It just takes years of applying these practices. That’s a big part of the reason why people who win large lottery pay outs are broke after a couple of years. For instance it took my parents the better part of 40 years of doing all these things to accumulate their wealth.

Hammers are dangerous but it's a tool we use for our benefit just like credit cards. If you pay a penny in interest, you're doing it wrong. Sadly this is the minority of users and the bank's will always come out ahead as long as people are financially illiterate.

My friends and I had just left school and one of them got himself a credit card and went and bought a camera (this was back in the 1980s). Nine months later, having made numerous repayments to the credit card company, he ended up selling the camera to pay off the balance. So he had effectively ended up taking out a very, very expensive short-term loan with nothing to show for it at the end.

I don't buy disposable diapers, disposable nursing pads, disposable wipes, new gadgets, home decor that I can make easily, I shop at thrift stores for my clothes, I de-clutter my house when i feel overwhelmed by stuff I do not use, I don't pay for cable, I don't buy my kids fancy toys and get rid of toys they don't play with. I limit the time they use the tv or their gadgets.

I work with some affluent persons and one thing I’ve noted about all of them is that they dress how they want and not to impress. They may wear an expensive watch, but generally what they buy isn’t for appearances. Generally anything they buy are products they endorse, like, and actually use. Since switching to their approach as a young person I’ve saved a lot of money. Everything I own actually serves a purpose. Everything I wear is worn because I like it and endorse the brand - not because it’s fancy, lux, or I want to show off.

Time for a shocking revelation: Poverty isn't solely because somebody was irresponsible with their money before. There are plenty of reasons someone can become poor, like getting sick or injured and losing their job as a result. I work with some affluent persons and one thing I’ve noted about all of them is that they dress how they want and not to impress. They may wear an expensive watch, but generally what they buy isn’t for appearances. Generally anything they buy are products they endorse, like, and actually use. Since switching to their approach as a young person I’ve saved a lot of money. Everything I own actually serves a purpose. Everything I wear is worn because I like it and endorse the brand - not because it’s fancy, lux, or I want to show off.

Time for a shocking revelation: Poverty isn't solely because somebody was irresponsible with their money before. There are plenty of reasons someone can become poor, like getting sick or injured and losing their job as a result. Or maybe someone was forced to quit their job to take care of a terminally ill family member. Or plenty of other reasons.
My point is that us struggling people aren't always clueless or foolish with money. Sometimes we're forced to take up "bad habits" because we have no other choice.

giselle torres the credit card thing doesn’t make sense. You need credit history but it’s your responsibility to keep the usage low. When you cancel cards you mess up your credit history and can lower your score

I know this is off-topic, but I hate it when people ask me "If you're poor how tf were you able to place this comment" "How did you have a phone" I mean, seriously. In your country, a phone may be expensive, but in other countries it isn't really expensive at all. And some stuff that are normally cheap in your country may be expensive in different countries. A friend once told me that the price of my phone is just the price of a second-hand phone in her country. But since my phone is not second-hand, then it means that my phone is pretty cheap in my country, whereas in other countries, it is expensive.
I never buy new clothes, I've got an item of clothing for each purpose so I don't buy anything new until something needs to be replaced.
This is why rich people are rich, they know how to save money and keep it.

I seem to fit very close to what this video is describing. I am extremely careful how I spend and manage my money. I take very close care for my health. I live a simple type of life. I avoid junk type foods, and I am very careful to eat healthy. I don't take expensive vacations. I don't smoke or drink liquor. I dress very simple wearing quality type clothes that are guaranteed for life. I am wearing clothes that were bought in the 1970's.
