They are supposed to come with a peice that makes noise when the soil gets dry. A family member of mine has a bird version. Look up soil moisture meter alarm. It should bring the bird version up.
I tried the Google search "vintage ceramic plant tender" And it brought up a bunch of these and they have sort of a cone shaped spike on the bottom...so they must be trickle waterers
My mom has some "plant tenders". They are a moisture meter of sorts. They are meant to alert you when the soil is too dry. Some change color, some make sounds, some with shift up out of the soil. They are handy little things. I have one that is shaped as E.T. and when the moisture gets too low it will change color from brown to grey like when E.T. got sick in the movie. I've never seen this particular model but, my mom has a bird that will chirp or whistle. I don't know how it works but it does. So excited for the series to be back. Love it.
So for the sound, if you look at the advertisement, it looks like in the front, they show the stakes you'd use to place the piece into your pot, and it looks like there's a little something electronic on it. I imagine their version of a plant tender was a moisture sensing thing, rather than a passive watering. And the sound would go off when the sensor went below a certain level of soil moisture. So nothing to do with the ceramic part, just electronics.
🤯you are right, those two thingies at the front of the ad are some kind of electronic probes! "Soil moisture meter" search shows some similar thingies with two sticks and a top part, modern and available for purchase😉
YES! Thank you so so much! I thought that was part of the artwork but it definitely is a part of something! Thank you for seeing what I didn't! So helpful!! I have added a community post clarifying the noise mysteries!!
After looking closely at the catalog and looking up ceramic plant tenders, I found that what you have is the top cover of a watering sensor. So if you look at the page with the frog, in front of the tenders are two stick-like items, those are the sensor parts and the ceramics go on top of them. Awesome job!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
Me and the kids are so excited to have the mystery moulds back that we casted it onto our TV to watch together this morning. We love the frog plant tenders, especially the blue and orange/purple frogs. Thank you Shelby!
AHH thank you os much!! I am so happy you all watch it together! It makes me so very happy knowing what a beautiful community we have! Thank you for your support and your membership to the channel!
Sorry to butt in, but oh my gosh, the mental image of a family watching this like a Saturday morning cartoon brought a huge smile to my face! Thank you for that. 💚
A plant tender is used to indicate when a plant needs watering. They are unglazed pieces of terracotta pottery that has the bottom part buried into the plant pot. When the plant is hydrated, the terracotta is dark and when it needs watering the terracotta is light x Alternatively, you can glaze the top part, leaving the bottom bit unglazed and putting a hole in that indent big enough for a houseplant watering can spout. X
I used to have a little unglazed terra cotta worm that you stuck into your pot. It didn't make noise, but when the soil was wet it was red, when it dried out it was pink. It had a cute little smiley face.
The sound might happen if you leave a hole in the branch, bury part of the bottom in the soil and then pour in water? Like the air escaping makes a whistle sound. Sometimes when I water my big potted plant that's on a ceramic plate, it "whistles" as the water comes out at the hole at the bottom.
I love this thought! This is kind of where my mind was going too! So I am a bit lost now! I was really hoping the sounds would happen naturally! I have now put up a community post with the answers!
I have no idea how the plant tenders should work but they are cute! My favourite is the blue one. Also, thank you for talking about Princess Highway on an earlier video. I ordered beautiful overalls and a playsuit and just received them after only 10 days, all the way to Canada!
Yeah, from what I'm finding, Plant Tenders, like tending your plant, is a way to slowly water your plant. I'm not finding anything about noises though. But they all have a hole in the top to pour water, or a little lid
These are adorable! I agree that by themselves the brown branch is better, but I love how the green branches look tucked in with a plant. It looks so much more natural and really lets the frogs shine. So excited that mystery moulds are back!
It actually hides the moisture meter alarm. Maybe back in the day you bought the cramic with the system and got the sound of your figurine. The hole in the bottom be should kept bigger.
So interesting! Plant tenders usually are meant to water while you're away but the noise and the fact it doesn't have a spike has me stumped. Can't wait to see what everyone else says!
I think thats why I didn't think it was for that! Usually you need somewhere to put the water too! This wouldn't hold very much at all even if it were super hollow! Interesting!
No idea on the plant tender thing. I agree with you about cartoon aliens being inspired by frogs. Lol My favorite by far is that spicy red frog! It really pops!
This mould, plant tender, requires an electronic probe that chirps when your plant is dry. These probes had different sounds depending on what animal was cast for them. I had seen something similar to the red robin and bull frog/toad. I don’t know if if you are able to purchase the probes, I would think highly unlikely, as there are so many different methods available today. But I absolutely love the idea for a ring holder or a small necklace child’s necklace stand. Keep up this beautiful and wonderful work and I -ray that your upcoming market/exhibitions are everything you desire.
