Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me around
I feel numb, burn with a weak heart
Guess I must be having fun
The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground, head in the sky
It's okay, I know nothing's wrong, nothing
I got plenty of time
You got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money, always for love
Cover up and say goodnight, say goodnight
Home, is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from the other
I find you, or you find me?
There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be, where I'll be
We drift in and out
Sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
And share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead
Eyes that light up
Eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head - บันเทิง
This is my favorite heads song. This was mine and my beautiful wife for 40 years song. Every word in this song hits the heart. My wife died last year and the words are so true.
That's a really beautiful story. Music is the theme of our lives. I'm sorry for your loss.
Yes it a wonderful song and love the different versions as the one live in jools Holland especially
Sorry for your loss. I had a loss much like that, perhaps worse. If she had died, it would have been better. I would have had closure. But the way she chose it, I had neither. At least she died while still loving you.
Im sorry for your loss but glad you have that connection to such a great tune.
There’s something in this song, something you don’t understand, but can’t get enough of it. i call it perfection.
This is the song your puppy sings to you.
thats art
get over yourself.
This is a perfect song
101 like
Am I crazy or is this the best song ever written?
It's sheer genius
then I must be crazy too, because I feel the same way
Sanity is seeing the importance of these words..
This movie hit me in my gut.. I had to watch the movie this was cut from twice right off.. ten times since..
Brilliant.
You are not crazy. I was thinking the exact same thing. Right before LCD Soundsystem Dance Yrself Clean..
yesssss
Hi Bob, my beautiful wife of 35 years went for a "routine surgery" and was rendered without speech or mobility due to admitted medical negligence. I am now her sole carer and although it is hard, I know that this still is the place. God bless you. Kevin xxx
I thank the parents of David Byrne for letting him be himself as a child and for the encouragement they gave him.
The song is totally built by the rhythm section, Chris and Tina.
Yes,he is courageous for being himself! Extremely Admirable! ❤😌
David Byrne on this song:
"That's a love song made up almost completely of non sequiturs, phrases that may have a strong emotional resonance but don't have any narrative qualities. It's a real honest kind of love song. I don't think I've ever done a real love song before. Mine always had a sort of reservation, or a twist. I tried to write one that wasn't corny, that didn't sound stupid or lame the way many do"
It's one of the most honest love songs I've ever heard. It feels like real love.
Thank you for posting this, it’s the first time I’ve read David’s opinion/interpretation of the lyrics and I’m glad he wasn’t being ironically negative about love and relationships. I’ve always believed this song perfectly encapsulates the crests and troughs of love and life, and how it can sometimes be so hard but ultimately it’s worth the fight because the good far outweighs the bad. It’s a beautiful song and I’m glad he meant it as so.
A completely unpretentious love song. It's beautiful.
fucking strange reply. like this song or the kid singing it in the movie! i like the song.
@Donald Peat Transcribed from Byrne's "Self Interview" extra feature on the DVD of the Talking Heads concert film "Stop Making Sense".
What an absolutely perfect song. Anytime I remember this song exists I have to play it immediately and it always feels timeless
My favourite song of all time.
Applicable to any event or milestone in life.
Could be foreshadowing the happiest of beginnings.
Or the saddest of endings.
Truly genius.
This s da rite place
Legend
You have impeccable taste then my friend! Totally Agree!!
Possibly the most beautiful David Byrne and the Talking Heads song.
Agreed. My holy trinity of TH songs is this, Nothing But Flowers, and Road to Nowhere (OK, add Girlfriend is Better and a bunch more too), but this is the music of the spheres. Some of String Cheese's versions are transcendental and now they are doing Nothing too. Life can be such a blessing...
Richard Bruce you damn straight gangster
charlesveg you too gangster brah
@@stickykitty what's with this gangster nonsense, have you watched the mans performance on later with Jools Holand. out standing. those strings really come to life and the man's movement is just as mad as he ever was, or is that just the same as it ever was.
michael gwyn davies I see what you did there!
Gangster 😝
The notes are whimsy...the words are full of the anxiety and bliss that envelopes the soul when love finds you...they swirl together in a dance that makes you want to cry. Sublime.
Well put ! I'm 😂 now ! Why I don't really know
Poetically well said,,,💕👌
You, are a poet
I'm not crying, my eyeballs are sweating.
