Beautiful 44, Christian!
You’ll appreciate that full underlug
👉🏼💥
It really makes a huge difference
Shot it the other day. It’s a handful, but very manageable. Shot a cylinder of .44 Special and those were so soft shooting.
I'm so jealous❤ That girl is beautiful and you know I love revolvers. Congratulations and excellent review.
Thanks brother! You know I’ve been wanting another revolver for a long time. Still might grab another .357mag… I sure miss the 2 I owned but sold.
@@ChristianGrestif you love a Smith and want it to compliment this 44 mag of yours, then get the Smith 686.
629-1 was my 3rd pistol purchase. 8 3/8" barrel. 😊
I've since inherited a model 29 Nickel plated, also 8 3/8" barrel.
The Monogrip will make shooting more fun.
Yes sir, already got a mono grip installed. Man that nickel plated 29 must look sweet!
@@ChristianGrest It, like the Charles Daly, were neglected. The finish has some scratches, as it has taken many boar, deer, and even a prairie chicken.
Kept in a plastic, foam lined case, uncleaned or oiled for 15+ years.
It had a Bushnell Halosight on top, and the original rear sight is long gone.
There are only one or two "safe queens" amongst my family. If you have a need, buy a tool and use it... otherwise, there is always something else requiring your attention, money, and time.
Beautiful wheel gun. I’m definitely a S&W wheel gun fan as well.
Thanks! This one was a long time coming. I miss some of the other Smiths I used to own.
@ChristianGrest Nice video and definitely a beautiful revolver. I highly recommend you getting into reloading. Ammo keeps getting harder to find for the big bores. It's much more expensive as well. For reloading stay away from the cheap lee moulds. They are aluminum and don't form too well. Get the RCBS moulds. Get a 255 grain 44 magnum if you can. You will need to buy the handles separate. Now I am not knocking the Smith revolver by any means, I am just telling the truth about it. Smiths cannot handle the heavier grain bullets and hotter loads. Unfortunately they break or blow the gun apart so definitely don't shoot or reload Buffalo Bore +p+'s through it lol. In my personal opinion for a Smith, the best 44 magnum reload is a 255 grain bullet with 22 grains of Winchester 296 powder. That's more than enough power that the Smith can handle safely. Anything more, your asking for trouble. Like for example H110 powder is too hot for the Smith. If you want to get into crazy nasty loads, that's what a Ruger Redhawk is for.
I am not a huge fan of revolvers but that 1 looks pretty slick. Nice choice.
Thanks brother! I had this one on my radar for quite some time. Always nice to go back to a classic.
Mine came with hogue grips. Beautiful gun
I love the smith and wessons especially the model 29 but to see it in brushed steel it looks beautiful 😊
Absolutely! I haven’t polished it like I originally was thinking. It’s been one killer revolver, love it! Thanks for watching!
Gotta love a Smith & Wesson. 🤠👍
Oh yes, yes I do 😊
Very beautiful weapon👍🏻
Thanks 😊
That 629 is an absolute beauty! The only blemish is the lock hole. I like the satin finish and would not go the polish route. I actually like the blued or black parkerized finish myself. Can't wait to see the range videos!
Thanks! Yea wished they’d get rid of the lock… such a stupid thing. Some of the newer models don’t have it, but most of them do. Yea I like a good blues revolver as well!
That is one beautiful revolver Christian
Thanks brother 🙏
What a beautiful revolver.
Thanks!
@@ChristianGrest I was looking at the Colt python as well. I have a Colt King Cobra.. Colt's are beautiful, but so expensive. When I watched your video, I really like the 629 deluxe. I may get this one. Is it a big frame?
@@FlipFlopandFly it’s an N frame so yea just under the X frame the 460/500 pistols use. Those colts sure are nice! I’ve done a little bit of work to this one to drop the trigger weight a tad bit. It’s such a smooth shooter. .44 Special loads are super soft shooting, but even .44 magnum loads are pretty comfortable. I did swap the grips out though for Hogue grips.
@@ChristianGrest Thank you so much. I will get the 629. later down the road the Python will be next
Man she’s a Beaut!
Thanks brother! She shoots great too 😊
Just picked one up on sale. There not moving them as fast as they were. Nice video
Appreciate you stopping by. Congrats on the new revolver! Yea I've noticed availability seems to be much better than when I picked mine up. Man it's been a nice one...love shooting it!
Got a 629 Classic myself. Also a 686-1 and a 15-3.
I’d love to snag another 686. Miss the one I used to have.
I’ve used Flitz for years to polish stainless. Colgate toothpaste also works in a pinch.
I do have some Fitz!
Use Crest with scope for hunting revolvers with optics
LMAO 😂 😂 😂 @@meatballs2849
Great looking revolver 👊🇺🇸
Thanks brother! Now to start reloading for it.
@@ChristianGrest that’s the fun part 👍
@@jesseboutdoors didn’t want to bother reloading .44mag for just my Dads Marlin, but now that I have 2 firearms using that caliber, it’s on!
