I watched this one and a bunch of other videos for replacing the fill valve and toilet handle before attempting it myself Thanks to these videos I was able to do it easily myself using a fFuidmaster 400 A universal and a bendable universal lever. both of which work very well in my Kohlerr toilet. If I can do it, anybody can. Thank you so much for this video! It’s a pretty cut a dry process, but wiping around where the seal goes and knowing where that clip went helped me a ton! Appreciate you walking me through it! Now my toilet is filling quick and effortless!
Thank you for the easy to understand, step by step video on how to do this! I felt uneasy and have had the replacement fill valve for 3 weeks. I’m ready now! 😊
Thanks for this excellent instruction. I didn't have any trouble installing a new fill valve, but getting the lug off of the old valve took an hour because it was stuck good and the water valve was in difficult area to access.
I'm having that same problem. My toilet is way close to the corner and I have huge hands. So its already in a horrible spot and to top it that lug just won't give.
Thank you for making this video. I was about to give up after viewing other vids. Yours made the process simple. I changed my first fill valve and am super proud. Keep up the good work!
Hi Dennis, You did a nice job with this how-to video. One thing I'd add is that, before locking it in place, you want to adjust the fill valve by loosening the lock ring and turning the lower shank accordingly, so that the top of the fill valve is 3" above the overflow pipe. This will automatically put the C.L. (Critical Level) mark on the fill valve 1" above the top of the overflow pipe. This is so that the "Universal Plumbing Code" is met. Ideally, you want to adjust the Float Cup with the fine-tune screw so that the water level reaches approximately 1/2" below the top of the overflow pipe, after flushing. Lastly, I would recommend purchasing a kit that includes the flapper valve as well, as this only add a few dollars to the cost, and then both pieces of hardware are replaced together.
I was quoted $125 a month ago so I refused and stopped using the toilet. I already have this replacement (from amazon) and it’s been sitting there. I will make an attempt this weekend. Hoping it works for me as well.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for this video! Just curious, why toilet fill valve would stop working, and what's the average lifespan of a typical Fluidmaster 400A fill valve? Thanks!
Thank you so much for your video.!! It really helped us to change our valve without having to call anyone and that saved some money. Keep up the good work.!!
Thank you sir, so much for this tutorial. As a single/divorced woman, there are some things I now have to do alone and I don't want to always have to call someone in and pay extra for what I could possibly do myself. 🙏🏼😊
Very very helpful! I don't know of ANY plumber coming to your house for under $200-! And that's just to show up at your door! Any parts cost more and they charge for every 10min they are there starting from $200!
Thanks! I got a quote of $150, and that’s only labor! I bought the valve already. Yikes. Hoping to do it myself, but for an old lady with no experience with repairs like this I’m a bit nervous.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!! Your video was the BEST one. Very informative, straight to the point* and I like how you explained how I could measure the water level (grey screw thingy lol) I watched about 12 videos and yours was the best. Saved me $399. Crazy out here.
@@theguyofalltrades That’s awesome. Thank you. I noticed that the tank won’t take full. It drops a little and the water runs to replace it. I don’t what happens. The vale is working fine tho . 😮
Thank you for this video! I was able to successfully fix my toilet bc of your instructions and links. The dumb nut was the hardest part to get off haha.
Thanks so much for this! The great thing is that I was able to replace our old fill valve easily, no prob. The bummer is that I realized that I probably could also have repaired the other toilet we replaced two months ago. Oh well - lesson learned!
Great video. My tank fills very slowly. Water is a strong steady stream into the overflow. Is there a problem with putting the water going into overflow, into tank ? It seems to work great when I do that.
Depends on your water pressure or if the fill valve has gunk in it. There is a little plastic filter built into the bottom of the valve where you connect the water. Sometimes sediment gets in there. They put that there to prevent that sediment from getting into the valve itself. You can remove the hose and normally pop out and clean that filter. On the fluid master valves that I’ve replaced anyways
@@theguyofalltrades Thanks, I'll try that. My pressure is strong coming out the overflow tube. Toilet fills or shuts off in 65 seconds with it not in overflow tube. I have pulled the top cap of the fill valve and sprayed water into a cup and then looked at rubber seal on top and that looks good. Of course replacing this seems pretty straight forward.
Great video man thank you so much.. I happen to have the exact same toilet valve filler.. I just got it from Amazon and I couldn't figure out how to put it on so I clicked on your video and I got lucky..
