Nathaniel David Rowland, 27, stands trial for allegedly murdering Samantha Josephson, 21. Court is held in Richland County, South Carolina. You can watch in the player above.
Josephson, a student at the University of South Carolina, got into a vehicle that she believed was her Uber in the early morning of March 29, 2019, according to police. She was found dead in Clarendon County the next day, stabbed more than 30 times.
Rowland was pulled over in his Chevy Impala, and he ran, officials have said. Josephson’s phone and blood were in the car, investigators said. There were also cleaning supplies, with the child locks engaged, according to authorities.
“I can not fathom how someone could randomly select a person, a beautiful girl and steal her life away,” Samantha’s mother Marci Josephson said in a statement to the court in 2019, according to Live 5 News. “His actions were senseless, vile and unacceptable. It sickens us to think that his face was the last thing that my baby girl saw on this earth.”
Samantha’s parents started the #WhatsMyName campaign and is working to pass “Sami’s Law” in South Carolina, which would require ride-share drivers to be clearly identified before passengers enter the vehicle.
Rowland’s family has insisted on his innocence. He was passed out at a house party the night Josephson was abducted, his cousin Trey Elmore told South Carolina newspaper The State in an April 2019 report.
Rowland’s father Henry Rowland shared the second-hand story with WACH around the same time. In this account, Nathaniel Rowland woke up to find his keys were gone, but discovered his vehicle outside. The keys-and blood-were inside. His father said that if this story were true, then it was a mistake not to call 911. It was also a mistake to run during the traffic stop.

Yes there was another situation where he and another guy robbed a woman and they stole the woman purse..I believe the woman was hurt but not killed and the police never pressed charges. Nate was the main player but they claim they did not have enough evidence Oh yes he has done this before. Many times I am sure.

Why would you offer a plea deal to someone if there was so much evidence against them?
The point of a plea deal is to guarantee that they are given a penalty. If the evidence is overwhelming, the jury will definitely convict.

The State almost always offers a plea deal……the State does not want to go to trial / it is very expensive. It is the Defendant that pushes for trial.

Her DNA was found under his nails and his body didn’t have injuries but his leather jacket was covered in scratches so 🤷🏻♀️

So, she was picked up from the club around 2:10 am and at 5:45 am he is at the first ATM trying to get money from her debit card. Obviously he wasn't passed out on a friend's couch somewhere.

Exactly. She is a useless witness. But I think her relevance to this is the fact that the “kill notepad” he wrote his plan regarding his cover up, came from fedex where she had worked and where they met.

If you do a google search, he had been arrested 5 months prior in possession and attempting to sell items taken from a woman’s home who had been kidnapped, assaulted, and forced to withdraw money from an atm, then taken to her home where the items were stolen from. This is not not new behavior for him…I bet there are others who didn’t report.

This fool PICKED HER UP IN HIS CAR, was photographed, KILLED HER IN HIS CAR, BLOOD EVERYWHERE, wrote list on envelope to get rid of her body, left said list in glove box with his handwriting on the list, his fingerprint and her blood also on said envelope! Murder weapon found at girlfriends house, I mean I can go on but why? HE IS GUILTY!

At 00:32:25 Defense violated the first rule of lawyering: never ask a question of a witness where you don't know the answer. She helped the prosecution in this case.
This defense team is super weak.
The prosecution needed no help.

The prosecution in general did a great job in this trial, but I don't think they capitalized on the cellular evidence testimony nearly enough. The RTT circles intersecting at the body location was quite damning and I don't think the significance was explained fully to the jury. I also would have diagrammed the timeline of cell site and sector usage.
At 12:45 second mark it looks like he is wearing slides.
His gal friend Maria Howard in her testimony 2 days ago mentioned there being slides found in the impala vehicle.

If my car was taken and I found blood inside I might be afraid the police would involve me too,but I know for sure I am going to find out who amongst me took my car,had to be someone close...but what about the clothes etc.and before I cleaned anything then I might go to police to preserve evidence and I would certainly testify regardless of what the lawyers say,if it's the truth what do I have to lose and it can only help

But when Rowland was arrested he was wearing flip flops. Also, the person at the ATM attempting to withdraw money with Josephson's card was wearing flip flops.

I understand what the defendant Is doing. With a plea of not guilty he is free to appeal to the state indefinitely. With a guilty plea he would still be able to file, but it would never be considered. This case of course would never be considered even with the not guilty plea. But still.. theres a sucker born every minute, and the defendant has all the time in the world for one to take the bait.
