    Amazing looking knife - theres a lot of honesty in the utility and perfornance i'd bet.
    I put my first order in with HH and it's coming tomorrow- exciting!
    This Otter is not in stock presently, but i'm totally sold on getting one.

    Greetings from California. I just bought this knife on a recent trip to Maine as a memory of spending time on the coast and sailing there. It is everything you describe. The fit and finish are perfect. It reminds me of the Barlow knife I owned as a boy. It was nice to hear your confirmation of everything I was thinking about this knife. Cheers.

    Well done, Paddy.
    I saw it first over at Slicks page, but you both are worthy of your own individual spins on this piece!

    Very nice review Paddy. I've recently received my small anchor knife and am very impressed with it. I went for a slightly different finish, choosing the Smoked Oak version, which is basically the same but with an oak handle and a steel inlay. Love the chat and thanks for your service!

    I just saw the Slick Slicer's video on the Anker Messer knife and it is both a looker and a user! Tobias has quite the "nautical knife" collection, particularly Marlin Spike knifes. All these channels are quite enjoyable! Thanks for the second look at the Anker Messer!

    Nice little Rope Knife. Thanks for the shout out. I'll be checking out Slick Slicers and Logan straight away! I'll need to check out Otter Messer! The Sheepfoot gives you a longer flat cutting edge for cutting through the line and stronger spine so you can whack it with a belay pin.

    Story time with Uncle Paddy! _Gorgeous knife._ This is the second slippie I've seen with an anchor shield in the past week! BTW, that's definitely a sheepsfoot. Sheepsfoot has edge that runs more or less parallel to spine, or can taper slightly towards pivot. Lambsfoot has a distal taper, getting narrower towards the tip. As to whether one had more of a functional reason over the other, I've got no idea. Very nice, these are not readily found on this side of the pond.

      Theres another bit to the story ill tell when I've used it for a while. But so far the fit and finnish is somewhere between case and gec. Im reall quite taken with it. Atb paddy ☘️👍😊

    Nice knife, thought youmight find this interesting. My Dad wae also a us navy vet. Forged the papers at the start of ww2, At 15 he was crossing the north atlantic to Britain when theiir convoy was caught by a wolfpack. They started from New York with 30 vessels and made it to England with 10. Had to be so scary. Thanks, Harry

    The clincher that makes it a sailor's knife aside from the Killick, is the lanyard hole.
    I've done a fair bit of sailing and working on yachts and lost at least two phones overboard plus a few tools for lack of a lanyard.

    Hello. Put this comment on slick slicers yesterday. So sorry if you have already seen it. One theory about that style of knife that i have read in French knife history books. Is that in the 18th century the French Vessel Scipion fought the british HMS London and lost but the London was heavily damaged. The crew of the french ship was taken prisoner and employed to repair the british ship. They were each issued with a knife that had the tip broken off to make it "innofensive". Since then this is the traditional sailors knife in Brittany and is called, THE LONDON. As i said. I have read this but i am not saying it is 100% true. If you Google couteau London, this is the knife you see. Good health and stay safe.

    • @rustyblade5451
      @rustyblade5451 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One of many stories about this pattern! But all go into more or less the same direction and the French willingly admit, they nicked the pattern from the British. In France this knife is also known as "L'Armor". This has nothing to do with armor as in protective gear. Armor is the celtic name for the coast of Brittany.

    • @paddyspotatopeelers2154
      @paddyspotatopeelers2154  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Between you two ive hot so much info to make a story up for the knife. Lol. This kind of stuff is priceless, thank you both so much for taking the time to comment appreciate it very much. Atb paddy 👍😊☘️

    • @rhino5419
      @rhino5419 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Rusty Blade. Hi. Yes there are many theories about the origins though all admit it is a british design. I have been going to the Côtes D'Armor region of Brittany for vacation for the last 10 years and it is there that i have picked up a couple of these knives but they are not of the same quality as Otter knives. Funnily, though i live in France, Paddy is closer to Brittany than me. All the best.

    • @rustyblade5451
      @rustyblade5451 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rhino5419 Hi, since I am a budget collector, my L'Armor is by Au Sabot. However, I have to say the quality isn't any worse than the Anker Messer. And mine is a lot prettier for sure!! 😁😁😁😁

    • @rhino5419
      @rhino5419 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Rusty Blade. Me too, budget all the way. That is why i like Ganzos so much. Nowhere else can you get such high quality for such little money. I will have to try to get a better quality L'Armor this summer. One great thing about France is that nearly every region has it's own traditional knife. Not counting the ever present Opinels and Laguioles.