@@theguyofalltrades any way to change out the head without shutting the water off? I know I'm dreaming. lol The 1/4 turn is about 10 years old and stuck in the "on" position. I plan to heavily lube it. Any tricks of the trade on that is greatly appreciated. I'm a petite female and like to tinker around the apartment. :) Thank you!
@@arizonarebel5706 Probably not without shutting water out because it will make a mess. You can try pb blaster which is a lubricant that frees rusted hardware. That works miracles sometimes
thank you for the video...I felt very nervous doing this but after watching the video a few times..I was able to replace the float valve..no problem...thanks!!
Thank you for sharing this. Quick question, if I do not have to replace the bottom hose, then do I have to disconnect the hose from the shut-off valve?
My problem is the water keep draining that makes the tank imposible to fillup, it was draining from the rubber valve where the water flashes, any tips?
Me and my Dad just did this, and we're NOT handy at all! Yesterday we changed rusted toilet bolts, I wonder how much money we saved! Thanks so much for your videos!!😊
Hello there, awesome video! Would you be able to help me figure out what type of flush lever you have there? I need that specific one. Please if you can help, thanks!
This video was a great find. My fill valve is dripping just like the one in the video and taking forever to fill the tank. Just order the parts to replace. Thanks
Thank you for this! I just figured out that the fill valve in my main toilet is on its way out, and I'm trying to be proactive about replacing it. Replacement is on its way and my tools are always ready. Just needed to know what to do!
What a great diy video that was easily explained so that someone like me could do it instead of hiring some plumber who would have charged anywhere from 100-200 dollars.
Omg this video is great, working on my mom's toilet that must be older than this one bc they didn't use a tube to connect the water valve and the grey plastic piece they used to connect the two is shredded and won't turn 😢 it just spins so I'm going to have to cut that to free up the white one above it 🥵thanks for the video and now I know how they screwed. It up but how to fix it😊
Welcome and glad I could help. Yeah I’ve seen both metal and plastic supply lines instead of the braided hose. I prefer the hose because it’s easier to connect and you don’t have to trim it.
I appreciate your tips and guidance! Both myself and my 85 year old Mother send thanks and Blessings for making it easy for me to fix. First time ever with NO problems and NO plumber needed. You are amazing!
Our old toilet does not have the flexible water supply line shown in this video. It is a hard metal line that goes straight up to the toilet. How hard will it be to take it off since it is does not bend?

Hi Dennis,
You did a nice job with this how-to video.
I have a newer video that actually goes over all those steps but thanks for pointing out
No plumber is showing up for $50 - $100 near me! This video is saving people $200 easy in my neighborhood.

I got a quote of $150, and that’s only labor! I bought the valve already. Yikes. Hoping to do it myself, but for an old lady with no experience with repairs like this I’m a bit nervous.
You got this! Any questions you may have just ask and I’ll help
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!! Your video was the BEST one. Very informative, straight to the point* and I like how you explained how I could measure the water level (grey screw thingy lol) I watched about 12 videos and yours was the best. Saved me $399. Crazy out here.
Welcome! If you have any issue with the flapper valve I have a separate video that shows how to adjust or replace also
@@theguyofalltrades That’s awesome.
Yup always the case. Lol. Welcome
Just followed these steps successfully! Thank you for the video
Very welcome!
Perfect my daughter's toilet valve just broke.Just got part at Lowe's, watched your video and fixed in 10 minutes
Awesome! Glad I could help
Thanks so much for this! The great thing is that I was able to replace our old fill valve easily, no prob. The bummer is that I realized that I probably could also have repaired the other toilet we replaced two months ago. Oh well - lesson learned!
Welcome! Thanks for watching
THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUY OF ALL TRADE, FOR THE EXCELLENT WAY TO INSTALL A FILL VALVE! AND SHOWING QUICH & EASY WAY. IT'S SO HELPFUL!
Welcome!
I was thinking of calling a plumber but thank God I didn’t and that I found this video. I spend $18 and didn’t myself. Thank you and God bless you 🙏🏽
Welcome. Glad I could help
That was my next piece of advice was to take apart the valve top
Great video man thank you so much.. I happen to have the exact same toilet valve filler.. I just got it from Amazon and I couldn't figure out how to put it on so I clicked on your video and I got lucky..
Welcome! Glad I could help
THANK YOU! for showing how to set the fill line level.
Welcome
Any good reasons why you shouldn't leave the base of the fill valve and only swap out the part with the float cup?
I mean if you can get the same exact model it would be easy to change out the head on it. This one was a bit old so I opted for full replacement
Excellent video. Thank u very much guy. U take very clear shots of what ur doing and its super helpful
Thanks for watching!
