I get the idea of wanting to get it done. But honestly, and not hating on ya. I love your videos.(Just an old timer that's trained quite a few critters in my day and trying to help by sharing whatever learned in 50 or so years.), you'll get further along and do it faster in the long run, by not snubbing to a post, losing the spurs (at least until they are used to being ridden. Then tack 'em back on if you like), and lose the Tom thumb bit. Those are horrible. They're not even good on a trained horse. Let alone an unbroken one. And put the dog away until the mule is used to you on it's back. Too much stimuli for it when everything is happening at once.
Once it's used to you on it, then of course bring in stuff it will have to deal with.
To each his own, and best of luck.
Just letting ya know some tidbits that's helped me through the years.
Sure like that reply. Can’t disagree with anything you said. Those Tom Thumb bits are horrible on any horse or mule. Even a normal broken mouth snaffle can be harsh in the wrong hands. I quite prefer a mullen mouth snaffle.
I agree 💯, thank you for your education and kindness. I’ve never seen someone tie up their horse/mule to a fence to “control” bucking or to get them used to being mounted, I’m not a professional by any means but I’ve been riding for over a decade never seen this done. This scared me to death cuz what if that mule broke the fence and hurt himself or his rider? All I could think of is this mule might now associate being tied up as a scary negative thing even if he’s just being tied to tack up. And the spurs yikes….the saddle girth already feels odd to the mule why add spurs to the mix at that point? Again I am not a professional, please correct me or help me understand the WHY’s behind what was being done.
Disclaimer: I don’t mean any disrespect to this man, I actually really enjoy his videos I’m just curious on the methods and I also understand that some training techniques aren’t a size fits all situation.
This could break anything in so fast but honestly starting slow you will get want you want in the future but please don’t tie them to the fence you will get severely hurt
I am liking your channel and I realize you are probably working out of a camp somewhere instead of at your home. But, why oh why would you want to rush your critter this way? That ol' snubbin post method has gotten a lot of people hurt. You have on spurs, a shank bit, dogs running around, obstacles, and no soft surface for a landing. I am not hating on you pard. Getting cripple or dead can last a lifetime. Me, your wife, your family, and everyone in TH-cam land want to see you make videos for many years to come. Stay safe!
Same I say get those damn dogs out of there!
Spurs are cringe! YT suggested this I didn't think they still used these in 2019 :(
Yep.....he set that mule up for failure, not success....
YOUTH is a wonderful thing! Good man and good horseman - when I was his age I didn't care about those things either, cause hittin the ground - or a post - was no big deal. Now it's 3 days - or more - to recover 😊
To all you couch trainers - listen to what he says.
That mule is the loudest drinker I've ever heard lol
Toisty, I'd say, manners be damned.
Cuz she's trying to drink with a bit in her mouth
Sounds like me getting hammered
I don't know nothing about nothing but it seems the dog needs to be removed instead of running around distracting the mule.
j rob they should be used to the dogs I’m not saying it’s smart to have the dogs running around like that especially around a colt but I mean when they herd there cows there are dogs running around and helping them so they have to get used to them someway but yeah I agree plus the dog could be kicked or stomped on
That Service Duo
Mules are not horses, so true. We had a bucking mule and it was a lot of work to get through to him. Not without bruises and a bloody nose on my part. They can be clever and tenacious. If you don’t like that a mule is not for you.
j rob you are very right sir... you know nothin about it so don’t comment
A lot of horse- and mule-trajning videos have a dog sniffing around, ignoring commands to "come here," displaying how the trainer failed at training the dog. It's no biggie, but teachers are generally held to a higher standard than us non-teachers. I'm watching the video to learn. In this case, I'm learning how to do it wrong. I can still learn to do it right, but I have to understand the situation I'm observing.
Sometimes when I’m breaking a horse I purposely bring my dogs out, it’s good for them to be used to dogs and be very dog broke.
Tying a horse to a fence to mount it while breaking them is extremely dangerous!
Not if you do it right. There is no one way to do it. Stay in your lane
@Khalil Khalil when did I say your name?
For everyone saying it is fine, many horses and mules have gotten their legs caught in the rope or in the fence using this method. Horses have died from this.
What would have happened if that mules front legs had gone through the rails while it was tied to the fence and was tearing up? I realize that is one way to “break” your mule/horse; I personally don’t think it’s the best way.
Good idea but you just have to keep working them until they get to tired
@Nichole Burney actually if you work them enough then you can finally jump on them and just take it from there because their to tired
@@xxarity9995 that takes no skill or training that's called learnt helplessness where you exhaust them so much they have no energy to fight, doesn't teach them all the skills they should know before you get on and doesn't teach them not to be scared, it has no consideration for the horse and their safety, jumping on their back so they go into complete survival panic mode wont teach them anything but to fear when someone gets on them
I agree. I saw the colt and instantly realised you were too big, then saw the fence, and it was obvious he didn't trust you or you hurt him.
