SOS…SOS , I am having a hell pf a time trying to get mine working. I use a Mac Book about 10 years old running Catalina. From the internet I downloaded Cubic software and it started up nicely. My problem is all I can receive is spectral noise and see no pips. It also wont switch to AM mode, its stuck in FM, stations show up on the range bar , but no audio signals are detected. I am at my wits end with this Chinese crap. Does anyone have any suggestions?
@@erin19030 I literally spent weeks and gave up for almost a year then one I decided to try again and after trying 3 times on the last try I ran with administrator privileges and it worked.

Just set up my RTL-SDR following your instructions today and it was quick and painless. Thank you! Only difference for me is that it didn't even attempt to install the incorrect driver at first. It didn't install any driver. The process in zadig was about the same, only difference is the button says "install driver" instead of "replace driver"

I followed all of your instructions to the letter and when I hit the play button I got a message stating "NO DEVICE FOUND". What am I doing wrong?
I had the same issue as well. Launch SDR sharp, and in the top left corner, right click the 3 lines. Then hover over “Source,” then right click “RTL-SDR USB.” Hope this helps!!

Zadig will not run on my computer. And I am not the only one. 100's Of post on forums with ppl who can run sdr because of zadig. Is there an alternative to zadig?
I am not aware of an alternative.
I have had the RTL SDR for 4 years but could never get it to run (despite buying "the book") , until I followed this video. It still doesn't run well, but I guess that's what the book is for. Thank you so much for this. I too found this through the "Tom the Dilettante" vid. Bravo !

I had this program also previously on XP installed and running flawlessly, now new operating system.
Have done everything so, however, with me 07:00 under "Device" nothing at all is displayed!
When pressing the "Play" button appears the message "No device selected", although I had selected 'RTL-SDR (USB).
But now You're my Hero and it works fine for me!

I had to buy the kit from ebay. It was more expensive. But your video got to me. I already downloaded the software. It should be alot of fun for me. I am retired and disabled. I spend my time in my apartment. I developed low blood pressure problems. I can't walk.

Thanks for the video, I just installed, on 5/26/2021 and needed to install the .NET service before it would run, if on Win10, the x86 version worked for me, I would've thought the x64 would be needed as I'm running a 64-bit OS with 32gb RAM, but it wouldn't work until I installed the x86 version. Does anyone know if I missed something as to why the x64 didn't work?

Im so close, i got the program installed but all i hear is white noise, i receive my noaa weather station on my uv-5r but i cant get on the laptop. Any tips im new
3:55 It's best to uninstall and delete the Windows USB driver, in Device Manager, before running zadig.exe. Sometimes things go wrong if you don't. For example, Bias Tee may not work.

Great video. Thank You. I went to Airspy and this is what it said about the drivers. Is this an update? "Airspy is a plug-and-play device and does not require any particular driver installation on Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. You just plug Airspy and Windows will download and install the right driver for you."

I want to thank you for your excellent video on installing SDR#. Unfortunately my Lenovo desktop 3i , running Windows 10, has been totally unable to recognize the RTL-SDR blog dongle. Believe me, I have tried everything to get it seen, but no joy. My next step is going to be converting my outdated MacBook to Linux Mint, and then using it to use RTS- SDR on that platform. In any case, thank you for an excellent video on the steps needed to install RTL-SDR on your computer. Many thanks, and I HAVE subscribed to you.

Thanks for this video.... Upon plugging the dongle in after running the .bat file I don't see the REALTEC device under "Sound, video and game controllers". The device also doesn't show up in Zadig obviously. How do I fix that? Thanks in advance

YYYEEEESSSS! Nailed it. I'm using a brand new lappy, running windows11. All of your steps, work out fine. NB...when I looked at my device manager, it didn't pick the device up as shown, rather it picked it up as 'other'. Just applied the driver to anything that said other and the triangle warning disappeared.....plugged it in.....jobs a good'un!! Thank you Smoking Ape. LEGEND.

FYI, just heard from Youssef (the author of SDR#) that the latest version does not require Zadig when installed on any modern operating system.

I have been quite frustrated in trying to install SDRSharp on my Windows10 PC; from Downloads, Desktop, or elsewhere. How does one verify the .net runtime download🙁? , where should it be installed? Can someone explain? THANKS!

Primarily, I just want something to hear my audio from my station so I can adjust the EQ's without having to ask another operator for something like a "radio check" and otherwise needlessly subject myself to "opinions" of what audio qualities someone else "prefers". The last one I purchased didn't seem to want to work despite following all the directions here that I copied by hand like a secretary taking dictation to ensure doing it correctly. I'm again eager but gun-shy abut buying another one.

Your Device Manager looks a LOT different than mine... I don't have all the junk you have in yours. I only have two High Definition Audio Device and a single USB Audio Codec. That was as far as I could get with your tutorial.
Sorry to hear you had trouble, every computer will look different from device manager as we all have different components.
I had this similar issue too but not because of junk its just because its a fresher install also i too am trying to figure out how to find the dongle in device manager

Would this kind of setup be possible on a Raspberry pi? I'm considering making a portable radio using this device with a raspberry pi and a power cord plugged into a car cigarette-lighter outlet, but I'm not sure how well that would work.
Well I guess I spoke too soon. I have hooked the RTL-SDR to my vertical antenna for ham use and while my Yaesu 950 has great reception on short wave stations sdr sharp absolutely has nothing but slight static. I noticed that on "Zadig" there was not mention of the doogle for the drivers. So i'm thinking there is something missing. Can you help? Thanks

