There is absolutely no consequence to lying under oath in the US. Just remember if you ever find yourself in the hot seat just turn on the selective amnesia, say things like “as far as I can remember” or “it was a joke”. Any consequences will slide right off your shoulders.
They have immunity when appearing before these committees. That is the root of the problem.
