Thanks for taking me on a ride back to yesteryear. I bought my '82 XJ750RJ used with less than 5K miles in 1988, painted most beautiful metallic red ever with a 4:1 pipe that really accentuated that throaty growl. It had a half fairing and made it great for long distance riding. I put 50K miles on it over the next 8 years, crossing N. America, New Hampshire to California via the Trans Canada highway twice. Age finally gained ground on me and I had to quit riding but just hearing that sound and seeing that unique speedo display in front of me brought it all back in a flash. Great ride.
Nice man, my bike actually came from New Hampshire or so the story goes... It didn't look like that when I got it, but I'm pretty happy with the result! Glad you liked the video!
I had an '83 XJ750. Great bike. The low end torque was phenominal. But I think it was the gearing. Redlining it was scary. Thanks for posting the vid. Great memories.
Here's a motorcycle with lots of personality, good fun horsepower and incredibly nimble for its size, extremely comfy and bulletproof mechanicals, also sounds beautiful with a 4x1 exhaust,i had a lot o motorcycles in my life, but this one overall was the best, not the most beautiful, not the most powerful, but overall the best of the bunch and the one i miss the most.
Aye - I bought mine new in 1981. Got flatter bars and used to cruise easily over a ton up the M4 racing Porches and Lotus Esprits. She was quite vibey at high revs but what a bike. Great handling for her day. Better than my mates GSX750 ... and that turbine distinctive engine sound. Thanks for this!
I had a bright red 1982 XJ 750 Seca in 1985/6. I *almost* bought another four years ago for £500 then in a haze of nostalgia I bought a bright red XJ 750 Seca off ebay last month.
Aaaahh ! That whistle. Fond memories. Had one in the late 80’s when I was a motorcycle courier in the UK. Put 80k on it in 2 years. Everything slowly stopped working and in the grand scheme of things it was shit slow. Stopped doing the courier thing and part exed it for a FJ1100, which was not slow, at all😀
They are a fun bikes. I hated the speedometer that only showed your speed up to 85 mph. I always had it pegged, so you never know how fast the dam thing would really go. I know they went well over 100 for sure. Piss poor brakes too. I got mine from a friend who didn't know shit about bikes and it ran like crap (I gave him $300 for it) I ended up re-doing the carbs, and synchromizing them so it would run right. I rode the crap out of it for 4 or so years and sold it for $1500. Not bad.
Yep' so fun! Obviously they can go over 85 and 100 ! Speedometers are until 136 (220km/h) in Europe... I had made some crazy times at 110 and more, with mine '82 11M in France, but honnestly you got to keep the faith with these so narrow tyres!
Thanks DragonWrath23. The plugs should be NGK BP7ES (or the BPR7ES for the resistor model). Yep, hitachi carbs... same as the 650 with different air and fuel jets.
I wouldn't say I miss them :P. Seriously though it never came with bar covers (aftermarket), nor fuselage cover either. Put euro bars on it and it makes it feel like a pretty big rig.
@@boilup709 I am looking for one, always wanted one, love the sound. Guy up the street bought one new and I always liked it. He worked a job packing groceries into bags at sobeys at avalon mall for years to buy it. What color is yours?

I'd love to have an FJ1100/1200 . The red and white colored ones were named 'ambulances' right?