@Millenium Serenity Townsend , I am not a rich horse person. I have lost four of my horses to a drought and I ride with thin ropes and can hardly afford much. My horses look like wild animals, and I am definitely not a pro. But I do know when a horse is hurt, or scared, and I do know what I'm doing. I'm sorry if I offended you in some way, but I speak for animals. I have seen good foals trained like this, and one of our horses was treated just like this and it took him years to trust us and he had such bad back problems, that I ended up killing him. He was given to us free since everyone saw a broken old horse, but every time I exercised him, he was cheery and loved every moment he spent with his friends and living free among the paddocks. Another one of our horses was sold to us drugged and we soon saw her scars that had cut deep. I am glad that it was nothing that hurt her seriously physically, but mentally, its bad. She has kicked me at my head and if it was an inch closer, I could have been really hurt. She is scared of anything metal or being in any small space, and I know that she would love to only wear a halter and never see a bit again. My little brother got a pony when he was 8, and I'm glad he had not been in a bad place long, but he was so scared there, that he had never lay down.
I want to save every horse I can from a short death due to people not seeing what's real.
Every horse deserves to grow old with his friends in a big field. Spending the cold days with his friends in a warm stable with warm feed and blankets, and the hot days under the shady apple trees playing with his friends, remembering the people they have met and they adventures they had.
I wish that my horses could have lived a long life like that, but they never did.
If you have a horse, go see him or her, and tell them you love them.
Keep them save, and far from harm. Let him rest under the apple trees and near the other horses.
Every horse needs a good life, because the first horses could have killed any man, but they chose to love them and help them. Now they have no choice, but do it willingly.
Millenium Serenity Townsend your ways and English are disgusting learn respect for what's right we don't need another "country folk tooting up my dem comment section hahah jeehawww!!" Please do learn respect and earn a little bit of knowledge
You done good. Once they tense up and buck, the impact with the ground is jolting. Young horses and mules are for the young at heart. Enjoy y’all videos. Keep them coming.
u may not care about my opinion but here it is..
When breaking in a horse or mule you start slow. If the animal moves under your pressure reward it..
That's what he said lol
ThAnk u
country boy no
He literally said that’s not the right way to do it and he usually doesn’t do it like that
Max Sanchez then my did he do it like that
It's good that you go back and check what went wrong very helpful when I do it
I hate when I have to sneeze on a unbroken horse
lol
Same
Ha ha that mule drinking. Doesn’t know how with the bit in. Funny!!
Did anybody other than myself have to hit rewind? Don't be embarrassed I doubt if anybody was watching and if they were I'm sure they didn't laugh wait! What?
Background above the trees looks like a painting
YES!!
As an ex paramedic I have taken 4 professional cowboys to the hospital . Two of them are still sitting in their wheelchairs drooling into a cup. If they had ben wearing helmets they would still be riding. It fascinates me that cowboys who have the guts to get up on rank broncs are too chicken shit to wear a helmet. Not enough balls to go against convention.
Then you haven't seen enough cowboys.
How many car accident patients are sitting in wheel chairs that.???
@@susaneparaima4843 the ones who drove without seatbelts 😉 I always when a helmet after losing a freind who fell off her horse "only" bumping her head slightly...3 days later she was dead. 😢
Wow. That was a nasty little turn. I'd have gotten planted right there....
For that reason I don't like or use American saddles. and after one falls from the mules they want to keep doing it. that's why nothing better than the SONORA SADDLE my friend. Good job riding and working with mules.
Congratulations, you did everything required to teach that mule to buck.
So I think it I funny how everyone who comments all of the sudden is a horse/mule trainer but I doubt very seriously if any of them have ever really done it. I love all your videos and I have personally decided just to step on one just for the heck of it!!! Keep it up.
Groovy mule footage! Great video as always!
hey really looking forward towards the video your going to make on how to properly get on a mule so it doesn't buck you off.
Listen I really respect what you do and I think you do a lot of things right with your mules, but this one was a bad move in my opinion. rushing into breaking like this is not the way to go no matter if it's your mule or not. And tying her up to the fence like that when you got on her could have been extremely dangerous. I was glad to hear you say you do know how to do it correctly, but it only made me wonder why you didn't stick to the correct method instead of rushing and potentially causing more issues. In terms of everything else, keep it up man, just learn from this experience and make sure your mules are actually ready to be ridden before you hop on them.
You are so objective and kind to him. Well said. I agree 💯 percent.
Great answer. A least you made your good points without being nasty, rude or dispespectful . I also absolutly agree with what you wrote.
