Henry Island is an island near Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas, India. It is around 130 km (81 mi) from Kolkata. The island is home to millions of red crabs.
Imagine a weekend when you are on a beautiful beach looking at the sunset, away from the monotony of daily life. Your imagination will be real if you come to Henry’s Island, which has become one of the most popular beaches adjoining the Sunderban. Under the supervision of the Fisheries Department of the Government of West Bengal, some 100 hectare land is being used for pisiculture along with forest conservation. A place like this always appears enchanting. There is a watchtower which offers a complete panoramic view of the entire island from its top. The sea here is quite timid and as you walk on the slightly black colored beach, you will see many ships sailing in the distant sea.

How to reach
Henry’s Island is 140km from Kolkata. Buses are available from Esplanade. If you are taking your car then take the Diamond Harbour Road and turn left from Jelighat stop which is some 4 kilometers before Bakkhali. On driving some 1.5 kilometer, you will come across the lodges one by one.

You can take a stroll on the beach and enjoy the sunset and watch the fishing boats sailing in far off sea. You can also get to the watchtower and get the complete panoramic view of the island. Every morning, the government registered fishermen catch fish in one of the bheris. It is a nice experience to see them catch fishes. You can also buy the fresh catch from them at Govt. prices. Henry’s Island has recently earned reputation as a bird watching site. Some of the birds sighted at Henry’s Island are lesser whistling ducks, streak-throated woodpecker, black-rumped flameback, kingfisher, common snipe, red knot and others.
