The same thing happened to all my door handles on my 2004 for no apparent reason after some time. I ended up just super gluing the sharp edges back to the handles.
I have not had to replace that cable but I believe it would be easier to replace the entire assembly. I may do it in the future as my locking mechanism on the front drivers door does not always fully engage when I use the remote which forces me to go back to the car and manually lock it. It has been behaving lately but I know these things don't "heal". When it goes I will shoot a video for it. I may just replace it anyway as my OCD will force me to fix it before it fails. LOL see how that works? Thanks and all the best.
I am sure the 05 Sonata door comes off in a similar fashion. I did the same procedure on the 2011 Sonata here is the link for that th-cam.com/video/FNSTeVYjjFo/w-d-xo.html and it is very similar. Good luck and all the best.
Car door cards unless you`ve got the manual, or a video like this can be trial and error, and a broken part, lucky there was no air bag to deal with, the moisture on a persons hand must have reacted with the chrome.
+bmwnasher You know it. I am going to also change the power lock mechanism as it is a little weak and doesn't always actuate properly. Though it is not too critical it could be a safety concern in the future if it fails completely. The chrome on the handle was pretty thick (.5 mm or more) and aside from looking unsightly it was also jagged and sharp enough to cut so I had to change it. It has been working well since I replaced it. I am currently changing the valve cover gasket on the Hyundai Accent. I am quite impressed with the 1.5 Liter engine in that car. Simple, very reliable and extremely easy and cheap to service. Thanks again.
Excellent video in great details. Thank you. God bless!