Next time dont tie him to the fence he can hurt himself
Alicia Holmes it’s true but they needa learn how to get used to being tied up on fences
@@myapmya yeah but not while being broken in. that was a seriously dangerous move
Guys I think he knows what he’s doing
Victoria Brooker he sure does, but this was just a very dangerous thing to do. Everyone makes mistakes, just hope he’s learnt from it :)
Victoria Brooker say it again😂😂😂
I really hope you don’t take those views for granted! I don’t think you could get used to it but if you have stop and take a look around you. Wow. My view is all of my neighbors houses. Lol.
Yes, the views are gorgeous and the quietness. I'm so jealous!! I'm 40 mins outside of Dallas and that's one thing I love about being further out is the stillness and the sky full of bright stars. I can only imagine their night skies but I might be a lil scared of what's lurking in all those trees. lol
The mule is going to drink that creek dry....super gulper !
Thank you for being so brave and patient. I love mules. Really want to own one. But worried they just might be smarter then me and will tske advantage.I trail ride. Long slow distance. Been riding for 60 yrs. I know mules are different. Would love a kind and gentle one. Are there those kinds out there?
I just found your channel so I haven't seen all your vids, do you raise your mules or buy them?
A little bit of both. We have our own jack and brude mares.
I really do see you on every video for example Craig Cameron, Clinton Anderson, Our Wyoming life, Reed Flake, now Broncs And Donks, and one more ranching channel that trains and does ranch work but the most recent video I seen was them training the 3 colts maybe you know who I'm talking about but I really do see you on ever video we have the exact same taste 😂
It's not embarrassing to get bucked off lol it happens to everyone I grew up training horses and mules and fixing messed up ones and I've been planted several times all in a day's work lol. Great channel
Ditto, I've come off and over many times and I fancy myself experienced as a trainer...LOL But I've gained a lot in humility.
I am no expert but I think it was the spurs, when you watch back it is when you put your leg on she starts bucking. then you kept your leg on to grip and the she really bucked.
Good job Ty!
Why did you have them tied tot he fence? Is that to stop them from flipping over? I never seen one broke before so curious
So many things you did so wrong trying to break that mule 🤬 spurs, tying it to the fence, and so much more
Millenium Serenity Townsend sorry yes we have different methods that doesn't mean it's right like this guy
Millenium Serenity Townsend they behave out of fear and just because lots of horses have been trained like this doesn’t make it right! And u will never have a good relationship with the animal
Dang... You ride 🤠 cowboy!
Brazil i love mules😍❤
Iae eu tbm
Sou muladeiro do Goiás
everyone is the comments swears they’re the “best horseman” just let this dude break the mule the way he wants lol
Not when it is dangerous for the mule and riding
@Millenium Serenity Townsend I agree.
The secret to riding a buck is... to beat them to the ground- if you are set in the saddle ready for the jump.
Guys why is everyone so stupid in the comments to train a mule you have to put a knife in it mouth yank it until he bleeds put 2000 pounds on his back until he gets a swayback then put scissors on your boot and dig it into the animal, ugh some people treat their mule nicely it's disgusting
That mule has a very good bucking technique
that’s one beautiful mule
Loved this! Now maybe I have a tricky one for you... Could you please please please do a video on how to break a mini mule or mini donkey. Since an adult is to heavy to get on how do you break them the correct way for a kid to ride them?;?;
I love seeing this even though there are ways to do it slower. Still eductional. Thanks for sharing even though you knew you would get judgement from some.
Mules do that, haha 😂
Very good job dude where do you live that place looks beautiful maybe one day I could take a vacation out there
Greetings from Western Montana and great job on that mule! Where abouts are you located? Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Oregon ?? Thanks
We are from Utah
i have been on Jacks that like to go all out running not bucking they just love to run just have to hang on, and others that will tend to try to take you off by making a quick turn into a cedar tree
Ha,ha,ha… that was the right way .
By the looks of it, the Mule seemed to be more spooked and worried with the 2 dogs..???
Yeppers. It was the dawgs
TH-cam recommended this channel to me and it's awesome. Thank you for the videos. I live in Cali in a city so no Broncs or Donks for me.. but I can still live vicariously through your awesome videos.
You were ripping. That mules face of!!
Actually no he wasn't so stop hating on him and he is a expert at this so shut up
@virginia wakefield what do you know about mule training? The only pressure on its face was a rope halter that was connecting to the reins. Open your eyes up.
As far as I saw he was mainly loose reining, and trying to keep it from putting its head down, which is what you do when you are on a horse or mule thats known to buck.
Be careful next time when you tie her up and mount because she came too close to catching his legs in the fence. She'd bust both legs and that'd be it for her.
I'm happy I came across your channel. Where about are you at? Montana maybe? Gorgeous.
IF don’t think that the dog is helping anything.
What would you say is the difference between mule personalities and horse 's?
Thats some beautiful country. Love it
Oh boy that mule is really drinking the water. Do they get colic as easily as horses or founder?
