  • This is the 4th update of this popular Lodging video by Travel Guide Steve Salis.
It includes a Tour of each of the Park’s historic Lodges and the popular Motor Inns as well as nearby places and activities. Because you now need separate Vehicle Reservation for each park area where you stay is even more important.
This update includes the latest Vehicle Reservation Ticket rules.
The NEW VEHICLE RESERVATION system means where you stay greatly influences what you can see and do in the park.
To determine the best place to stay you'll need know what you want to do in the park. So, hiking, wildlife and things to do at each is discussed.
Glacier is now very difficult for the spontaneous. Whether they be campers or those hoping to find a hotel. A Vehicle Reservation Ticket is needed during busy hours during the busy season - the video has the dates and hours-- just to get in the park.
The recent popularity of the Glacier makes it difficult to stay in a lodge in the Park as rooms must be booked many months and usually a year in advance.
We tour the three Historic Lodges- Glacier Park Lodge, Lake McDonald Lodge and the Many Glacier Hotel and visit The Prince of Wales Hotel in Glacier's Canadian Sister Park- Waterton Lakes National Park. We also tour the Park's many Motor Inns- They are like motels and they are our guides favorite places to stay. They are located at Rising Sun, Many Glacier, Apgar Village and Lake McDonald. We also see the small "uncluttered" cabins.

Stayed at Swift Current Motor Inn last night (June 14, 2023). Wifi is spotty and only available in the lobby of the office where you go to check-in and out. Definitely no cell phone service.
I stayed in a room (motel building) that had an adjoining room. The sliding doors (one on each side) between the two rooms had simply latches. Plus, there was a small gap between the frame and the door. I could peek into the other room via this sliver. Obviously, any loud conversation in one room would carry to the other. Otherwise, the room was roomy and the bathroom has a shower.
As for hiking, I did the hike to Iceberg Lake. It was raining and as I got up in elevation, it was sleeting. I did see two young moose on the way up and two Bighorn Sheep on the way down.

Thanks for the feedback. Still my favorite place to stay in the park. As I say in the video - don’t go to Glacier for the accommodations. If you need typical hotel amenities stay outside the park and give those of us who love the area a better chance to get a room in that amazing location.

We stayed at Many Glacier Hotel during the first weeks of June. The WiFi is now excellent throughout the hotel and has reasonable speed!

Thanks for letting me know! I’ll add it to the update list. Of course the question is- is that good news? it can be nice to disconnect

Great video, Steve! Very well done, and clearly presents not only the lodging inside and outside the park (which many will appreciate knowing about). Definitely need to know about the ticketed entry situation, too! Thank you!

Thank you for such informative videos! They are a great help. I'm planning a trip to Glacier in July 2024. Do you believe it is safe at this point to stay at Pine Top?