She is a beauty for sure. I used to have a Ruger RedHawk stainless and killed a few deer with it before sold. Congrats
Thanks! Maybe I’ll try my hand deer hunting with it. Haven’t decided yet.
@@ChristianGrestyou're short changing your experience with this revolver if you don't hunt with it!!! If you put meat on the table with it, then you will really connect with it!!!
HANDgun?? No...MANgun...😉👍🏼That's what Big Boys shoot.
💪 for sure!
Very beautiful gun ! I’m torn between getting this one or the redhawk.
Thanks! Loved this one so much I picked up a Performance Center 629 2.5”. The Redhawk is an awesome choice as well. Let me know what you end up getting. Thanks for watching!
You know 44 is a favorite of mine Really wish Smith would get rid that dang hole already long overdue. Flitz will work If you decide to polish
I knew you were a revolver guy! I plan on reloading for it…. Ammo is a tad scarce. Yup the hole is so dumb. I do have some Fitz. Not sure how much polishing I’ll do, might just brighten it a little.
@Christian Grest if you cast I have multiple molds and you welcome to borrow them
@@ThecrazyScotsman I sure appreciate it. Unfortunately I’ve never got into casting, but there seems to be a decent number of bullet types available.
@Christian Grest There's tons of options and since you use suppressors just a whole nother ball game as far as loading for those firearms
I have the same gun. How many grain bullet do you think it can shoot ?
So far I’m sticking with the 240 grain but would like to get the bear shots at 300 grain
I’ve shot anywhere between 185 to 240gr. I believe it’ll shoot the 300gr loads as well, but I’ve not tried any.
You just wanted to feel like Dirty Harry didn't you? 🤣
🤣 that thought crossed my mind!
I shoot this one same model just fine. Recoil is perfectly manageable with the right grip, one or two handed just fine
Absolutely! I’ve shot it a good bit now and it’s a joy to shoot. Swapped out the grip for a rubber grip.
@ChristianGrest nice. I kept the original grips and Lucy (i name my guns) is such a sweet shooter. Take good care
@@59jkappelman perfect name for this revolver as well.
Help me out guys. Im debating on getting the s&w 629 deluxe .44 mag, or a colt king cobra target .357. Which one would be the better bang for the buck?
That’s a tough one. For me it would come down to caliber. Love the .44! But both are dang nice!
I wouldn't even bother changing those wood grips to be honest you can shoot full House 44 magnets of that and even with the wood grips on this pistol it's still more comfortable to shoot than a Ruger Redhawk
I hear ya!
Which is funny because I do have a 7.5 inch Ruger Redhawk 44 mag!!! Lol and it's not uncomfortable to shoot either, just more rugged and not quite as smooth, although not far off, but my Smith 6.5 inch 629 classic deluxe is definitely a bit smoother!!! I won't shoot the stupidly heavy 300+ grain ammo in my smith. I'll save that beating for the Ruger!!!
@@Wildwestwrangler I’m considering a Ruger New Super Blackhawk in SS in 44 magnum.
what was the point of buying it with wood grips if your just gonna screw it up with black rubber grips
I like having the option of going back to the wood grips. All of my revolvers have both wood and rubber.
Again I'm thinking you gotta send this MBKs way. This would shoot any sig out of the water. Beautiful revolver. Pricey? Good bear/backwoods gun? I like their little 1.5" barrelled revolvers. Was thinking about getting one for the truck for 2 legged predators.
Pretty sure Steve has at least 1 revolver. I’d like to pick up a shorter barrel version at some point.
Yeah he's got an r8
@@curtisdrakesr4900 for some reason I thought he had a Smith 500mag.
In an Alaskan or kenai gunfighter chest rig this would make an awesome bear gun
Hey did you get that from Brownells?
Not this part one, but they do have some 629 in stock I believe.
Yea, just checked...they have them.
How much did it cost you
These run around 1k or slightly more. Depends on the deal you find.
$1099 in my neck of the woods.@@ChristianGrest
@@ChristianGrestI bought mine used in like new condition in the box for $900.
Why is this "unfortunately " i see plenty of people complain about it but not with any reason behind it. So whats the problem??
Not following your question, what problem?
@@ChristianGrest about it having the lock? Whats so bad about it???
@@wbf91 oh the lock! Yea folks are worried it can fail. Plus it looks bad in my opinion. It was something to please the anti-gunners.
@ChristianGrest ah ok. Ya I suppose so, to be fair I don't think I've heard of any failing? 🤔 its not as clean looking ill agree but I think the 629 still an awesome firearm
@@wbf91 I’ve not heard of any either, but it’s an unnecessary failure point and an eye sore. They do make plugs to hide them though.
Thats a sexy revolver.
Thanks 😊. Been a fun one!
My local pawn shop has a very beautiful 629 no dash with an 8 and 3/8 inch barrel that is just absolutely gorgeous. and they only want 1199 for it but I see them go for more than that all the time I might be able to talk him down to ride around 10:50 if I can do that who knows I may get it
Oh heck yea! Especially a no dash. Should be a soft shooter, or softer with the added weight. But this one is really soft to be honest
@@ChristianGrest I agree. I have the 6.5 classic deluxe.