It took a few hours of computer wizardry but I got the app all downloaded, but now when I click on the application, the AIRSPY logo pops up and then nothing happens, what am I missing? Help

Nice video. Could you do a video that describes how to only update SDR# from a prior version without the complete install? For example, how do I save the custom settings such as Frequency Manager Scanner and add them to the new version? I have a 100 or so saved scanner channels and not interested in reinstalling them manually. Thanks
I couldn't get the dongle you demonstrated (lack of supply to buy). I have a NESX SMART dongle. Following the steps I don't see it in my available devices and Windows still sees it as a Bulk-In. Cycling through the devices on the list most error with a (no device found) but some do get static, but I'm not picking up anything on the frequencies I can receive with my UV-5R like 162.400.

i even re extracted the files in case it missed one as straight away in the DOS box i got the following text..its in french as my pc runs French but its translated.

and so it continues, another sdr software download THAT DOES NOT WORK.
I tried SDR sharp out, and it didn't work right. Don't like it. Froze my computer up after I pressed "Stop", and wouldn't switch freqs., or shut down. Had to shut down computer. Wi;; remove SDR sharp, and try and get HD SDR working properly instead. I must admit, it did bring in a local radio FM station, but that was all it would do, without freezing up my computer.
Windows 10 Dell PC shows no USB drivers; presume it is RTL2832 UUSB. Cannot find anywhere on the internet. Nothing works. Any source to find one?

Great fun. Thanks for the video. I currently live in an apartment where I can't set up my HF gear because of proximity to others, though I can run my 160m - 70cm QRP rig. It's nice to have a multi-band receiver right in my primary computer. I've got it on mostly 2m & public service bands & sometimes AM aircraft (I'm under the landing pattern for a major international airport). Again, thanks for the critical info on setting up the correct driver for the RTL-SDR. - 73 de N2NZ

I have tried for weeks to install on multiple PCs with no luck. Cannot find the driver to install. This may have messed up one of my primary computers as well. PC went from download speeds in excess of 200mb to 2 at worst and 80 at best.
Finally I solved a basic problem thanks your video. Just drop the unziped file in the desktop.

I have down loaded from zagdig the drivers RTL2838UHIDR it went into Bluethooth in stead of USB section of device's on windows 10 so when I try to run airspy it saying no device found, please help me I've had this problem a long time. THANKS
As far as I know you can't use Bluetooth.
I realize that but zadig put the drivers in the blue tooth settings instead of the USB section of my computer with windows 10, how can I change it so the program will recognize the USB port?
I've deleted the drivers in the bluetooth section of settings and reinstalled them but the drivers keep loading into bluetooth instead ot the USB section, please HELP!!!!

How do I know what driver was the one assigned when I am going in to Zadig to update the driver? I can't see what is SDR specific in the list.

Is there a way to listen to P25? My local police department using encrypted P25
You can listen to P25 with DSD+, however it will not decrypt and encrypted traffic. It's my understanding it's illegal to decrypt police traffic.
If I screwed up. Then delete everything and re download do think it will still work?

I feel a need to point out that as I write at the end of October 2021, this was posted a year ago. When I ordered my kit, they sent me version 3 of rtl-sdr for $39 plus tax on Amazon. I highly recommend version 3 because it has an SMA connector on the dongle which is more standard. HOWEVER, the software installation process as linked here from is different as well. Similar, yes, but important to know that you can't just follow this video step by step. Instead, typed on the dongle there is a link to a quick start guide, which must be followed to the letter, and may involves downloading additional software.
It was definitely worth the extra hassle though, as not only did FM and 2m work immediately with the cheesy dipole included, but with a $7 male SMA to female pl259 adapter, I should easily be able to hook up the HF and dual band antennas I already have in the shack.

The only change that occurs in the Device Manager after connecting the device is in ''Other devices'' there are 2x 'Bulk-In, Interface', There is no change in the 'Sound, video and game controllers' section. What now...

I dont understand why EVERY software download has missing files, then it says download sutch and sutch file or dll, from a site and tat doesnt work...
you say to load zadig, but the version disponible DOES NOT HAVE THE LIST that you show...
the only option is the usb driver , as list all drivers on my shack pc just screwed the usb interface now i cant even use the pc because it wont recognise the mouse!!!
BRAVO, why not have the required files dll's ect with the software...ive tried three programs and they all require extra bits that either are not findable, or like the one you quote doesnt even work...

Thank you for your video. I had to look at it and the second time i paid more attention and went a little slower and it all worked fine. I'm wondering if this RTL SDR DOOGLE will work with the MLA 30 antenna. I have one but attaching it to the doogle I don't seem to hear anything. Any suggestions will be welcome.
If the MLA antenna is HF you may need to enable q branch.
I will lookout for the decoding of digital signals, if you do a video on the subject.

No, you do not
3rd try with installing this and the driver options do not exist for me. Radio and computers have never mixed and don't work. It's a shame that there's nobody to call for any help. Thanks for the videos and glad you're able to make it work, im returning this unit as it'll never happen for me. Computers make this hobby so frustrating. What a great way to get out of the hobby when stuff seems to work for everybody else, but not me. Sucks but whatever.

It inflated the sdr install file but nothing was ever "installed" I don't have the REALTEK device that yours supposedly installed.

This tutorial is essentially useless since you obviously have a computer setup far different from what I have THere is NO WAY to follow what you are doing.

For some reason I did everything correct, but my RDL-SDR is not being recognized. I downloaded the drivers and everything. I do not know what is going on.
It's usually a driver problem when this happens, good luck getting it sorted out
