Always appreciate these talks about the brass tacks and business. I spent 6 years researching and planning (and made a point to follow as many breeders I like so I can keep up-to-date with what's going on) and now just this year will be conducting my first breeding. Excited for what it brings!
I spent months researching snakes. I only have a few snakes and I’m starting to get into TH-cam but I did enough research to know what morphs I want. I can’t wait to start breeding my own animals though. It’s going to be next year though by the time my females are at size. Great video as always

It doesnt take long for negitive feedback to get around the community and reputation is everything. You can do a 1000 things right but that 1 wrong thing can damage your reputation and push you right out of the hobby...
This is a great series! Quick question. Just finished our first year breeding and one of babies is a morph that I can not find anywhere except that someone created one and its pictured on genetic wizard. How should I figure out its $$ value and also what factors should be considered when deciding to "sell" or "holdback" ?
I was wondering something you might know the answer to. Is Spotnose X Champagne a fatal combo? I have not been able to find a consistent answer in all my reading. Some think it is and others don't. I have seen a few of those on Morph Market that appear to be fine. One of the regulars on here has a gorgeous male Champagne combined with one or two other genes that I'm interested in maybe next after the current female I'm paying off is paid up. I have a female Spotnose Leopard 66% het Clown and before I commit to buying the Champagne male I want to be sure there won't be genetic problems breeding with my Spotnose female. I was originally thinking he'd be a good mate for my Butter Black Pewter female but also think he and my other female would have beautiful offspring if it is safe to try.
I wouldn't. It isn't fatal, I have seen it work. BUT wobble is a thing, and combining any two genes that wobble has higher risk, and a high chance of causing the issue of a much worse wobble. We always talk about the vast majority of spiders being fine. Same with champagne, spotnose, etc. But, combining any two makes it much higher chance of debilitating wobble.
i like the way u just looked at the camera and was like if u dont got a cushion ... UR FUCKED lol i mean its true just the way u said it lol i was crying
@@dobber43 yes they are both visual hets. But the part about in-dom usually meaning a a leathal homozygous form is incorrect. Co-dom actually means roughly half of the area shows patches of the morph in its homozygous state (imagine a genetic 50/50 paradox in het form). While incomplete dominance is more blended rather than patches.
I was watching Kenan the other day and I believe to run his camp cost 800$ month in electric, the guy over at iguana land claimed 6000k a month in the winter. Doing a decent sized bp project like you have do the electric bills get that inflated?
Quality is important. Trusted source is important. Which is likely to be there in 5 years, people like me, jkr, bhb, nerd, or some guy you never heard of with no history? So it can be of value. How much, is up to the customer. Ultimately, they decide

Olympus Reptiles I know that was his and not yours but if insurance doesn’t cover something like your snake collection when your doing it in your basement then having that money set aside would be great to have. Glad all is going well for you. Are you going to the reptile show here in denver Co next week? 22/23?
Also, part of it is on purpose now, before it was just organic. A swear word or two should help TH-cam not say we market to children since we show animals. Marketing to children is now very bad.

FYI
Queen Bee x Pastel Leopard = Gumball
Value can be rare. On something like that I would look at parts in the animal in question, similar combos, etc. How dare are parts? How pretty is it?
How frequently should you feed +1000g Ball Pythons?
About once a week
Going to get a ball python (baby) at an upcoming expo what is a good size tub to start out with? What brand?
Brand on tub isn't a huge deal, more on what fits your rack. 6vquart or do for a young baby

Good subject for its own vid- "genes you should never combine"
We touch on that a bit here, but yes it could be
@@OlympusReptilesyes it was your mention of it in this vid that inspired the suggestion.
@@OlympusReptiles think yall did one
I know this is off the topic from video, but is it true to put chicken broth on a rat to get BP to eat?
Never tried
Someone needs to make a shirt with the definition of co-dom and in-dom
They are both basically visual hets, which is why the dom part is there. In-dom usually means things that are a lethal when there are two copies.
@@dobber43 yes they are both visual hets. But the part about in-dom usually meaning a a leathal homozygous form is incorrect. Co-dom actually means roughly half of the area shows patches of the morph in its homozygous state (imagine a genetic 50/50 paradox in het form). Therefore 99% of what ball python people call co-dom, is actually in-dom.
I was watching Kenan the other day and I believe to run his camp cost 800$ month in electric, the guy over at iguana land claimed 6000k a month in the winter. Doing a decent sized bp project like you have do the electric bills get that inflated?
Not quite that bad, but yes. $400 isn't uncommon
Now on the topic of pricing, what about paying extra for branding and bloodline over the these other guys for the same snake thats less

He is just quiet. But going to make him do a rat vid on the infrastructure part
So the oh shit moment when your buddy’s house caught fire and you have to rebuild?
Wasn't my oh shit moment, but was for him. Honestly, that is near impossible to prepare for. In our situation that would be insurance

Likely not, other obligations. But yes, it does. Nest egg is important
When you use foul language it really is unbecoming! You'd be far more credible eliminating the "F" and "S" words from your dialogue.
Probably not going to do that
