    i used muslin bags afixed to a piece of stiff wire and weighted with a small stone placed inside my toilet tank. everytime you flush, the seed will get a fresh batch of water. nice for stratifying multiple species via cold water. muslin bags are cheap and available in a craft store or a set of your old lady's panty hose will also work. good luck and great vid!

    Snow sowing, or "Frost Seeding"as it's more generally called, is a phenomenal method of planting a lot of different seeds. I am not a fan of sowing on top of snow for a few reasons, 1 it is like a flashing fast food sign to birds sitting on top of snow, second if you get a really quick melt in the spring it can completely destroy any plans you had about where those seeds are intended to root. Personally I've had my best luck in very late winter, or very early spring, where you know you have several more hard frosts to help work those seeds down and get good seed soil contact, it still has a month or so to prepare the seed to germinate, then it will germinate at the earliest possible time and get a big headstart on weed competition, be down in that soil bed to defeat most bird predation, and guess what... It's sooo easy! Depending on what you are planning, if it's something that can be frost seeded, that's the ONLY way I would ever seed it. It's like seed abuse not too! Just my 2 cents

    I got Alpine strawberries and the packet did not say. So as a first time gardener I’m a bit annoyed and now behind. My other seeds are loving my extra bedroom closet with lights and a fan. But I really want to get this cute strawberry plant going at least so the plant can focus on getting strong for next summer. I live in a pretty good growing zone for a wide variety of fruits and veggies. I can still hope. 🤞🏼😅

    people do NOT use a produce bag in any part of the germination process. They could harbor pests or bacteria from the produce. I put them around a dish sponge for a scrubbie. Seeds are really sensitive to contamination like little babies.

    I dislike those pellets because the outer coating doesn't break down so well in the garden but yeah that looks great. Perhaps I might do baggies because I have a bunch.
    I've heard 2 weeks, one week and a month. Just moved to a new location on the Oregon coast so I'm starting all over. I have a bunch of perennial medicinal plant seeds. It's mid February and want to be able to plant them this season. What's the shortest amount of time? Am I too late?

    enjoyed the video. I have some Black Eyed Susan seeds that I decided to try to stratify. to increase my chance of success I'm using two methods. the paper towel in the fridge is done. I also want to place some outside but I'm concerned because the temp is supposed to get up to the 50's this week, with nights as low as the teens. will this work or am I to late? ty for your guidance. 🙂

    Which way is best please for rose trees of China? I live near Niagara Falls Ontario Canada and it starts to cool down in October. As for snow we don't get hardly any anymore but it does get cold. I want these for my deck and around here we normally plant around the 3rd week to last week of May. How long do they stay in the fridge for taking that into account? I have never done this before so I need the best advice as possible. I don't have a green thumb like my parents had. Lol.

      Dendi Handian if you’re a northerner like I am, all you do to stratify your seeds is plant them in the fall instead of in the spring, just like he explained. This method works very well with oak, buckeye, sugar maple, boxelder, linden, beech, walnut, pecan, chestnut, hickory, apple, pear, stone fruits, and so on.

    I need some help... I'm cold stratisfying lavender seeds using the mason jar technique, but some of the seeds are floating and some have dropped to the bottom. What does this mean? Are the ones that sink finished and ready to be planted? Should I fish them out and plant them?

    • @Kat.go.
      @Kat.go. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jewellianne W not sure If anyone gave u an answer. I have read often times that the seeds that float are not viable ... meaning they are bad abd won’t germinate and the ones that sink are good to use . But i don’t think it means that they are stratified. Hope that helped ~ good luck ! 👍
