This was the movie that convinced me Crispin Glover would kill it as The Joker.

Crispin Glover has always been eccentric in his appearances on an off screen, and deliberately turns down many “mainstream” roles (that would probably bring him a lot more notoriety and cash flow) in favor of retaining his off-beat persona in roles like this, the one armed bellhop in “hot tub time machine”, and “Mr World” in the Starz series American Gods.
I greatly respect his artistic integrity, and really wish more actors would “think” less with their wallets and more with their minds/hearts

Crispin Glover really does pull off the innocence and unstable nature of Willard, can’t believe that this is the same guy who played George McFly in Back to the Future.
God I’ve always loved this movie, so underrated imo glad it’s getting some recognition now

Crispin Glover is amazing, I love the eccentric personality he has cultivated for himself, it really shines in this film. Agree that it is exceptionally underrated, especially for when CGI was not nearly as advanced...

Joey, I'm only aware of the 1971 release of Willard, with Ernest Borgnine, who played the role of Willard's uncle, and boss. If you like Mr. Borgnine, please follow his traveling videos, accompanied by his son Chris, and a videographer, from the 90a, in his upscale Prevost Motorcoach.

This one of the very, very few remakes that's better than, or at least as good as the original. Mainly dew to the lead. Crispin Glover is a bad ass.
The original is solid but has dated it looks like a made for tv 70s film an the musical score was bad sounding to much like a family film lol But the cast is good an so is the rat action it's a solid film.
Ya think with the advances in tec the remakes would always be better. But humans are so particular about what they want.
This movie is so underrated and I cannot believe it has been almost 20 years since this movie came out. I was 4 when this movie came out, so I was too young to see it when it first came out in theaters. I later saw it in full aged 14 or so and I related to the main character a lot because I myself felt like an outcast and a freak because I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD and never really felt like I fit in with my peers.
The original was awsome with Bruce Davison !!
I know, I also have an Asperger/ADHD diagnose. And I have a mother who could be really verbaly abused, so this is one of the few films I actually could relate!

I'm 28 years old at the time of this writing, and this was the Willard movie I grew up on. I've literally just finished watching the very first one on Peacock, and had no idea it was a remake. The original one was so amazing, and it knocked it out of the park in terms of the story telling etc. The same goes for the Fire Starter movies too. I saw the original one, and the new one via Peacock, and they were both awesome. I wish this Willard was on Peacock too, and I love Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings too. I really need to see this movie again. That theme song perfectly fits the movie. I was 10 years old when this came out.

This was a good movie. I saw it in high school with y mom, my sister, and two childhood friends saw this movie and we all liked it. Me and my sister's friend would mimic his walk really good when he was walking weird with his suitcase.

Amo a willard. Éste film la vi cuando lo pasaban por tv cable en hbo en las noches, a los 12 años mas o menos. No la recordaba mucho, solo recuerdo que me había gustado. Así que la volví a ver en HBO+ y ahora entiendo porque me encantaba tanto. Es muy buena su actuación, la historia es rápida, los detalles (como se ve el pis y la caca de ratón en el piso), cuando mr Martín mata a Sócrates y le dice a willard "whats a matter tiger? A fraid a little blood!" y luego él hace su venganza en el ascensor, le repite lo mismo con sarcasmo y aparte le pega con el bastón, como mismo mató a su amigo, en el ascensor donde el mismo viejo le humilló. O él cuadro de la oficina del, mr martin, que dice "prudent agression" y la cámara baja para que solo se vea "agression". En fin para mi es perfecta. Hay mas detalles. Van 3 veces q la veo y siempre encuentro algo nuevo. No me canso de los dialogos, las reacciones y lo que sucede. Muy norman bates y algo de joker. Me recordó mucho al joker de phoenix, igual cuidaba a su madre, tenían un empleo de mierda, se enamoran de la primera chica que tiene algo de afecto, ambos querian venganza, son considerados desechos sociales, algo neuroticos y terminan en un manicomio. Muuuuuy similares y aparte su crítica al sistema capitalista, la felicidad material y del más poderoso aplasta al más débil. Es perfecta. Y pues creo que su chica perfecta sería May, la película del 2003. Ambos sin amigos. Snifff. me encanta, me encanta 😀

It's a great movie but I wouldn't really call it a horror film more like a character study thriller.

I don't really see it as a horror. I saw it more of a psychological one in a way but I think you put it better than me. I saw both the 1970's original and the 2003 version and liked both. I like the almost gothic style they gave the reboot. I think I saw comments from people who kind of hoped that Tim Burton did it - but I think they were referring to the opening credits (e.g. the music and the stop animation)

I felt so sorry for him at first when I watched this. He just seemed like he was insecure and abused and constantly getting the bottom of the barrel. Not sure why cinema keep trying to make his nose look straighter than it is.

The thing is, Glover was on as a guest and inexplicably got up to do a very wild karate kick... Nearly connecting with Dave's head in the process. The man was (is?) certifiable. As I recall they quickly went to commercial and when they came back Karate Crispin was gone. NEXT!!!

Movie isn't really a horror movie it's more like a thriller the music an such was added to trick mainstream audience into thinking it was a standard killer animal film.
