As a parent of a high school student in Scotland I have found your material so clear and so useful for me to help my son in recent homeschool era. Thank you so much.
I double majored in English and Music in college a little over a decade ago. I couldn’t have this fantastic genius as a teacher then, but I certainly appreciate having him as a teacher now as I brush up on terms!
Thank you very much, Sir! I really love Music Matters channel! I really love how you explain the materials.. They are very easy to understand.. Stay safe and healthy, Sir..
so nice sir.... tq so much i scored 88/100 in my grade 5 music theory trinity exams.... your videos helped me a lottt...... any topic i search in youtube your videos are ready to explain me.... tq soo much sir
great teaching video sir! love your British accent really! the way you delivery the knowledge is really easy to understand! also i love every single example you played on the piano. so beautiful. could you please list the titles of examples when you have a chance? thank you so much and cant stop watching your videos. xx.
That’s most kind. Sorry I can’t give you a list of examples - they are just pieces I made up for the video. Much more at www.mmcourses.co.uk including details of our 25 online courses and our Maestros programme.
Thank you so much! Creating textures is really essential for music composition, especially in production, doesn't this channel really have a series of videos teaching about it?
thank you! I have a couple of questions: 1- what is the spreading of a chord is called, for example if CM is played like C4 E4 G4 C5 G5 it would sound shinier and brighter than two CM chords stacked on top of each other, and are there books discussing this topic deeply? 2- if a song in B minor , and there's a chord progression like : Bm → AM → Bm , and is accompanied by a base line like A2 → A2 → B2 respectively ( by contrabass pizzicato ), now the first Bm/A sounds good as long as the Bm is in a high octave and the A is in a low octave, and they're not good if they're close, ( also they don't sound that good on piano but sound good on separate instruments), why does that happen, what is it called, and is there books discussing this topic deeply? sorry if it's too long
1. There’s no particular name for spacing of chords. There are things that work better than others, like trying to avoid more than an octave between neighbouring parts except the tenor and bass; do your best to avoid doubling major 3rds etc.
2. This rather depends on the context. Bm with A in the bass could, for example be Bm7. If you want to join Music Matters Maestros you can bring all these enquiries to the monthly livestream.
It depends on the piece but think - high, low, thick, thin, homophonic, polyphonic, melody and accompaniment, widely spaced, centred in the middle range etc
That’s most kind. Loads more at www.mmcourses.co.uk where you can find 24 online courses, an invitation to join Music Matters Maestros, an opportunity to book one to one tuition, and much more.
Hi sir, i have 2 doubts. 1. Do scale runs(apart from the accompaniment) beneath the melody makes them polyphonic? for example in Nutcracker Act II , PAS DE DEUX, from bars 26, melody is played by oboe and the accompaniment played by horns and strings doing scale runs....Is this homophonic or polyphonic? 2. Question and answer types of music between the instruments comes under polyphonic music or simply homophonic with imitation between the parts? (Ex: In Nutcracker Act II, Variation I-tarantella, bars 9, 10 , 11) Are all kinds of imitations comes under polyphonic? Kindly clarify. Thank you.
It depends on each situation. If you have melodic movement over solid chord movement then it’s homophonic. If it’s a series of melodic lines that are integrated (ie essentially linear movement) then it’s polyphonic.
HAPPY 2018....I'm glad your taking REQUESTS...as indicated in this tutorial. I Would Like to request a Tutorial on Your Opening and Closing Melody. is Counter Melody a polyphonic texture??
It can be but not necessarily
What the difference between playing broken chords and arpeggio?
A broken chord pattern involves breaking up the chord in any way/ order that suits the composer. An arpeggio is a specific pattern/ order of notes.
@@MusicMattersGB Thank you, I appreciate the knowledge. I can now practice with confidence.
