i get your point about Messi making the system work smoothly, but just keep in mind Ronaldo has been part of countless systems, including counter attack, possession, long ball all of it where him being the main man. he worked with many managers with totally different gameplay and philosophy, which all of them turned out to work great. no disrespect to Messi, but he has always been in a same system that complimented his style of play, that wasn't the case for Ronaldo though. it is not just about "mentality" and "winning desire" when it comes to him.
