I care about your video on fixing the powerhead
    - just knowing where to start with the screws has been a big help
    - job now done, all working well
    - thankyou
WHEEL REMOVAL with minimum damage to the caseing.
I recomend some thin tie-wire around the wheel axles to aid removal of the wheels (thin so that it fits in the gap between wheel side and the caseing)
    - feed the wire in and around the axle (a bit of prebending helps)pull the lef thru by about 50mm,
    - trim the other leg to suit the pulled thru leg so both are about 50mm long
    - join the two leg ends securely (tight twists and bend the twists back on them selves to sop the twists coming undone)
    - get scredwdiver thru the joined legs loop and gently lever the wheel out (if you go the full monty and pull hard, you will likely loose the bits all over your shop / room floor
    - Repeat for the remain wheels
    - Inspect the axle caseing for anyslight damage and push any bent pastic back inshape

Can’t thank the OP enough for putting this up. With your first breakdown to subsequent tips from other commenters I was able to service mine without damaging anything. Just made one slight error in putting it back together. Note to all, if you take on the challenge don’t forget it’s the big axles for the little wheels and little ones for the big. I now have two seriously jammed in big axles where they shouldn’t be and I was doing so fucking well.

Thanks a lot for the video mate, after a year or so the head was completely blocked. I managed to follow your video even using a few different sized flathead screwdrivers for the security torx screws (to add insult to injury I have a Bosch screwdriverhead set which includes torx heads but not with the hole in the middle). I even replaced the torx screws with regular screws to make it easier in the future too!

Thanks for the video. I wouldn't have fixed it without this.

I ran into the same issue. Same brand & Model. Doesnt matter how well you look after it. That buildup of dirt is unreachable. Thanks for the video!

Thanks mate, really good and important video.
Seems small and not worth the time but actually you point out an enormous problem with the big corporations.
I had decided that this was how this head was designed, you completely confirmed this.
Our business is a big tool buyer, from now on we will not buy and Bosch products, and there is so much competition in the market there is no need to.

Thanks so much for this. This is the second powerhead that has gone on my bosch. This time I thought I would try to fix it so it is good to see that it is flawed. Sadly I quite like the vacuum but it was a big drama trying to get my last powerhead replaced.

We have had it block and fail so often it's not funny. Compared to the Electrolux and Miele the powerhead with Bosch is just bad.
The Vacuum otherwise is indeed great!

Used mine 5 times before it stopped spinning. This is going back to the store. Thanks for the info.

I found this video well after I had cleaned the powerhead and wanted to check I was putting it back together correctly. I also found the front screws filled in and I needed to carefully remove it.
The amount of dirt and hair bound up inside was enormous. The design contributes to the problems by actually trapping dirt and hair in the bearings, so it has to be disassembled to restore the action.
I took a photo of the crap I got out of it...crazy stuff

Well, I fixed it but it took about an hour or two. Couldn't have if it wasn't for the 'heads up' about the glue inside the (security torx screw heads) Thank You Andrew Frahn a clear indication of diy prevention methinks. The video helped to confirm the method of getting at the four roller end screws which ended up in bending the trim somewhat. Not a problem job to do if you don't mind damaging it a bit. ;)
The stoppage was caused by a pin wedged into the Turbine impeller
Oh! btw and have the torx drivers plus a persistent "Bull in a China shop" nature. :)

Thank you, Great video gave me a good heads up.Just had to repair mine. BBH5/6- BCH6. Torque screws are cheap quality, I had corrosion in mine I had to clear before the driver could get in. Note: 4 clips on rear wheels no screw underneath. Pried front screws of using screwdriver the same size as gap on end of the metal rod with minimal damage. NOTE: 2 clips in front of head are difficult to undo. These hold it together after all screws are removed(Centre 10.5cm from each end, clips about 1/2inch wide)

Cleaned out one of these today - piece of cake...... Saved €60 doing it myself..
Bought May 2014 and thus plenty fluff on board. The wheels must be removed (my finding) with a pair of pliers. Found no glue (surprised you did) in any of the torque screws.

A very useful HEADS UP for this item as I only had suggestions from Bosch to but a new one.
I used to give these lot a lot of credit for their power tools but I am disappointed in the almost typical intent to give everything a much earlier fail date than in the 'good ole days'.
I suppose being an engineer in my past life I'll just have to fix it.
    HOW ANNOYING!

    • @AndrewFrahn
      @AndrewFrahn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Unfortunately it seems indeed to be a trend. Ryobi are doing it with their angle grinders right now, the ventilation fan blows over the MOSFETs on the PCB to keep them cool.... sounds alright. Has been for years in the past.
But now there is no coating on the board... and angle grinders tend to make... conductive dust.
That's why they die after such a small amount of use.

I got about 6 hours total use before it clogged up. Its the most abysmal piece of design engineering I have seen from a German appliance company. I also cannot get it open without damaging the device or myself in the process.

Yes You are dead right, I have just gone through the same crap trying to service the inside of my unit ,I had exactly the same problem with the wheels ,and after Talking to bosch Australia parts division ,,I was told that no replacement wheels were listed ,,,,,,but WE DO HAVE A NEW POWER HEAD AVAILABLE IN STOCK priced at $ 120 + they try to hide the screws and use security heads, and again you are right they are easily cleaned ,,,,,,,junk is a good description ,,,you forgot to mention the ERGONOMICALLY designed vacuum itself,,,How easy is that centurion tank,to drag around the floor?
I will never look at Bosch again!!!!!!!!!

Great stuff. I have had it for a year and a half with zero issues (I clean the brush all the time) and my parents bought one just recently. I'm going to buy a iFixit repair tool kit of sorts one day anyway since I tinker with anything that can be tinkered with, and I noticed the handful of versions I considered and put on my list in this particular store all happen to include a few small (1 smaller than TR10 but can't read size), TR10, some also TR15, TR20, TR25, and the bigger kits also TR27, TR30, TR35, and TR40.
Do you happen to know the size of the security torx you highlight in the video? If you know the size and could tell me I can at least make sure to get one of the kits that include that size as well.

I dunno if it helps after two weeks but I just finished cleaning mine and the security torx was of the size tr20. Good luck.

Agree. It's a total disaster. Not going to win a design award for serviceability! After finding the hidden screws under the wheels it was easy to disassemble (I have special screwdriver head) but putting them together was tedious. I expected better engineering from Bosch.

If you don't have the tools, such as security torx drivers, then maybe you should just leave this stuff to the pros.

Brand new brush is not turning when we simply put it on the carpet. Changed from guarantee and it is not turning when we put it on the carpet. Terrible terrible design.

Took me 30 minutes to fix mine. No idea what you are whining about. Most vacuums are similar.

    • @AndrewFrahn
      @AndrewFrahn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Maybe many are, but of the other brands we have had (Electrolux and Miele) they do not have these problems, infact they have no problems.
      So the complaint is genuine.
Even if that wasn't the case, and all makes were badly made, this is still not an excuse for them to be made badly.