Nice job can you adjust the fill vale height when it’s in the toilet thanks
Thanks for watching. Yes if you can fit your hand down around the bottom of the assembly you can pop the ring off slightly and raise the level.
thank you for the video...I felt very nervous doing this but after watching the video a few times..I was able to replace the float valve..no problem...thanks!!
Welcome! Glad I could help. Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing this. Quick question, if I do not have to replace the bottom hose, then do I have to disconnect the hose from the shut-off valve?
Nope shouldn’t have to remove it
My problem is the water keep draining that makes the tank imposible to fillup, it was draining from the rubber valve where the water flashes, any tips?
Is the flapper worn or chain too tight to the flapper?
It took me a little longer than 10 minutes but I did it! Thanks!
Welcome! Saved yourself $150. That seems to be the average plumbers are charging
Thanks helped me with my toilet problems saved allot of money doing it myself 💯
Welcome!
Thank you so much!! So easy to understand and follow! You are sincerely appreciated!!
Very welcome
Me and my Dad just did this, and we're NOT handy at all! Yesterday we changed rusted toilet bolts, I wonder how much money we saved! Thanks so much for your videos!!😊
Welcome. Definitely saved a bit. This valve is a 150$ job all day from a plumber
Thank you so much for the video, super easy to follow instructions, took about 10 minutes
Welcome. I have two new ones coming out soon. That was one of my first videos and the quality wasn’t the greatest
Hello there, awesome video!
Would you be able to help me figure out what type of flush lever you have there? I need that specific one. Please if you can help, thanks!
Home Depot and Lowe’s have a ton of replacements if you need just the handle. This was a kohler toilet.
@@theguyofalltrades thank you!
This video was so good even I was able to replace the part ..thank you !!!
Very welcome!
This video was a great find. My fill valve is dripping just like the one in the video and taking forever to fill the tank. Just order the parts to replace. Thanks
Glad I could help!
you explain everything better than the other videos
Thank you! It’s a balance keeping the content detailed but short enough where it’s not boring lol
Thank you for this! I just figured out that the fill valve in my main toilet is on its way out, and I'm trying to be proactive about replacing it. Replacement is on its way and my tools are always ready. Just needed to know what to do!
Welcome! Good luck and thanks for watching!
What a great diy video that was easily explained so that someone like me could do it instead of hiring some plumber who would have charged anywhere from 100-200 dollars.
Thanks for the kind words
I just replaced my toilet fill valve on my Eljer toilet. It only cost me $15.98 at Lowe's. Thanks for video.
Welcome!
It up but how to fix it😊
Sorry I cut out that they put a straight skinny metal pipe instead or a hose on this thing 😅
Welcome and glad I could help. Yeah I’ve seen both metal and plastic supply lines instead of the braided hose. I prefer the hose because it’s easier to connect and you don’t have to trim it.
Thanks!
I appreciate your tips and guidance! Both myself and my 85 year old Mother send thanks and Blessings for making it easy for me to fix. First time ever with NO problems and NO plumber needed. You are amazing!
Thank you so much. You are so kind. Glad you were able to repair using my video!
Good tips on how to replace toilet water tank valve filler, good video THANKS!!!👍🏻👋🏻
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great and easy to follow video! Saved us a plumber visit and some money!!
Welcome!
Thanks for the tutorial.......very help. I feel confident enough to do it myselt
Welcome and Good luck!
Thank you...was scared till you made it easy..
Welcome. Glad I could help
Hey Dennis, Thanks so much for the video. You made it so simple.
You’re very welcome. If you have any questions about replacing the flapper or adjusting it I also have a couple other videos that show it in detail
Our old toilet does not have the flexible water supply line shown in this video. It is a hard metal line that goes straight up to the toilet. How hard will it be to take it off since it is does not bend?
You can just loosen the fill valve then the nut on that hard line and lift the valve off of it. Then change to a flex line if you want
In Loo of Doing ones Duty to replace the fill value, it will Take a Load off my busy schedule
at the Cannery over at the Porcelain Throne headquarters. Thanks for the great video and Doing your Business, ha.ha.
🤣 cheerio good sir
This was so helpful and easy to follow along with! Thank you!
Welcome. I have another video that shows in detail how to replace the flapper valve and adjust if you need it.
Much love my boy you just saved me $150 bucks
Thanks for watching and glad I could help.!
Thank you soo much for this video! This was my first time doing something like this and I was a bit nervous. But it turned out great! I just had a small glitch but I conquered it!! Thanks Again!!
You’re very welcome! Glad I could help out
