@@kcoutdoorsmissouri4052 that’s great 😎 I was hoping to go shed hunt all this week but I got mandatory overtime here at work my only day off will be Friday I hope I can make it out at least for couple hours 😜 good look on your next hunt I will be waiting for the video!
Can you train a doberman pinscher to be a shed dog being they are a loyal breed and like to please their owner? I want a hunting dog so bad but I love the companionship dobermans have. Labs are great just not my style personally
Without us seeing the shed, probably around 10 percent of the sheds the dogs find are ones we don't see first. That being said, we let the dogs pick every shed we find to build confidence and understanding. The more experience the dogs have on the real thing, the more we find they pick sheds prior to us seeing them.
For sure, I think any breed can do this, some may have a different method though. I've seen malinois and shepherds be great retrievers. I've also seen pointing dogs that naturally point them. It's all in getting the dog to connect the shed with a reward. For retrievers, it's the retrieve. It's our job to teach the dog that the shed is something to be found and retrieved!
The sheds we find on our farms we keep, using them as scouting tools, following specific deer from year to year, and its just plain cool to match sheds year to year on specific deer, especially if you are able to harvest that deer. The shed hunting itself is a time we use to scout areas that we normally wouldn't go in to. This helps us to get better ideas of how deer are using our property, and ultimately become better at hunting them.

Nice video. My son just bought home a German Shorthair pup today. I’ll let him know about the video. Thank you for sharing
Looks like you had another great day with the dogs. I can't wait to be able to shed hunt again, our public land is still closed.

Think a Belgian Malinois/Dutch Shepherd mix would be good at this?

@@DogBoneJeremyMoore that’s so good to hear! Thank you so much, I think I’ll give it a go!
so what the purpose of shed hunting? do you sell them or what you do with them?
