Valmaera is the name Tempest's race uses for the universal life energy of all things that is core to their vaguely mystical nonspiritual belief system. Their home world was Vognel Prime but they call themselves Maerinians because of their connection to that life energy.
Tempest has taken a more human-sounding name during his time on earth. M'kk=>Mack So his (human) name is Mack Dalton. In addition, Maerynian is pronounced "Mer-Rini-An"
I adore what they did with Tempest in DE. He was a pretty boring hero in EE (but effective). Now I find him perhaps even more interesting than heroes I considered straightforward-but-fun like Wraith and Tachyon. His base Power keeps him fairly simple, which is nice for multi-handed solo. His alternate puts him up there with my favorites of the straightforward heroes.
Tempest in EE was a One-Shot master who could do massive damage and control. Tempest in DE is mostly just damage. He lost a lot of his utility and requires a lot more set-up to get him working. In DE, he is way more swingy than his EE version. Either he is walloping the enemies with damage only, or he is barely doing anything. It is super disappointing. At least in EE, he could do a lot more, more consistently. I even played a bit of his EE version in a DE game with the DE version also in the party, and he was way better in his EE version. It is very sad. I hope one of his Variant Hero cards in DE can fix that. I have found that at least one Hero Card (base or one of the variants) for each hero usually make the deck work way better.

He is definitely a huge improvement in this version. The design works so well and makes him feel so much less boring.

We have only played him once and yeah he didn't really feel that interesting
Fun fact: Like all Maerynians, Tempest is neither male nor female so uses “they/them” pronouns!
