Stop shielding reporters. Media keeps pushing their agenda, some times passionate coaches are going to defend their team and organization.

ESPN is an emotional network , I thought Nick handled that well because he’s tired of the damn question and he let it be known. He didn’t berate or disrespect the reporter at all.

I get why he’s upset, but the reporter is asking a question that will keep being asked. He created this.

ESPN wouldn't have given a damn about this if it wasn't one of their own reporters. They're making the story about themselves, as they always do.

Finebaum just mad because Coach Saban still got hair on his head.😂😂😂 Maria Taylor was crying out to Coach Saban when she said, "I hear yah," and finally got the response she wanted to cut out all QB questions from here on out! MariaTaylor is the real MVP!

It kind of clarifies why he didn't last very long in the NFL. when he was head coach of the Dolphins he frequently lashed out at the media when asked very tough questions. Seeing it all over again here.

If you don’t like the way Coach answers your questions, go report on other teams! Simple as that. There are plenty of other reporters that can do the job.

Maria , you should have told him just answer the question coach, it's a valid football question. I think an apology is in order. Even if the question is annoying Saban should have answered the question as professional as possible because Maria Taylor was with him.

She hit him with the "I hear you" lol I'm sure Maria didn't take it personal. Nick is just tired of hearing the question.

He's the best coach in college football. It's no surprise that he will go to bat for both his players. The media will do anything hype up one quarterback while discrediting the other. Coach Saban is not having it at all!

WTH would he tell anyone who he was starting and let the opposing team know who to plan for ??? He’s said both QB’s are playing, done, question answered so stop asking!

He doesnt owe you reporters any answers. You arent in any way benefitting his program, you are giving the opposing team an edge if he would give a definitive answer. Amd why would saban start any drama in the locker room. Soft. Espn is soft

Mack Brown defense is no surprise. If that’s what Nick Saban is doing then he can say that. He doesn’t have to disrespect a reporter in order to support his player.

Saban is not obligated to talk to the media... He doesn't have to name a starter either. Its his team, if you don't like his response, tough shit.

How is that dude seriously gonna say "Saban created this situation". He doesn't owe the media ANYTHING about how he runs his team. He can do what he wants and just because you want to know doesn't mean he must tell you. God I hate the media

Listen, I get it. You get tired of hearing it but really? This is their job. You are a coach you have a job and this is apart of it. You signed up for it buddy. Do not humiliate somebody else doing their job. She’s a great one and always does her job and does it great. One of the sweetest nicest reporters out there if not the best. If it wasn’t for this media you wouldn’t have ANY interviews nor spotlight no matter how good you do! So, this comes with your job. Deal with it.

Number 1 he’s tired of the same question.
Number 2 he’s pissed for the undisciplined way the guys played.
    That’s what set him off.
