Other songs just didn’t have anything creative going on. They were all pretty predictable. But safety net, POV, and just like magic were really good and I still listen to them today.

The problem is she never had her own style to begin with. Her fans don't wanna be honest but she has always been a copy of other people. Her main producer Ashley and of course the more modern version of Mariah Carey. And even with both of those women those style's are getting old very quick. She needs to figure out who she is and what she wants to do, not just following trends or other people's musical genius. This is the moment where she decides if she wants to be known as an actual artist, cemented in history or just some singer who was popular for a while.

Trap ages badly when misused or overused. Take some of the critically well-received R&B albums in the last few years - SZA's CTRL is progressive R&B that mostly avoids generic trap and still sounds great. Mariah may be way past her prime but even she knew to stay away from bad trap with Caution and so the result was more timeless. These albums are 3+ years old and yet sound less dated than most of Positions.
Ari wanted to juxtapose trap with orchestral flourishes on this album and while I admire the stab at creativity and the effort to bring back the use of string instruments in current music, the trap beats just suck the life out of the tracks they are used in. It's not a coincidence that POV is the most loved song on the album - it's one of the songs that don't have to rely on generic trap beats. Thank U, Next worked because of the clever use of the genre. It would have been ideal to stop using it at that project and go fully R&B with Positions.

coming from someone who is not a fan of Ariana, I absolutely love her vocals and how much control she has over her voice. This album is a decent album, not the best that I have heard from her but I do have some “liked” songs such as pov, just like magic, positions, 34+35 (y’all don’t attack me pls 😭) but yeah, from my first listening, I was more of the “ok that’s great... but she could do better” and I don’t mean that in a rude mean. I just meant that she could do more with her talent than this album rn, which I hope she will in the near future

So true. Dangerous Woman was SUCH a phenomenal album. I could never express how good it was. It had depth in every sense - the instrumentals, the emotions in her voice, the lyrics, the sound engeneering and the list goes on. Ever since GIAW, her music just became shallow. There is no unnoticed instruments to discover after 14 listens, no lyrics that JUST HIT even after 27 listens, nothing (probably except ghostin & IMH). This has caused her last couple albums to age really badly for me. I can't wait for her to return to music and really hope she does so with something substantial.

I think the album is a grower, I enjoy pov, west side, obvious, my hair, safety net, off the table, motive, and positions. just like magic is nice too. the rest aren’t super special to me
same here, i didn't like it much at first but it grew on me. the only song i really couldn't vibe w was shut up

Yeah this album was just not it for me either. The only songs I genuinely liked were my hair and pov. Positions and off the table were ok too I guess but I definitely wouldn't go out of the way to listen to them. The rest of the album was just kinda repetitive and boring if I were to give my honest opinion. But to each their own
This was my reaction exactly. I felt the same way about that album. She needs to leave that trap sound alone. I guess it's cause it sounds like everything else on the radio and it's what sales but she's more than that. She has so much talent in that voice and just hearing it go to waste in this album was just upsetting to me.

@;; m&m 's Agreed. The most I'd listen to a song I'm put off by if 2 times. Most people don't actually listen to a song the first time, especially when coming in with preconceived ideas about it so it's always good to give it another shot so you can actually focus on what the song is and not just what you don't like. More then 2 times though and your just forcing yourself to like it and eventually your brain will.
@@jonathanm.9801 I disagree. Listening to a song the first time is never the best way to judge it because it’s all new material entering your brain in a short period of time. Any sound you hear that’s slightly unusual to what you’re used to and you’ll automatically hate it...
P.s. I loved the whole album first listen and I still find ALL the songs in it from good to amazing and I said what I said 💋
