How come everyone in School of Life has a narrator's voice as sweet as honey?

    • @gothsurferdude

+Iesvilla Lucretius said it made the 'bitter draught' of important yet complex information go down easier. Granted, I think he was talking about using poetry at the time, but I think a calming, gentle voice has the same effect. Dr. Roxburgh and Alain de Botton have mastered this, in my opinion.

Palladio had this beautiful girl's voice in mind when creating calm, harmony and wonder in his architecture..and her face when building simple yet elegant facades.

+The School of Life / Leo Ross That is a great idea. I've always felt I needed a hand, or an ear in appreciating music that hasn't been machined to be "easy" to listen to particularly classical music.

I'm from Padua, and I grant you that this zone of Italy is filled with this kind of architecture: there are lots of "ville", holiday houses for the renaissance nobles or rich merchants who lived in Venice during the rest of the year to make business. If you want relaxing holidays in a sunny, calm place where you can see pieces of art like these, come visit us!

Watching this beautiful lesson, I remembered that on his speech about him, John Armstrong said that Goethe had this need to search for soul mates from the cultural past. And one of his soul mates was Andrea Palladio. It was like having an "imaginary friend". So Goethe would have long conversations with him there inside his head. How very practical! This made me think that if we wanted to adapt Goethe's habit, Hannah would be a great imaginary friend for us too:-) An excellent teacher with such a beautiful mind and pure voice.
In fact, probably as many of us do, I also remember the valuable insights of these lessons always with Hannah's voice.
By the way, for all friends who are as ignorant as myself about architecture, I highly recommend Alain's great documentary " The Perfect Home", which you can find on his other youtube channel.
Here is the line I loved the most from there:
" Beauty is goodness written into matter."

It's interesting to notice that a polymath and an architecht Buckminster Fuller had a similar notion of purpose for architecture but he stated it more clarly. He said, that we need a revolution in design so that we can by its means transform humanity and survive the potential of extinction.

Andrea Palladio (30 November 1508 - 19 August 1580) was an Italian architect active in the Republic of Venice. Palladio, influenced by Roman and Greek architecture, primarily by Vitruvius, is widely considered to be the most influential individual in the history of architecture. All of his buildings are located in what was the Venetian Republic, but his teachings, summarized in the architectural treatise, The Four Books of Architecture, gained him wide recognition. The city of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