Hey Shelby! A plant tender/minder is supposed to come with a little spike at the bottom for plant watering and yes, some make a noise as the plant soil dries out. Hope that helps out. Another cute video. I'm so happy season 2 is here! 😊
From what I found, a plant tender tends to your plants by slowly releasing moisture. They are meant to be placed near the stem/trunk of the plant. Can’t find anything about “sounds” though. Gorgeous frogs as well!
Frogs!!! Yeah! Mystery molds are back. This makes me so happy! I am glad you got a break, got your new studio stood up, got your new kiln, and had an exciting few months. I am glad to see the mystery molds again. Love this series! And starting out with frogs is wonderful!
If you zoom in to the bottom of the picture of the plant tenders, there are some little spikes that I believe are meant to be attached to the bottom of the frog/bird/dinosaur. They are probably battery operated and will make a sound when the ground is dry.
Yhe frog alien theroy makes sense but my thought as you were speaking was the first person to experience "alien abduction" ate some mushrooms (unintentionally) and had a bad trip. They went outside and in their state saw a frog and thought they were being attacked by aliens.
I like the different branches. Simply because if you put it in flowerpots like you did, you can match the flower in a way and make the frog more of a dlightful find.
I'm so happy this series is back!! The blue is my fave, and I would definitely love to have one tucked in to my house plants, whether it was watering them or not ❤
I agree, the yellow is the best and would look even better with a brown twig. That said, my absolute favorite color is blue and I really liked that one as well😊
When my 19 year old daughter was in pre-kindergarten her class did an end of year show about frogs. This episode bought back so many memories about the different kinds of frogs. Love your series.
Didn't you say it has a hole in the top? If so, you pour water in it, stick it into the soil in a pot with a plant in it, and it waters your plant while you are away. It makes sure your plant doesn't dry out. The only ones I have ever seen were made of blown glass. Yours are infinitely cuter!
I just adore your channel and artistic talent. However, your personality and bright disposition makes everything harmonize in a perfect symphony. All the best to you. May God continue to bless you and your family in body, mind and spirit. Looking forward to seeing your next video 😀
LOVE THEM!! And the mystery mold series. So glad that this series is popular so you were inclined to keep it up. It inspires me to get a kiln. I do air-dry projects but am just dying to have a kiln.
The "plant tender" part of the name is saying that it is a "tender of plants", as in when you "tend" to something it either means that you are nurturing and caring for it, or more modernly that you usually do something in a set way. It's an old usage of the word, but you can easily find about 100 years ago phrases in conversations such as "I will go tend to the dinner/garden/children/washing", if you said "attend" instead it meant that you were at the persons service, such as "I'll attend to our guests".
So happy that the mystery mode series is back and this piece I don’t know much about it so I don’t know if it makes noise but it is nice all the different colors look so pretty and my favorite color is green I think it’s so beautiful
Yay! Excited for the return of this series! I love the blue frogs the most, but they are all very lovely! I think this would be a good piece to add some fun patterns or flowers on, as well.
Poison dart frogs are actually my favourite animals of all time. I've always loved frogs. The yellow-banded poison dart frogs are my favourite frogs to be specific. (As well as the corroboree frogs) So I love this episode.
OH MY GOSH! YAY!! I was really hoping I would have some Poison Dart fans. I was nervous because I dont know too much about them but love the colouring!! I am so glad the yellow is one of your favourites too! WOOHOO!
1. I see it as a support, the sound may be a typo. 2. Never saw the alien before but I do now. 3. My favorite is the green, it seems stealthy, and would be fun to discover in a plant. I’m glad to have a return to the Mystery Mould series. Cheers from the Midwest USA💜
A plant tender usually helps with watering your plant as you fill it with water and it slowly drains into the soil -maybe there is a spot to remove on the frog or branch?
LOL! Love your Alien/Frog theory. The yellow & black are my favorite of the bunch, but also the red & black and the Orange/Purple/Black. Hurrah for Season 2!
My favourite colour is blue and my 4 yo daughter’s favourite colour is yellow but I think ur rainbow frogs were my favourite in this video. I’m super excited that the mystery moulds r back xx
I'm really excited about these mystery mold videos. I don't know why, I am not connected with pottery, just tried once. But your videos are very exciting and interesting) thank you for new season. I hope you will find more inspiration and new amazing molds!
To make them plant tenders you can upen the whole you saw and add an unglazed hollow spike to the bottom and voila. I don't have this particular one but i do have several that are made from ceramic.
Yellow and Orange! also here in california we have the native california red-legged frog, and theyre really endangered and also SO cute and they look kinda like those orange/red speckled ones!

