My highschool professor used to tell us "when learning a foreign lenguage, you have to choose between fluency and accent" If you try to be really fluent and have an accurate accent at the same time, you're gonna fail at either. I think it is recommended to be accurate in terms of grammar, pronunciation and be fluent; accent will come after you have really mastered the basics of the lenguage. That's Marina's problem; she wants to be all that at the same time.
Yeah, first you gotta study Grammar, Phonetics etc... but at the same time you have to practice what you learn so you'll know how to speak, understand, write and read English. Then when you already know basic Grammar and Phonetics and have kind of master on them you can start with phrasal verbs and a lot of practice, and you can learn a lot of phrasal verbs but the best way to memorize them is practicing them in the USA because that's where they use them in context, otherwise you forget them and how to use them in context. To sum up, learning a foreign language takes several stages.
Marina doesn't even care what you are saying about her. She just keeps on going. After your reviews on her channel the number of her followers has even increased. I hope she appreciates it.
We are on the brink of the first-ever teachers' war! War always comes at a cost, and prices will soar. In these costly times, even a B2 level may be out of reach for many. Keep your hearts hard!
He had started the war when going after Lucy. He seems to think, that he, as an American, was born with an English speakers silver spoon in his mouth. Let‘s be considerate 😃
The native speaker and the person whose first language isn’t English can’t really be compared. If you like Marina even though she makes tons of mistakes, let her be your tutor and enjoy classes with her.
@ Not at all ! What makes my hair stand up in rage is: He always is looking down on women. Watch his own courses. The girls have always to play the role of the dummies. He dares to criticize Lucy, a venerable English native speaker because she speaks a decent English instead of his US American and thus calls her speech faulty. He appears to be a rather egocentric person, even a little narcissistic, in my eyes. Maybe he is a good teacher for those who were tortured at school and treated as dump. I am glad, that there are many teachers here on youtube to choose from. Even the natives make some mistakes sometimes, but they are self assured enough to stand to them, and none of them would be picking at a colleague, I suppose.
@winny4765 You sound like one of those so-called “teachers”who’s perpetually disgruntled by Kevin’s videos😉. Omitting articles, distorting sentences, and generally butchering the English language, while presenting themselves as teachers and charging for it, is the behavior of pure scammers. Kevin is not criticizing; he’s correcting the mistakes made by unqualified professionals. One must have a deep understanding of the subject to teach it effectively, as teaching without proper knowledge leads to confusion, misunderstanding, and ultimately, chaos. One more thing, playing the ‘women’ card is completely irrelevant in this case.
Hey guys! First of all, your TH-cam channel is amazing. I couldn't stop laughing when you said: "Why do they call them chopsticks?... I have no idea." 😂😂😂😂 I found something that might answer your question. "The English word "chopstick" may have derived from Chinese Pidgin English, in which chop chop meant "quickly". According to the Oxford English Dictionary. Let us know whether it's correct or not.

"When you're talking about top 10, top 5, top 20, use the article THE" Why didn't you use it in the sentence above, which directly quotes your words? 🤔
That's right everybody speaks with an accent except native speakers. If you wanna speak without an accent, you just gotta live in the USA for at least ten years or more, speaking only English 100% of the time, as simple as that.
Wanderlust does not come from to wander but from the German word Wanderlust. To pronounce a word of a foreign language in the original sound pattern is not wrong. Imagine the mass of French words you Americans struggle with wanting to appear posh but failing.
The word comes from German, in which wandern means "to hike or roam about," and Lust means "pleasure or delight." N.B.: it's pronounced "Vahndehrloost"
In this case "WANDERLUST" is an English word and it means "a strong desire to travel", that's why Kevin said that it comes from the verb "to wander". In this case, it's got nothing to do with the German language. About the fact that comes from German language you'd have to prove it, in the meantime, let's say that's true.
Well, Kevin, I've got a solution and answer at the same time; - when you're driving during the day, you can call it "a sunroof". BUT. - When you're driving at night, you can call it "a moonroof". easy, don't you think ? 😊. What do you think Kevin ?. I'd like to know your point of view.
Hello Kevin. Actually you are very critical about grammar and pronunciation. If you are critical but not angry at people and you are correcting people in a healthy way, it is a very satisfying behavior. The main issue: We can find a lot of grammar books in bookstores and on the internet, but we do not know which one is a source that explains the rules you explained and the American grammar in a critical way. If you do not mind, I would like to ask you to make a suggestion, a video, which US sources and books we should work with. Thank you!
@@suzanmkhitarya8648 Fun fact - there isn’t a standard American English language. We can’t unite a language. You will get a feeling about what is right and wrong. Kevin might correct some minor mistakes. Unfortunately, a language isn’t always flexible. People change the grammar.
" *very critical* *critical but not angry* *correcting people in a healthy way* *a very satisfying behavior* ". Is English your first language? Because you comment is convoluted.
@ Is English your first language? I don’t like this comment because being native doesn’t mean you know your mother tongue inside out, especially, if your expertise field has nothing to do with language. A C2 learner of my native language - Portuguese- knows more grammar and vocabulary than me, unless a native speaker devotes time and energy to expand his/ her vocabulary knowledge, spelling, grammar and right pronunciation. Being native doesn’t mean you are immune to mistakes. Even language teacher can make mistakes. Kevin picks those teachers because they are popular and you can learn English in a proper way. Furthermore, by doing this, he will get more views. A language should be a tool to communicate. Try your best to be a better speaker and never see native speakers like a walking encyclopaedia who knows everything about his/ her mother tongue.
It's good he's critical. It's important to see mistakes. My mother tongue is Russian and we don't have such a thing as articles that's why Mogilko makes so many mistakes. As for me, I like how he explains in detail about countable/uncountable nouns. What's more, I don't like the way Mogilko behaves like she speaks as fluently as a native speaker. She could've been more modest! And not to teach English but just tell about daily American life for example.
@ I know, but he mentioned the pronoun them instead of him. The Russian girl was talking about an Italian man. If we are talking about a man we use he/ him and not them. Why do people mixed up words/ pronouns and adjectives genders with how one identifies? I respect if someone identifies with neuter gender, but why do we have to change the language to fit a minority? English is a quite flexible or neuter language. There are just few words that allow us to differentiate between male and female.
@@TheyoutuberpolyglotYou got the wrong idea. Kevin was teaching us a rule, in case we DON’T know the person’s gender (he said “it could be a boy or a girl, we don’t know), we can say “them”, even though we’re talking about a single person. The topic has nothing to do with any ideologies. Marina said “They” first, but ended her sentence with the pronoun “him”.