Amen.😊
Always emotionally well when he sings "love me till my heart stops, love me till I'm dead"
David Byrne is one of the finest groundbreaking original musicians of the last 50 years. He's humble magnificent and ever changing. He's the American Bowie. And god do I love him.❤
Do you know someone named Brittany?
He's Scottish no
@@gideonrubyai1 Yeah, he's from Scotland
Bowie wishes he had half the talent Byrne has. Not even in the same league
David Bowie is dead and did quite well for himself.
My wife and I were lucky enough to be at this Filming in Detroit. It was filmed and recorded live.
Hey, what year did you see this show?
I was an actor in this part of the movie😉 the more we had to rehearsed I liked simply because the music was so enjoyable
How many times did they not clear that floating piece of the stage during rehearsals? Lol
What movie?
@@andrewbartlett269 "This must be the place" starring Sean Penn, 2011
My daughter and I were extras in this scene. Filmed at The Magic Bag in Ferndale, Michigan. I lost count of how many takes, but we were there for over 6 hours, so somewhere around 30 takes...
She isn't visible in the scene, which made her mad... " I listened to that stupid song and danced around like I was enjoying it for nothing! 😡" No Sweetie, you did that for $8 an hour, and a free sandwich, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.
Thanks for sharing this!
Just can't hear this song enough....it drives me crazy!
I feel you mate
Every time I listen, I get an unnatural compulsion to stay up for numerous days straight fuelled only by coffee, making industrial quantities of Kimchi... Hauntingly beautiful...
David Byrne is a musical Genius!
Loved the way the crowd got in on the vocals. What I'd give to spend just a minute... There.
I saw Talking Heads in 1983...the Speaking in Tongues Tour that became "Stop Making Sense". To this day...and I have seen alot of live music since then...it's one of the greatest concerts that I have ever been to.
I was in the crowd as a extra when they filmed this. Honestly, I had no idea Sean Penn was in the crowd as well. It was a long day if take after take after take. Fun regardless of who was there :)
Their songs were the best songs for 80s film's soundtrack, especially the ending credits of a action/adventure film. Their songs were really good wrap up songs to make the film feel like it'll go on forever and makes you wanna rewatch it.
What is this???? I have never seen this video before. Seriously I have been playing this song/ melody for more than 20 years. The simple, naive melody is exactly the internal pulse I feel in my body. I believe we all have an internal rhythm and this song IS MINE. It is my background music, my ear worm, my answering machine background music. and my comfortable place.
This scene features in the film "This must be the place" starring Sean Penn. There's an extended version of the film on the blu ray which features an even longer version of this scene. I found this to be the best scene in the film.
It's from the movie This Must Be The Place by Paolo Sorrentino.
yeah i bounce around a lot..but every time ..i mean every time i end the night with this soo i guess i must be having fun ..and i guess this is my favorite song
Beautiful words! I feel the same way about this song! I even have dreams with it, like the soundtrack of my mind, I hope to feel the same 20 years later just like you! Im on my twenties, so yey!!
Janet Greenwell 🎶🎵OOoohh you got plenty of time.🎼 Home is where I want to be so I guess I'm already there. 👍😀
Just pure awesomeness and joy of love. David Byrne one of the greatest musical prophets of our times. Huge fan since the first time his music hit me like a ton of bricks back in 1980. 🙏❤️💯😇 🎼

This song sounds damn amazing with the strings
Still a great performer, but nothing will beat the on-stage sound, energy, synergy/chemistry that the Heads had.
David is a genius. No matter how many times I watch him, I'm never let down.
Sean nailed this role... I played the Building Organ in David's installation - it was a moment I'll never forget.
One of the best Bands ever.. its songs are timeless.. and still will be playing in the future.
This song wasn't my favorite as a kid. I thought it was so sweet, sickly so. So mellow and kind in tone; even though I knew the words I didn't know what they meant. When I got older, when I experienced a little bit of heartbreak and love, oh... Oh God when I heard it again I wept. My initial impression was true, but there's just a mix of sadness, of disappointment and resignation mixed in there. A divine heaven or a miserable outcome, a genuine yet unexpected connection that may or may not be permenant. It all hit me and I cried like a child, it became my favorite.
This moment in this film captures that perfectly. The stage, the performance, even the crowd getting into the beat and singing along. And then right in the back is the musician, someone who not only hears the lyrics but understands their meaning, and he's crying. This film is heartbreaking but so very good.
“Nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first understood.” ― Leonardo da Vinci.
I have deeply loved a woman and after 35 years have absolute no understand of her what so ever!
the genius of david byrne and the talking heads can never be disputed. one of the most beautiful, and innovative, collection of musical world-changers.
They told David when he first showed interest in music he would just didn't have a good singing voice.
He said ok and became a national treasure.
full body goose bumps. Had never heard this ver. I almost cried. Life was soooo good then in my youth
so beautiful - never for money, always for love I feel 17 again.
Lesley Cooomer ❤❤❤
My favourite line in this Beautiful song.
I love the audience vocals at the end. Makes me keep coming back to this version
Great Song and great overall direction of this performance. David Byrne's creativity has definitely not stopped after Stop Making Sense. Amazing stuff!
Tears flowing down my cheeks watching this after one year of Covid-19 lockdown; feeling just how much I miss the joy and happiness of being part of a crowd watching a band you love 😢❤️
What a marvellous scene, the ph composition is amazing combined with such a piece of art like this song!!
Talking Heads/David Byrne. I’ve not heard this song before. I’m really enjoying listening to this music. A very talented group.
Lyrics are great too.
One of many classics i heard it first with the Tom Tom club &David Byrne stop maken sense BRILLANT artist 💨💨💨🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A good find for you then..
I love this song!
I’m from Baltimore, David Byrne’s hometown, and somehow never heard this one until I found MGMT singing this early at their college (one of my favorite videos!). I’m thinking of this for my mother/groom dance! Love this orchestral version so much!
Speachless. Would not expect anything less from David.
Kelvin Wilson right!?
This song is a total masterpiece. ❤
The people in the audience just don't know how lucky they are.🥰
I agree! The best show I ever saw was David Byrne in the early 90s... so damn good that it still aches to remember.
My favourite song! And I'm liking this orchestral version
What orchestra? There’s just a few violins and a cello
@@devilruski my sincere apologies... Smart arse!
The strings are a nice touch. "You have a face with a view". Goodnight David!
The closest warm feeling to love you'll ever feel
I wish I could have been an extra in that audience. This is one of the sweetest performances of this song I've ever seen. Love hearing everyone sing along.
Bit scary if you saw Sean Penn, though....
Saw the great man twice last year Manchester and Nottingham on his American utopia tour and he is still simply the best I've ever seen or heard
Byrne’s artistic soul is similar to Peter Gabriel’s…it’s beyond the music...it's much deeper & much wider...
@jim hutchison To what?
I was so disappointed when David decided to stop singing. And with the endless sea of whatever people call music today. I'm so happy see his videos again.
Brunette violinist to David's right her side to side and head nod dance moves are hypnotic :)
DAVID B. AND THEN HEADS, MY PEEPS! LORD KNOWS THEY SHOULD COME BACK. AMEN🦄🦁🖤
THANK YOU, WHO EVER YOU ARE IN THE TRUTH. GOD BLESS👊🖤👏
Smoked it...plain smoked it... One of the greatest groups evah!
So awesome. Love the opening. And David Byrne looks fantastic. The Talking Heads is still one of my favorite bands.
David Byrne is my spirit animal always.
Love this song!!! Great lyrics, amazing melody, just perfect... has been stuck in my head for last 3 days...

I’ll be playing this at my wedding...:)
@@kabayantayo I would do the same but I don't even have a girlfriend. 🤷🏿♂️
@@kabayantayo congratulations by the way.
This is amazing. My favorite TH song ever and I’ve never seen this performance before. So grateful! 😭😭😭😭😭
This is my ‘Heads’ love song… my family. This is my family’s official national anthem. Whenever we’re together nothing is better. We played this song every day growing up. When we hear the song we stop, call each other. Tell everyone that ‘home’ is where I want to be… where I want to be!
Man this takes me back. Nothing like a musical time machine. Thank you DB. Bless you.
From a cinematography standpoint that is so cool.
directed by paolo sorrentino ;)
What a beautiful film. Sean Penn. Francis McDormand, and a killer secondary cast. See it. THIS MUST BE THE PLACE.
Ab Fab! Thank you Kilgore Trout. I think if David Byrne were the President, the world would be a much better place... Bless Talking Heads
My partner,THE, Love of my life died recently,(NOT of covid, but through the cost, covid has caused to EVERY one else who has been ill this last 12 months... I love you babe.. This is for June.)... First time in my life I've REALLY HOPED... There IS some sort of Heaven..? And this is playing....
