In this Physics video lecture for class 11 we explained Archimedes' principle known as law of floatation and buoyant force or force of buoyancy. We also derived the equation for floating bodies. During the derivation of the formula we found that the apparent weight for a submerged object in a fluid is the product of the volume of the object, the acceleration due to gravity and the difference in the densities of the object and the fluid.
Archimedes’ principle : It states that any body completely or partially submerged in a fluid (gas or liquid) at rest is acted upon by an upward, or buoyant, force the magnitude of which is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the body.
