There's a couple things I'd like to add to this story, simply because it feels incomplete or slightly misleading otherwise. Not because IH was trying to mislead, but he's only human and mistakes crop up. Firstly, there's another reaction video to this done by someone with much more experience with boats and so on, I forget their job title but they added a lot of good information. The biggest of these was that the transition from head of security to captain is actually pretty common. You don't have to work your way up to captain, rather you just have to work in a relevant position on a ship while completing various training courses before you can become certified to become a captain, which is most likely what happened here. The other is that there was a lot of fishy stuff going on in the trial here, to the point that was an appeal to the EU Court of Human Rights, though I think it failed. The basic challenge was that the Italian government was looking to use the captain as a scapegoat for the whole thing and that the ruling had basically been decided before the trial began, and the supporting evidence is that the court allowed in witness testimony from the other officers even when it wasn't relevant or directly contradicted the recordings and logs available from the blackbox and so on. Don't get me wrong, that guy is a piece of shit and deserves some punishment, but I don't personally think he's the only one to blame here.
For the record it's worth watching the followup videos on the second channel even if you don't do a video for it, it clarifies a bunch of things especially some things that were oversimplified for the sake of time and were technically false

I love that the passengers immediately took action and wore life vests. Like, they knew the ship is gonna sink despite the crew telling them otherwise. "Don't worry! Everything is fine!" "Yeah, sure. Mmhmmm. Sure." Good on them.
And props to that one passenger who immediately sensed something was off and called her daughter and to her daughter for getting the proper authorities involved. Lord only knows when or if the chucklefucks on the bridge would have reached out to get help. They probably would have kept stalling and gotten even more people killed.
