Good video. Nice comparisons showing the differences and improvements. The Thermarest video you gave the link for IS epic. That is the way a factory should be operated. High quality, always improving and long term employees with a high sense of community. I personally have 3 of those early models they show that the company was built on. I am 71 and got them in the late 1970's. I still use them on occasion. They don't leak either. Wish they had that modern valve on them, that is a major improvement.
Cheers Denis, great to hear you had some of the original versions. I've got some of the self inflating mats, but they were produced in the early 2000's, that said, they're still in great shape and the kids sleep on them on garden camps! They are a fantastic company and put the customer first. Thanks for your comment Denis.
I've been considering swapping out my regular xtherm for the xlite nxt max for a couple of weeks now .....this video is really informative ☺️ Cheers Chris, hope you're well. Adge
Definitely going the thermarest route later in the year, need to try your idea about closing the valve after wrapping it up! I hate trying to roll my mat up!!! 😁
That's the best Review and comparison of the Xlites that i have watched, well done R Kid. I made the decision to buy the Max version a few weeks back and i love it and its a really cool colour too compared with the X Therm that i also really like but the colour is a bit Naff and reminds me of the skin tone of seasoned Smack heads. I was a bit hesitant to buy the X lite because i was out with my mate when he was using his X lite for the 1st time and the little toggle on the Synergy Straps that Thermarest have on some of there sleeping bags slit the X lite open . It made a 2 inch clean cut and he made a repair using Tenacious Tape which got him through the night and then sent it back to Thermarest with a full report and exactly how you stated here Thermarest replaced the Xlite within a couple of weeks which is what you would expect and hope for with a well established top end brand so yes it is indeed an investment and i bet you paid about less than half the current retail price when you initially bought your first X lite ten years ago :)
Haha, cheers mate. I could have spoken for about 40 minutes but realised u had been speaking for 20 odd minutes as it was. A top mat, I remember buying my original, I think it was about £80 at the time! I've used it as its evolved ever since and had it replaced twice - no messing round, as its a 'wear and tear' item at the end of the day. Give that behind the scenes video a watch - it's top. Atb pal 👌👍
Am still rocking my Pro-lite 4 (large) and can't remember when I bought it!! Haha - it's a great thing even now and it's one of the older foam/air systems. Very quiet though as none of the foil bits they use now, and still comfy
Nice vid Chris the Thermarest mats are certainly worth the money, especially when camping through the colder months. I had the neoair for a few years before getting the xtherm, the extra width certainly helps 👍
Nice video as always. I was put off buying Xlite because of the noise and ended up buying the sea to summit either light, super confortable but really not suitable around freezing temps so in a hindsight think its not the best option. Like you i think its great to have gear you can use year round....
Great comparison of the two mats that Chris. The new nxt model looks a cracking mat and a bit more depth which is good for side sleeping. I’m with you and my arms would end up on the cold floor so opted for a large wide rectangular exped synmat and that’s a whopping 9cm deep. It’s a bit heavier at 820g but it’s worth it for a comfortable night. ATB mate
I’ve been researching these recently to see which would be the best option for me also the Xtherm nxt reg wide. Still unsure between the reg wide xlite nxt or reg wide xtherm nxt now you thrown the max into my brain lol currently using the S2S ether lite xtreme it’s way to bulky and not really feeling the warmth from it. Great video really good comparison
In my view, if you sleep in clothes (which I do on a camp), the Xlite NXT can be used year round. I'll not go back from the 'MAX' version ever. As I get older, comfort and a good night sleep is more important to me. As in the video, the extra bulk is completely negligible. It's totally worth it.
Great comparison mate. How are you getting on with it now? You still happy? The main thing I am concerned about with the Thermarest is the "crisp packet" sound, but from your comparison, the new one seems so much better. I am looking for something to replace my Nemo Tensor that I've had nothing but issues with since purchase. In the first year I've had to send it back 3 times and it's failed me on four wild camps. I could get another one through warranty, but I've lost all faith in it.
Hi Chris…another great informative vid…just a quick question I’m looking at camping between months March-October any advice on best sleeping mat for those months…plus does the new neoair xlite nxt max work with a Thermarest trekking chair?
Mate, to be honest - I use this all year round. Never too hot, never too cold. Just works. Yes, the MAX does not as far as I'm aware, but the standard mummy shaped one - yes 👍
Brilliant video and comparison Chris , personally I have the xtherm max long , but also have got the xlite nxt max long as a present for my 40th off my mum. Looking forward to using it , ⛺️🤙🏕️

Nice and not paid review. Thank you for making the the video. I just ordered nxt max. Really impressed about the warranty policy. Good job
A very honest and reputable company
A great review of the mats Chris. Nice colour too. Have a great weekend 👍😊
Thanks, you too Cath 👍
Glad I found this review, so thanks. Went with the MAX for all the reasons you listed above. I also appreciate the extra tips and hints.
No worries Jimmy - 👍
A comfortable sleep is worth its weight in gold so a few extra grams of weight is nothing! Great review Chris 👍
Absolutely Jane - even more important I think the older you get! 👌👍

For me, the NXT is a worthy upgrade over the standard, especially in the MAX variant. Thanks for watching mate 👍

Just follow those steps mate, works every time

@MCMOutdoors cheers Chris , I will do ATB
Thanks mate I just bought a neoair xlite nxt after returning a leaky nemo tensor pad. Every time I stray from thermarest I end up coming back.
Always used them mate - any issues, they repair or replace. Priceless customer service

Sounds good Matt - someone else said they're a great sleeping pad 👍
Excellent video, thank you
Glad it helped

The NXT is very quiet mate - thanks for sharing your thoughts 👌

Thermarest Trail Pro is silent Chris I have one just a slightly larger bulk and weight, but it's comfortable I never seen a review for one yet 👊👍🥃
Will have to check those out. Thanks for the info Chris

Yes, still happy. There is no crisp packet sound with the NXT version at all.
