Hello Ross and Janet. I also had a bad experience with the vinyl planks a couple of years ago. Poor adhesion and shrinkage also. I had been wondering if you would buy the thinnest bamboo planks you could find, and run them through a thickness planner, taking the bottom off. I assume that they would be sealed on the bottom, and then glued down. At work we have glued down vinyl flooring, bit it too has split at joins, and in a couple of spots come away from the wall. It still looks pretty good, long wearing and very practical. Good luck with your choice. The boat is looking pretty darn good and a credit to you both.
Peel and stick is a very temporary solution, vinyl glue down is the way to go. I put glue down, as recommended by a flooring shop, in my daughter’s kitchen 3 year ago and it is still going strong.
Hi Roscoe, great job and astounding achievement; maybe this is already understood and calculated but if not l would be worried about that 20mm threaded rod "chain plate" carrying oscillating loads. Being a commercial item it has cut threads vulnerable to fatigue failure. Either the loads need to be small or the bolt must be torqued to a higher load than can arise in service, l wonder if the structure can carry the compression load and not creep under the strain.? The aircraft industry sometimes uses rolled threads in this situation, and an easier process than you might imagine. Robin Robin
Good eyes Janet ! Maybe you should make a reinforced bolt in watertight door for accessing port fwd crash bulkhead if you mean to have it be a useful space ? Something shaped with taper of hull to allow good access for bulky light items that may not need frequent access ? Spare sails, extra rudder, filters and so forth ?
I used a similar self stick flooring in my camper and the self stick glue kinda sucked, after a couple cool/hot swings it was all popping up.. unless that has really good self adhesive, I would use some additional adhesive
The only problem that I can see is if your base floor isn't completely flat and level these panels will show any uneven areas . I put the thicker panels in our kitchen and I laid them out before sticking them down and im glad I did. They magnified every uneven place so I had to put a leveling compound down and sand it flat so the floor didn't show every little mistake. It looks great now but it was a lot of work getting the sub floor flat so the uneven areas didn't show up Good luck hopefully your sub floor is level and flat.
Ross that was pure god given luck…noway you planned that…. You only told us you were going to drill a hole in that chainelate. Did you have that changeplate? I want to see recipe dates….lo, .. Now go buy a lottery ticket, lol.
my experience with the laminate flooring was not so good, i had them popping up and the glue that was in them got bad, but that might have had something to do with living here in the frozen hell, aka finland.once again i am not saying it was a bad idea, the product that i used was awfull
Hey Ross. First time comment. Just curious, we have a 32ft solid fore deck cat and don,t need a seagull striker as the front beam intergrated into the hulls is strong enough to resist any upwards force. Also seen many other solid deck cats same Just wondering why your cat needs one? Cheers
I put that same floor in a couple yachts
Does very well, will shrink w cold weather not enough to worry about
I can’t believe you welded a bolt to the drill bit. 😂
Nice choise of floor, and awesome that they make it so thin.
The roof turned out greate, nice work as always.
Have a greate weekend.
All the best.

The timber floor looks great for the thickness of it. Don’t second guess the boss Rossco🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺
Never second guess the boss. The flooring had a texture to it which is surprising given the thickness, but feels and looks genuine.Ross
Very nice choice for the flooring. Pattern and color look great. What an eye to match it so well.

The flooring stuff cuts well, as by now you know. I think you made a great choice.
Thanks Kev, should be relatively simple to put down.Still haven't gotten around to it with so many little jobs ahead.Merry Christmas mate.
And a Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Ross, what about putting a drain hole in the lockers with a plug you can access from inside?
Fantastic progress sir! stay safe!
Thanks buddy.

Do you trust the adhesive on the back of flooring? Always found using separate adhesive with dry tile much stronger.

Should have raised the roof way back at the beginning to fix head height.

Please do not put flexible panels on the top. The heat will destroy your hard work Ross. Rigid panels have served us very well.
We are definately installing all hard panels, doing them now.Ross
@@LifeOnTheHullsgood call big fella. 👍
But did you get a snag at the box store, that's far more important.
Always mate, Fund-raiser for our local marine crescent. Cheers Ross
fill those areas with foam, its not worth the little bit of storage
That small hardtop is bigger than it looked when you made it. ❤. You need a few hands to get it in place…Where’s Janet? 🥸