They don't founder or colic near as bad as horses.
hi! i just wanted to say some things. i am in no way hating on you or correcting you, but just trying to give you some advise. first of all, it is in no a shame to fall of a horse/donkey/mule etc. like you say in the description, it happens to everybody! it is proof you've at least tried. now, i don't know how many times you've sat on her already, but i would like to adivse, that taking it the slow way usually is more succesful. of course, i don't know the whole backround story and i can't decide for you what to do! like you said, you just hopped on and it wasn't the most smart thing to do, i guess, but that's okay. also i don't ride western so i can't judge at all, but these were just a few things i had on my mind! ciao
Kiki van Ettro finally, someone that did constructive criticism:)
Ok but why is the mule connect to the fence...
Where is this? The background is so beautiful 😍.
I think it might be in Wyoming, or Utah. Not entirely sure, just judging by the way the mountains look
I think Utah
Nice video, Thank you. ) That would be a video worth watching; How to get on a young mule? Where is this beautiful countryside?
Thank you! Eastern Utah
@@BroncsAndDonks i would love to come ride with u it just i don't have a horse and it would be a dream to work with u
I'm surprised you stayed on so long. Lol. Is this the mule you roped in an earlier video? Sucking a lot of air.in the creek.
you are da man!! lol your awesome at staying on though id be off after 2 seconds flat
Was this filmed at the Olsen Ranceh in Joe's Valley?
Sure was!
You jumped on to tell her " WHO'S YOUR DADDY " !!!!!
Good ride bro just need tighten up your reins a little bit
Way cool video. Mules are cool too.
Cannot believe you mounted with that mule tied! Do your groundwork and then mount in the middle of the roundpen with someone holding the lead rope. That was a major wreck in the making.
yyou areeeeee killiiiingggg meeeeeeeeee
We call young work hoses stags in the UK enjoyed the action ...lol
So many armchair buckeroos here. I guess Monty must not be doing videos for them to watch
You said you brought a colt with you, but that was a filly ? Or did you bring two of them, a colt and a filly?
Nobody:
The mule: Aight ima freak out
Hmm I completely agree I wonder why a mule that has never been riden, never had a person sitting on them, and being tied up to a fence would just freak out like that.
Aoss mininoooo 🐝🐝
Mules buck so fricking dirty. Didn't buck hard but man, dirty.
With a mule, it's not a matter of if you will get kicked or struck, it's a matter of when. Mules are a wonderful animal. I wonder what he or she is going to do next. Just be careful, take your time and good luck.
I like Myler bits on horses. Read their bit book. Don't know about mules.
I’m confused... you’re saying it’s a colt but calling it “her” and “she”.
Does colt mean something different in the states?
@Natalie RAZEY yeah I know that, but he refers to the mule as “she” but he calls her a colt numerous times.
For example at 3:35 he says;
“I knew *she* was gonna buck, I just wanted to get on *her* and get it out of *her* “
Pretty sure from watching this guy's content that he knows what he's doing without all you commenters who don't post videos telling us all the correct ways to do everything
We're not saying he doesn't know what he's doing. And he's posted the video for comment. So what's the problem?
Nothing to be embarrassed about. Getting bucked off is part of the job. As the old adage goes: ain’t a horse (mule) that can’t be rode, and ain’t a rider that can’t be throwed.
That's a real good mule you got lol
I have two ponies that I'm training by myself .🐎
That mule is very calculating. That cut to the left was really unexpected, it would have probably dumped me.
I hope to have a ranch in Montana or Arizona one day taz would love the cattle ranch life he’s so hyper! When I get him broke I wish I could join y’all for a cattle drive!
Just subed love the vlogs
Love your videos, we don't have mules in Ireland.
They are much smarter than horses, and can be real stinkers to train.
You have a lot to learn.
He messed when he gave the horse time to Recat
Nice nice guerito
Where r y'all located?
I WANNA GET ME ONE OF THEM DONKEY HORSES.
2:50 awwww shit😂
Hold on to that horn my friend
Only pussy do that
I CANT BELIEVE YOU TRUST YOUR LIFE WITH THOSE STIRRUPS.
Right when that mule stopped bucking and calmed down I would have gotten off as a reward. There was a moment where the mule took a big breath and the dude should have ended it there
You should take that mule to the pump hunting
How many mules do you have
É isso aí vaqueiro chega as espora aqui no Mato Grosso aqui no Brasil aqui tem uma mula desse jeito aí o Ladeira
Aki no Goiás e pior!
🛑 "if you are not bucking your Mule the RIGHT WAY and still use the conjunction "but" as an after thought #STOP #OSHA_SAFETY_WARNING 🐴
Damn with the size difference that mule should be riding him. Guy also seems to be confused on what a colt is, colts have balls, fillies have vulvas.
Oh yeah, don't forget to stay loose... Dave Stamey
