@@MidTierVillain I read some of his poems and he really seemed to get it. He was funny on the Wire and I'm glad David Simon used him in that. The real Fran plays the receptionist at the detox Fran goes to, and she married Donnie Andrews who appears on the Wire. He was the real life Omar. They're all gone now but Baltimore will always love and remember them.
@@MidTierVillainI watch the wire in Deandre could of did good in acting because he can act the kid had so much potential in talent but I think his childhood trauma ruin him…
See how Fran is so pleasant and caring when shes sober? The drugs really do put so much anger and frustration in your heart. When people get sober their personality does a 180. Very sad to see because addiction is worse than it ever has been. So many people out there suffering like this. Had a life long friend who was the coolest dude ever, was so chill, funny as hell, we thought just alike and never got angry or annoyed with each other no matter what. Well his lovely mother started giving him painkillers in High school, he became addicted pretty much immediately and he just became the biggest jerk in the world. Every little thing bothered him and he would talk so much sh*t to you for no reason, you could tell he would just sit there and getting angry at every little thing you did. He got into this "thug" mode and hated anything that would make him seem weak or like a "white boy" in any way which caused huge riffs between us because I never seen being a thug as cool cause I grew up in the Hood of Milwaukee and knew what it was really all about. His mom messaged me on Facebook a year ago (At this time I had not talked to him in like 7 years) begging me to start hanging out with him again and help change his environment because he was shooting up Fentanyl now which led to him getting arrested for falling asleep on the side of the highway, cops woke him up and found all dope/tools. I still worry about him a lot but honestly I was so scared to get close to him again, I wouldn't be able to handle him ODing and I really didnt want to get involved with that stuff again because I had trouble with it too, if you hang out with drug users you will become one eventually. Im even scared to message his mom and check up on him. Sorry for the novel but it just helps emotionally to write this stuff out sometimes, that situation really bothered me when I was a teenager and still does to this day. It was just like losing a good friend forever because he was a completely different person. This show makes me think of him and all the other friends I lost to the opiates....so many good kids. I pray for all the addicts every night.

He the thought if dropped to those peoples level they wouldn't disappointment him. Drugs numbed his pain. I don't use drugs but i mask my pain in another way
Great movie, and great actors. My favorite part and what made my heart warm, was when Fran took her sons to the new house, the smile on her face was beautiful and she was so happy.
This show hits home for me I was born and raised in the city of Pittsburgh on the north side I seen some of my uncles struggle with drug abuse it was sad I lost a uncle overdose lost a cousin to an overdose family members in and out of jail addiction is a really sad thing once it gets a hold of you it’s very hard to turn your life around those who have got clean more power to you and God bless you and just remember if you’re addicted there’s always another way if you really want to get clean just stick with it and have the will power only you can change your life around
4:00 .....if you're a human with compassion you're watching that scene and hoping they make it. That mom stays clean and her and D get a job and get back to the task of carving out their slice of the American dream.
As an ex addict this show reminds me what a hell on earth addiction was, yet at the same time watching them use makes me want to use again too. And I never even shot up before. Addiction is the devil.. Just like when Gary went through that excruciating pain in jail while being forced to get clean, and even though he made it through the withdrawals, he still went right back to using the day he got out. Thats how strong the temptation is. Youre willing to feel all that pain and go through all that hell just to feel okay for a couple hours.
Smh they really had a shootout with each other & this episode was one that should be taught in schools very educational.. Tyreeka lack of prenatal care is definitely to be talked about.
I thought I was trippin but once I really paid attention I realized like,” Wait, ain’t that Boo he just shot at? Wait a minute that was RC.” The dudes who originally shot sped off literally seconds after.
First one told him to cut his hair (for what reason? They don’t got hairnets?) and the other one that’s only gonna give him casual work around Christmas, after that he’ll be getting 2 3hr shifts a week til next holiday season if they don’t sack him or he has the good sense to quit by then...I wish I’d have walked out on those jobs as well
This series was something I watched when I was a suburban addict just getting started. My boosting partner and I made most of our dope money from shoplifted DVDs, and this happened to be a box set that I ended up with and watched before we sold it to the CD store. It has always stuck with me. I was a fan of Charles Dutton from his days on Roc. This series was really well made, and has stood the test of time. I'm in recovery now, 30-some years later.
This is the only thing I've even watched, and this is around the 8th time I've watched this series, that i watch every second of the closing credits. Love the real pictures!!
Read the book when I was 15 or 16 in a facility somewhat like they boy's village that we have here outside of Minneapolis, MN. One of the best books I have ever read in my opinion, I loved it.