Is that why there's a shallow bit in the trunk so you can thread it through?
@@shiyardiagariepy no it just goes into the hole in the bottom
Actually a plant tender waters a plant slowly.
THANK YOU!!
I tried the Google search "vintage ceramic plant tender"

100% those things are designed to snap into the base of the figurine after it's been fired. Good pickup!
YES! Thank you so so much! I thought that was part of the artwork but it definitely is a part of something! Thank you for seeing what I didn't! So helpful!! I have added a community post clarifying the noise mysteries!!

These would be cute ring holders!
Filled with sand!
I think it might be a watering spike
I would think that too except there are 2 key design aspects missing: the spike that goes into the dirt and easy access to add water.
That’s what I think.
I'm thinking the same thing.
Yeah, from what I'm finding, Plant Tenders, like tending your plant, is a way to slowly water your plant. I'm not finding anything about noises though. But they all have a hole in the top to pour water, or a little lid
Heheh! I have posted an update on the community page! I feel like you could muddle with the design a bit to get this idea to work though!
Love the plain green one with brown branch. I've never heard of a plant tender either, and I love gardening.
These are adorable! I agree that by themselves the brown branch is better, but I love how the green branches look tucked in with a plant. It looks so much more natural and really lets the frogs shine. So excited that mystery moulds are back!

1. No idea but I'm keen to find out
2. Yes, that makes perfect sense
3. The multicoloured frog is my fav
1. me too! Still wondering!
2. I am so glad you agree! I thought I was talking nonsense
3. I am happy you love the rainbow froggie!
I'm pretty sure the frog is a decoration to go on top of an actual electronic plant moisture alarm rode !
So interesting! Plant tenders usually are meant to water while you're away but the noise and the fact it doesn't have a spike has me stumped. Can't wait to see what everyone else says!

this design though!
As it’s part of a series maybe the spike part is in a different mould…? 🤔
Stumped 😏😏😅😅

That is also all I could find! Thank you so much for your help!!
So glad you brought this series back. Love your channel, Shelby. Your beautiful personality and artwork are a joy to follow.
I can see them as a ring/jewelry holder, attach it to a small plate. It would look adorably beside the kitchen sink 😁
Frogs!!! Yeah! Mystery molds are back. This makes me so happy! I am glad you got a break, got your new studio stood up, got your new kiln, and had an exciting few months. I am glad to see the mystery molds again. Love this series! And starting out with frogs is wonderful!
oooh the series is baaack! Hope you had time to rest and have fun inbetween :) ❤
Maybe instead of key holders, they can be ring holders. It would look pretty and colourful on a dresser or vanity table.
These are just adorable I loved them BEFORE THEY WENT INTO THE KILN ! But they took my breath away when they came out you are so good with colour !,
My first thought was a ring holder 💍
Loving all the colours. I do agree with you about the brown branches though ❤
Frogs! How delightful! I really love the little red friend.
Maybe it refers to sound as a noun. A long probe. So something that probes the soil
That makes sense, as so many are saying that there is something like a ‚spike‘ missing for it to be a plant tender
Love these! So fun, my eye is really drawn to the red frogs though, but all are so cool!
I love the orange one! However, you are right brown branch is the way to go!
These would make perfect little ring holders!
With more stable base I'd agree with it being used as a ring holder
I am so happy to see this series again! Blues and greens are my favorite colors, but out of these I like the blue ones more
I love them all! My favourite is the orange and purple one with the rainbow one as a very close second. Thanks for a great video! ❤️
My favorite color is the green tree frog. You can't beat the classic!
It would make a good ring holder
I love the blue one with black spots and the green tree frog! They look realistic!!!!
They are all wonderful but I love the red ones. The brown branches are a nice contrast.
If you zoom in to the bottom of the picture of the plant tenders, there are some little spikes that I believe are meant to be attached to the bottom of the frog/bird/dinosaur. They are probably battery operated and will make a sound when the ground is dry.

