- Wild Country 'Crack School' is a series of six short videos designed to utilise the skills and knowledge of Wild Country climbers Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker to give an introduction to basics of crack climbing. Over six episodes the guys cover all widths of crack: Fingers, Hands, Fists and Offwidths as well as looking at the skills of gear placement and taping up.
Designed for those who know next to nothing about crack climbing and who want to make their first steps, the videos are made to illustrate what the guys think are the most pertinent points for starting out on each size of crack. They look at how to use hands and feet in the crack as well as gear and overall tips on technique and the way to approach each type of crack.
This video is all about fist jamming.
I don't know why, but when I tried a fist sized crack, the feet were the hardest part. Its counterintuitive, but the lack of twisting, almost flat foot put extra pain on the foot. My feet are on the wide side, so they are probably like "fuck this, I'm not a bridge" and collapse.
This reminds me of the punk band Bloody Knuckles and their hit Fist It!
That's weird. Fist jams were the first jam that I managed to get a hang of. Mostly because the other ones are just so painful. Fist jams are *fine*.. or at least less painful
should add toes down helps with feet. you do it but don't say it. i had to figure it out on my own. was hurting my knee on toes parallel or up in crack.
I tryed this indoor in ONE session a couple of times, and there is this little protrution at the base of your hand at the pinky side it Hurt for a good 2-3 months..
i always found fist cracks to be more comfortable than handjams