I lost my dad last July and I felt that there's got to be some sort of heaven because there is no way this is it.
This song is in my head now. Love the video! The floating stage! How cool.
When I first heard Talking Heads in 1980 it blew me away with what they were doing , it made me become a massive David Byrne fan just so different to everything else that’s out there I swear he’s David Bowie’s brother
I'am laughing because it#s true
Thank You...I have worked retail work for years, this song . saved my life....cried, laughed, and done it all over,,,healing music.
This song has made me so happy and made me look at the sad times as nothing more as memory. I hope this finds you. It gets better.
There is something so simple, yet so awsome about the girl in the 60's clothes tapping her feet and coming up over the audience. I bet the person who suggested it got a lot of, "that's it? She just taps and swings forward? Thats not that impressive". But the visual is so much more than the sum of its parts
While reading Pop Sci!
@@MomentousGaming This clip is from a Sorrentino's movie and she is not, but really looks like his wife. I think he wanted to dedicate this song to her.
She’s happy to be at Home
I want those boots!!!
most correntino films has scene like this
This is just Amazing, I've had this on a CD and never realized till I started, looking and listening again, sometimes you miss even the best, don't get in that damn big hurry you will be sorry!
I'm so sad I lived a half of a century before I discovered this song!
This sort of music is the genesis of pure genius! David Byrne is a legend!!
I cannot describe how much I love this song, David, & the movie. All I can say is thank you so much for making it available for me to watch/listen on TH-cam x
Talking heads are,for me,one of the best bend's ever,i listen them almost all my life....love them...
Everyone singing together at the end is making me emotional 😅 ohh the power of music
Makes me feel so good, just get that fuzzy feeling when David does his stuff.
Always enjoy the trip his music takes us on ... and the videos.
Maybe the most beautiful thing I ever saw!
+Patrick Faulkner you may well be right !!
Patrick Faulkner right!?!?
Patrick Faulkner Sean Penn Sissorhand is beautiful
Thank you Mr Trout! This is a Beautiful video!❤
What a song! Song writing at it's best! Well done mister byrne 👍👍
This is one of the coolest videos ever!!!
Mike R right!?!?
one of my fav movie tracks , brilliantly done, and both blend in so well, film was amazing, and the song complements the film so much, one of my fav tracks, after watching the film , I get it x
+Jane Currie What was the film?
Cheyenne - This must be the Place
"Wall Street" made this song grow in popularity over the years. This was a pretty obscure tune when released in 80s. In turn, this song always brings to mind "Wall Street" for me. The placement of song at movies end rolling into credits was genius, with Charlie walking off into rainy Central Park uncertain future....
+Baritone45 "Wall Street," with Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, and a then famous Daryl Hannah (Splash). It's at the very end of movie and into rolling film credits.
+KnoxTN Yankee never watched that film. still found this song. I wouldn't credit that film for this songs popularity, not at all.
I'm so glad we still have David.
I always come back to THIS video of THIS song. I listen to it and it makes me excited to get married, excited to grow old and just be happy for today because wow this is a piece of heaven on earth.
Four and half minutes of sheer joy.
idk how many versions of this song i've listened to and i just cant get enough. i guess i MUST BE HAVING FUN!
I have loved this song ever since I was in my twenties. I love the beat and it always makes me feel good.
Never fails to deliver.
Just realized, I got a warm spot in my heart for this guy's music, and I grew up with his music. Guess I never took how really genius and original he really is.... and there was something else too.... His music seems to be engaging, and leaves me feeling jazzed and upbeat!
So awesome to hear that melody on strings!
An Absolutely beautifully crafted song, David is still one of the very very best at his craft
Pure and beautiful melody. Perfection.
the creativity, I can't stand it. I can't, it makes my head explode. i listened to it like 20 times. If I were driving and heard this on the radio I would pull off to the side of the road and dance.
This perfect scene
Made me cry (again) :) Will be one of my favourite movies of all time!
this makes me smile ... always ... thx
Me too, even when I'm feeling down. To me, this song is a reminder that "Time marches on..."
So many elements to this track... drums...vocals....strings...backing vocals....xylophone...bass...keys.... foot tapping... = beautiful flow.