I find it so relaxing to watch you create
Wow I absolutely love love these frogs. Obviously the yellow is my favourite 💛💛💛
I like the different branches. Simply because if you put it in flowerpots like you did, you can match the flower in a way and make the frog more of a dlightful find.
My favorite is the blue and the rainbow one ❤. So happy to have this new season of Mystery Moulds !!
The lighting in your new studio is amazing ❤
I think once they are with the plant, the green matches nicely, so the frog stands out.
Wow Oh WoW. Such beautiful frogs. Your colors are amazing. I want one.
Thank you so much Patricia! I am so happy you love how the colours turned out!
I am glad the series is back. Poison dart colors r perfect. So pretty😊
Id love to see the brown branches given some depth and texture. These are *sooo* cute.
I'm so happy this series is back!! The blue is my fave, and I would definitely love to have one tucked in to my house plants, whether it was watering them or not ❤
I agree, the yellow is the best and would look even better with a brown twig. That said, my absolute favorite color is blue and I really liked that one as well😊
I love the old molds, these little fellas are adorable, I also like the yellow!
I love the green branches. To me it makes the frogs look great! Especially the blue one. What a nice mould!
Love the yellow frog with the green branch 💛
When my 19 year old daughter was in pre-kindergarten her class did an end of year show about frogs. This episode bought back so many memories about the different kinds of frogs. Love your series.

You go girl! My favorite is the blue frog. 🐸 💙
So glad the mystery molds are back..your frogs look great.
Yay!!! Season two of mystery molds! Im so happy!😊😍😆😃
They are just so cute. I loved the red one.
Weeeeerrrreeee baaaaack!! These are so cool! I like the red one and the multicolored rainbow one the best.
I just adore your channel and artistic talent. However, your personality and bright disposition makes everything harmonize in a perfect symphony. All the best to you. May God continue to bless you and your family in body, mind and spirit. Looking forward to seeing your next video 😀
These are adorable! The Orange with the Purple legs is my favorite. Can’t help with plant tender as that is a new term to me too.
LOVE THEM!! And the mystery mold series. So glad that this series is popular so you were inclined to keep it up. It inspires me to get a kiln. I do air-dry projects but am just dying to have a kiln.
These would be cute as supports for orchids
These came out adorably!
Yeaaaa!! For mystery molds season 2!! I love your alien origin theory! It makes so much sense. My favorite froggy guy is the green with orange feet. 🥰
my favorite color is blue and i love the little blue frog with black dots that you painted!

The froggies are adorable! You have some really cute things. So wish postage to the US wasnt so expensive. I purchase some from you 😊

I also actually love the green branches, then when putting it in with a plant, the frog will really, really pop.
Thank you! That has made me feel so much better about the green!!
Yay!! So glad the mystery moulds are back. These froggies are FAB!! LOVE the orange and purple ones :)
I like the brown and the green. They are so cute!!!
The rainbow one is my favorite.
I LOVE them! I do like the brown tops better. I love the real frog look! ❤️❤️❤️
Those would make cute lawn ornaments
Ring holder as well. They turned out great

Love the blue and rainbow frogs! So happy this series is back- but I've really loved a lot of the other videos you've done during your break!
I'm really excited about these mystery mold videos. I don't know why, I am not connected with pottery, just tried once. But your videos are very exciting and interesting) thank you for new season. I hope you will find more inspiration and new amazing molds!

JUST LOVE these colourful frogs ! You are so creative and always make me smile !
Thanks so much 😊
Reading The World in a Grain of Sand/ Vince Beiser. which includes pottery and apparently the rest of our world. Fascinating
Those tree frogs turned out So cute! I am definitely partial to the Blue ones! Such a nice series! I love this!!
I like the green with all the colours of froggies.
Doc Holiday Molds is still a functioning company. You could just ask them directly.
Absolutely adorable
Yellow and Orange! also here in california we have the native california red-legged frog, and theyre really endangered and also SO cute and they look kinda like those orange/red speckled ones!
