Great episode!
On Ketramose:
1. If you're running Leonin Relic-Warder, another common combo with it is Grim Monolith/Mana Vault + either mana altar + Nim Deathmantle for infinite mana, which will solve the problem of not having infinite for Walking Ballista. Nim Deathmantle will also combo off of Ashnod's Altar and OBM.
2. In the same vein as the above point, Phyrexian Altar + Abdel + Animate Dead = infinite mana. The spicy part about this is that you can use Angel's Grace as a silence effect for this combo and the one above, since everything is either a triggered ability or a mana ability.
3. Notably, Dauthi Voidwalker and Leyline of the Void are nonbos with Ketramose, since they are replacement effects, which means the cards never hit the graveyard off of them.
4. For Coffin Purge's flashback, it is exiled from the stack, which won't trigger Ketramose. Searching up any card with flashback on Scryfall will yield the following relevant ruling:
"Flashback [cost]" means "You may cast this card from your graveyard by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost" and "If the flashback cost was paid, exile this card instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack."
5. I'm surprised that Planar Void, which is an auto-include, didn't make it into the deck.
6. Necropotence is BUSTED with Ketramose. For the aforementioned scenario to work without killing yourself, you would probably need to have mana available and a flash enabler (Emergence Zone is huge here) to win on your endstep. The obvious aside, I would imagine what happens is after going to cleanup step and triggering Necropotence and Ketramose, you get another round of priority to do things, so you can cast Angel's Grace then. HOWEVER, if at any point you run out of gas and move to discard to get more triggers, you will lose the Angel's Grace during cleanup after you discard. The triggers for Necropotence and Ketramose go onto the stack after cleanup. Obligatory not a judge, so I did have to ask about this to confirm that this is the case.
7. I feel that the deck needs a few ways to draw cards that don't cost you life. Between Ad Naus, Necro, TOR, and Ketramose himself, you're going to lose lots of life extremely fast, even if your opponents aren't swinging at you. Trouble in Pairs is great for that, but that's probably going to eat into your Ad Naus plan quite a bit.
On Hashaton:
Ok, let's be honest, there's not much to say about Hashaton. Although Intruder Alarm and Unearth creatures could be pretty spicy.
Waste Not/Bone Miser as tech for Hashaton? Might not be needed at all, but it's spicy tech that can be considered.
Great to see you back!
I'm still not sold on any infinite mana combos just because without an outlet, they don't do as much for the strategy. I suppose if you are drawing a ton, you'd have cards to spend it on, but I'll play around with the cards you mentioned.
I also thought about Planar Void, but was worried it might interrupt the Leonin+Animate Dead combo, but I don't think it interferes with much else so I'll probably replace Coffin Purge with Planar Void since flashback didn't work how I thought it did.
Also, I think Hashaton has so many ways to build it so it will be interesting to see what direction brewers take it in the coming weeks.
@ Planar Void most definitely nonbos with Relic-Warder, and there aren’t many ways you can get rid of your own pieces in Orzhov, unfortunately. That being said, deck construction would have to be extremely different from the current Ad Naus build you have, because you would need different tools to circumvent the downside of Planar Void.
Walking Ballista is definitely the best outlet for Orzhov decks, and I hope there will be more the coming year. That being said, it’s the easiest way you have to win. I’m recommending these combos because they offer an axis of attack with Angel’s Grace, which is already a part of the deck.
I also just had a potential "aha" moment and realized that Abdel Adrian can exile mana rocks too, which could be used for infinite mana right? Then filter through Walking Ballista.
@@ThecEDHSermon Correct. Notably, Abdel operates differently from Worldgorger Dragon, so if he is removed before his ETB resolves, you won’t exile anything.
Hell of a sermon! 🃏
So, yeah, you can do like a crazy end step sculpt with Necro (ala Gitrog). I leaned in to that w my list. I have two of the “shimmer myr/urzas battle Thopter affects” so you go to end step w like 12 cards and you just kinda go off. You have to play all the rituals and fast mana I think to make it work. Then I’m trying to finish with Aetherflux resevoir like the old Shimmer Zur decks.
I took it a step further and added Skirge Familiar.
W either necro + Skirge familiar you have an engine that says “pay one life, add B, draw a card”. That seems good to me. I haven’t tested the deck and it may be that the two plans get in each others ways too much and it really needs to be either/or but atm I’m going the Relic Warder and the aetherflux
Still a lot to work out
I was also looking at Skirge Familiar. It's on my sideboard of cards I'm considering. The more people comment new suggestions, the more I realize how many possibilities there are with this deck. Glad to have you!
Relic of legends to tap Abdel for any one colored mana during the infinite can create infinite mana
Hmm, interesting! I realized it can also go infinite by flickering your mana rocks as well! Tons of potential combos throughout the deck.
I disagree slightly that card quality is more important than synergy. In certain decks like 4-5 color good stuff I’d agree. But decks like Magda, kinnan, and even now plagon. Leaning heavy into the synergy with more limited commanders may be the way to go.
Great point. I probably could've phrased it better. Lower color combinations probably should lean into synergy more compared to the 3-5 color decks that have more options for quality cards. It was more of a warning to potential new players to not exclude powerful staples in place of more synergistic cards. I think balance is key.
@@ThecEDHSermonfair enough. Also this was just a little critique on an overall great video. I’ve loved orzhov since I got into magic so I’m excited for there to be a viable commander for cEDH that just isn’t abdel Adrian.
Thank you! Critiques are more than welcome. I love that cEDH in general creates so much room for discussion. There is rarely one right answer.
I'm thinking about a flicker deck with a little target removal, but asmodeus will be good for this commander
I just realized could i flicker asmodeus and activate the draw 7 ability and resolve the triggers so I'll get the cards in my hands?
@@willpatterson7531 if you activate the ability then in response exile asmodeus then yes the cards would go into your hand as long as asmodeus is still in exile as the draw ability resolves.
Yo! Just FYI, I had shred memory in my version as well. I think people are sleepin on it. It finds too many things we want and is actually modal in exactly this deck.
Good catch.
Hell yeah! Such a cool card and fits directly into the strategy of the deck.
Angels Grace doesnt work with Necro. Its effect ends at "end of turn, which therefore stops keeping you alive once you hit cleanup step from state-based actions
@@27noetic yep you're right. Mistakes were made and lessons were learned. Thanks for clarifying that!
If you were interested in seeing the kinda budget stuff we get up to..

This breaks my mold a bit cause it’s technically > $100 w the commander but it’s a more recent and relative deck you may be interested in.
Yeah I'll check it out!
Too much hype man. Ease up. The deck sells itself.
I was thinking not enough actually ;)
Pretty sure these guys have Bitcoin invested in this deck and that's why they are trying to sell it so hard.
This guy understands! We bet it all. It's either a box under a bridge or a black lotus for us.
