  • Asherigad or Asheri Fort is a 510m tall mountain in Palghar Manor region which went into many hands of rulers. Amidst beautiful forest this is a beautiful place with much historic importance.
Shot in two different days, one during post monsoon and winter.
    BASE VILLAGE: Khodkona or Khadkawane
*** NH8 is renamed to NH48 but still widely used by many people.

Just a heads up to those planning a night trek or an early morning trek here. The forests around the fort are leopard infested. Please go in a group. Do not venture into the woods alone

any solid details of leopard presence like survey info apart from villagers word, it would be helpful :)

Gautam Khetwal when we were returning from asherigad we met some forest officials. We had camped up on the fort at night. He told us we shouldn't have. The entire area of asheri range and adsul range is leopard infested. I asked him for official numbers as well. He told me there are at least 11 leopards in the area. They belong to medhwan khind region. Unfortunately some have been killed while crossing the highway too.
I put the same query to officials from SGNP. They told me that while they don't have official numbers ( I would have to approach Dahanu forest department for that), there are plenty of leopards in the area.

oh thank you very much for the info, most leopards are in sgnp and nagla bunder region. however i knew the forest of kohoj, kaman, asheri palghar must also have leopards since they share the same belt of forest but was not confirm. the forest of kaman and kohoj are very dense to hold leopards apart from sgnp but i was doubt of asheri since it is isolated. thanks for the info and do post some more if you get any details of the leopard count. The more the better :)

Is it legal to catch leopards? They are indeed an educated cat in its lineage.
