    Hi everyone! Thank you for your lovely comments. There will be a part two with the trot and canter work, just have a bunch of other projects in the works, too! But it’ll be out eventually so keep an eye out.
    Also, check out my new line of saddle pads here, big release of something new coming soon 👀 www.amoreequestrian.ca/milestone.html#/

      Do you have any tips for a green horse that won't walk forwards?

  • @emmalynn6457

    Ponies are so much fun when you train them right. I think people don’t like them because they have a stubborn streak, since most people I know put beginners on ponies (?)and they learn bad habits, I would much rather have a beginner on an actual horse not pony. Bon bon is so cute, I love the feathers on his fetlocks lol

      I have a disorder too, where I can get sensory overload, and man, that voice overlapping reminded a lot of a public space, like a mall, full of people, but instead of it being a background buzz, it was right in my ears. Oh well, easy to make mistakes while editing!

    Shelby this is gonna sound really weird but can you explain how you fall safely, I’m pretty sure it’s a lot of peoples fear is falling off and breaking something so if we know how to do it correctly then we can build confidence.

    • @froggilas3088
      @froggilas3088 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ok..so it will take some time to learn how to fall correctly since a lot is happening in the moment you fall off. first, remember to LET GO OF THE REINS. also, sometimes in the moment before you fall you have a few seconds to think...take your feet out of the stirrups because falling cleanly hurts less than getting dragged. if you have a padded gymnastics mat or even a mattress practice falling (I know it sounds weird), and try to practice NOT putting your hands out to block you when you fall.

    I used to loan a horse that was ridden with specific verbal cues:
    • 'come round' for left, 'get round' for right, and 'back up' for backwards
    • 'get up' for faster, and 'woah' for slower (within a given gait)
    • '[gait name]' for transitions, and '[name]' for gaining attention
    I preferred this for my leisure riding as he would do what you tell him with minimal aids most of the time. Why is this sort of thing not typically used in English leisure riding? (I don't know about Western)

    • @Milestone-Equestrian
      @Milestone-Equestrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vocal cues are definitely used in English riding, I teach verbal cues from the ground prior to get on anything. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s unusual in English riding to use vocal cues

    @Murrinholi1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are one of the most talented horse trainers I've seen in a long time - and I've worked with an Olympian, one wee suggestion I've learned recently, you're standing too close to the ponies back end, I've seen a pony recently that gives no behaviour indications about anything - he kicked out even though he'd been long reined for 20 years. When teaching it can help to have someone at his head. Not a criticism just a lesson I learned. Laura

    • @Milestone-Equestrian
      @Milestone-Equestrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! The reason why I stand close is actually because if they do kick, then they cannot fully extend to get a powerful kick in but I wouldn’t stand that close with a kicker. Bon Bon is very tactile and scratches are a positive reinforcer so I have to stand close to give him scratches to reinforce :)

      @@Milestone-Equestrian sorry if that came off as one of those "I know it all" shitty TH-cam comments. It wasn't meant to, I've just seen horses spook so easily recently, from young to old. My disability and pain control is poor just now, I need to learn to explain what I mean more, never mind You have a lot more equine behavioural experience than I do. Is he a gypsy cob out of interest?

    needs a treeless saddle

    • @Milestone-Equestrian
      @Milestone-Equestrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There’s actually a ton of information pointing to negative implications with treeless, so great if it works for you, but certainly not foolproof enough to blindly recommend to everyone! I also think you may be hard pressed to find a trainer that will include a free brand new saddle with training, but best of luck :)

    • @OWK000
      @OWK000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Milestone-Equestrian There are a lot of really poor treeless saddles, but there are also good ones, and any saddle needs to work with each specific horse, but horses look so happy with a good fitting treeless. Needs some stability and structure--the slippy ones can be a problem and fit.

    • @Milestone-Equestrian
      @Milestone-Equestrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@OWK000 Again, glad it’s worked for you, not really a relevant comment here unless you want to buy this pony a saddle, then by all means, I would happily accept your generous donation.

    • @OWK000
      @OWK000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Milestone-Equestrian Somehow I feel like I may be verging into crazy vegan girl territory that doesn't even think horses should be ridden at all, but I will stop short of that, especially as BonBon looks very sweet and really happy to be engaging on this journey with you (especially in those last shots when the saddle is off). But I believe in a world where all horses have sound happy backs encased in good quality treeless saddles that fit right and their owners know how to perform horsey yoga and acupressurey chiropractic grade massage on/with them. No pressure, just a thought (fantasy). Peace love out.

    • @Milestone-Equestrian
      @Milestone-Equestrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@OWK000 Cool. My dream is just happy horses in whatever saddle fits them and works for their intended purposes. Achieving it pretty well right now and have been working closely with one of the leading saddle companies on the market that had been promoting this very thing. Treeless isn’t the only way and in all honesty, you’re only going to damage your message by going about it in the manner you are. Cheers.
