      I just started using Differin about 1 week ago. Bought it at WalMart on another person's recommendation. I like it so far, but it has brought forward a few cystic issues on my face. Will continuing to use the Gel on the cystic acne help it go away? Or is it a "reaction" to the differin? I can't really tell, because I haven't had bad cystic acne on my face for almost 10 yrs! That wasn't why I bought the gel; I bought it for controlling wrinkles & pores. So now I'm wondering, did I do the right thing? It is a huge cyst at the end of my right eyebrow, of all odd spots. The rest of my face is doing very nicely. And also, I didn't know I could use a Vit C, exfoliator, and moisturizer OVER the differin! Is that OK to layer? Sorry for the long question! LOL

I just started using CeraVe 2 months ago. My acne is gone. Right now I'm just working on my dark spots. Use this cleansers with the Noxzema acne blemish pads, twice a day. Alyssia Whalen Hi, what do you think did the trick for your acne scars?

    • @jessikim2743
      @jessikim2743 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jenny Pham rosehip oil, glycolic acid, tea tree oil, and witch hazel is what’s helping me without going to the doctor

    • @alyssiawhalen4209
      @alyssiawhalen4209 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jenny Pham definitely all the chemical exfoliants. I would recommend tes tree if you have a pimple or something like that but not on your scars because it’s a antibacterial (I’ve had a few formations on skincare and I actually work in a drugstore. In canada, you can find lancome, estee lauder or even caudalie in the drugstores). Vitamin C was also a great investment. I’ve tried a few (drunk elephant, sunday railey, volition). Also, the night repair from estee lauder is so great! People that have done chimiotherapy use this, it’s great for hydration, calm irritation, prevent aging, help you scar better too!

    • @jessikim2743
      @jessikim2743 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jenny Pham do you mean hyperpigmentation? If so, glycolic acid and vitamin c. I use tea tree bc it has helped my hyperpigmentation and acne, I don’t use glycolic bc it irritates my skin way too much.

    • @alyssiawhalen4209
      @alyssiawhalen4209 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jessi Kim yeah me too glycolic was sooo aggressive on my skin. I have super sensitive skin but eventually, my skin got use to this. Using AHAs BHAs really prevent my skin from breaking out but also because it exfoliate my acne scar got better. Maybe it’s only me but it really helped😂 also retinol helped but it was way to strong for me

    I do want to add though that Differin still needs more research to support its use for anti aging. There hasn’t been any long term studies last I checked. If you really want to use what’s backed by decades of research, go with tretinoin

    • @skinsciencebymira
      @skinsciencebymira 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Robyn Schweizer Curology has made tretinoin much more accessible and affordable but also I think people forget that a regular doctor can prescribe it too and it’s also prescribed through many med spas. Agreed, great stuff and the gold standard for a reason.
      You know just based off of research, I would go with adapalene (brand name Differin) for acne and OTC retinol for anti aging if tretinoin wasn’t an option. Retinol still has extensive research showing its benefits for treating the signs of aging and prevention and it will still undergo an oxidation reaction and become retinoic acid eventually just like tretinoin. Adapalene is a little different because it’s a synthetic naphthoic acid derivative and while it shares many of the same receptors as tretinoin, it has a higher affinity to some specific retinoic acid receptors most commonly found in epithelial cells which is largely why it’s so fantastic for acne - it’s anti-inflammatory and modulates cellular keratinization. It has a low skin absorption rate though and really stays in the epidermis and the hair follicles which helps it target acne but not necessarily skin aging - tretinoin is so effective because it’s really getting into the dermis where we see collagen loss with age.
      I love my tretinoin but I actually often switch back to OTC retinol as needed. I really see a lot of benefits from glycolic acid and Vit C (L-AA specifically) and will often experience too much irritation when I combine those with tretinoin where I can use them just fine with retinol. So I’ll go back and forth depending on the time of year and what I’m focusing on.

    • @SusanYara
      @SusanYara 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mira Parker Thanks Mira! And I agree about switching between tretinoin and retinol. My skin gets pretty irritated on the prescription so it’s nice to give it a break.

    • @skinsciencebymira
      @skinsciencebymira 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Susan Yara I know it’s a tough trade off! Tretinoin really is the gold standard but I do miss my AHAs when I’m on it and my skin is just never as beautifully hydrated and glowing as it is when I’m using my OTC retinol and AHA combo. So it’s a trade off and I try and follow a schedule and use them both. It’s nice to use retinol over tretinoin in the summer too when I’m exposed to so much more sun.

    I’m bummed because I’m looking for a new oil cleanser but the Neutrogena one is not Fragrance free. If you look at the ingredients it is listed. I guess I’ll just stick with my straight mineral or sunflower oil. I’ve tried the Hada Labo one but think just plain oil works better for me. If anyone has a great oil cleanser with no fragrance, please suggest! Thanks!

      I don't think it would be a problem, you should still ingest your daily dose of vitamin c, topical application is completely separate from that. Plus it's really hard to overdose on vitamin c, the body just gets rid of the excess (you'll pee it out lol), so you shouldn't worry about it 😃

    Susan, I greatly appreciate the work you put into this video as with all of your videos. I will check out a lot of these products! Is this your current daily night routine or do you think these products are still subpar to the more expensive ones featured in your previous videos? A general question, have you ever found yourself sneezing from using some products? Herbal Essence and CosRx Good Morning cleanser make me sneeze! Could you elaborate on why you said that Mg is missing from our diet nowadays? Finally, i wanted to point out one thing, that I think you should say that the oil cleanser "dissolves" your makeup, not "melt" it, because your makeup is oil-soluble.