This whole series was brilliant excellent acting. Shout to Charles S.Dutton got directing a great series. Rest in peace Dre McCullough, Gary McCullough and the whole crew
i love how the gun fight is terrible, these are just inexperienced kids not hardened criminals. much like we see happening with the cops in the station with andre when they begin to soften to him and warm up to him and i think genuinely like him despite being on the other side of the law, you cant help but sympathize for dre and dink and the others even though they do shit like get in shoot outs over drug turf. because at the end of the day they're still good kids and not inherently bad people, tender with their families and they care for each other and dre is good with children, they're likeable but just in a hopeless situation.
the gun fight gave me such anxiety. like no wonder little kids end up getting shot in their beds when fools like this are running while shooting behind them IN THE DARK. im like are they even trying to hit their target or just fire off shots and make noise.. so disorganized and how innocent ppl get killed. they need to stick to bb guns and paintballs treating guns like toys with no proper training. i know its a show but this stuff happens in real life and families, old ppl, and children have to live around it.
It’s even crazier when you realize the original shooters were in that black sedan behind them and left immediately after. They were shooting at each other the entire time, thinking it was the DC Boys.
One thing about Fran that made her Relapse was that when she Got Clean & Started Recovering, she expected Everyone Else to Change. It doesnt Go like that, the one u hav to worry about is YOU, life w the others Still Goes On. Theres a sayin in Recovery that goes "Theyll Get U High, before U Get them Clean". Hav a good day All, and remember, "One day at a Time".👍🏾
Something else, too: Fran was about the "victory lap" the first couple times through detox/inpatient, but that pink cloud can only last but for so long. It can't help to repair a lifetime of self-abuse in mere months, with insufficient effort and dedication. Fran didn't become a dopefiend overnight, so consequently it took a long time to get her act sustainably together. After the events of book/miniseries, she found a bottom much lower than what was previously known. After waiting months for a bed, she worked an honest program. Now Fran is one of the most inspirational women I know of (Tyreeka, who earned a Master's degree as a single mother, isn't far behind). Her story gave me hope when I was damn near hopeless.
@MomMom4Cubs NO, she WASNT Working an "Honest" Program, because she Jumped Right into a dam relationship that Clearly made her Go Right bac Out Again. She was totally ignoring her Own Sons advice. Plus one of the "Dont Do's" in N.A. is "Stay Out of relationships for at least a YEAR" when 1st getting clean.
Brings back so many memories I remember when my Dad took us through his drug addiction I would look into the sky stare into the darkness not knowing if I we would make it cold dirty I’m not sure if I ever healed
I don't know why women who are handling their business or at least attempting to decide they need to latch on to a raggedy man. That dude Fran hooked up with was her downfall.
Actually Fran was Gary downfall!! Shes the one who got him hooked on drugs she was on drugs when she met him! He didnt do drugs until after he met her! EDIT: sorry I just realized you was talking about the second guy she was with not Gary lol.

The real Fran plays the receptionist at the detox Fran goes to, and she married Donnie Andrews who appears on the Wire. He was the real life Omar. They're all gone now but Baltimore will always love and remember them.
See her in CB4 she was fire.
@@MidTierVillainI watch the wire in Deandre could of did good in acting because he can act the kid had so much potential in talent but I think his childhood trauma ruin him…
This show was the realist. I for one can definitely relate. 90s was good and bad.
I like how although deandre mom n pops not together and go what they go through, they still communicate although it's not always a positive convo

I can’t believe it’s 2018 and I never watched this show well maybe cause we couldn’t afford HBO when this show aired 😂 but still I could’ve been watched it next is the wire and oz on my list to watch
Dorien Fletcher the wire is classic. Tough to watch at times also oz is good but a lot of rape and racism lol.
The wire’s the best out of them all but oz is a good ass show too
OZ is 1 of the best shows on HBO
It came on BET too tho
Dorien Fletcher I use to watch this all the time

Gary had a good heart.
.good guy
I feel Gary's pain. All be wanted was for people to show him love and care the way he did for them.
He was kind and people took advantage of him.

Damn!
I wish Fran and Blue would have got together after that meeting hug!💃🏾🚶🏾💕
Blue was married
That’s his homie wife. Her and Gary were still married.
Gary's face in the hospital room when Scalio said "time 4 what?"

Stuff like this makes you really appreciate how good you actually have it

Gary, DeAndre, Fran, and her husband Donny K. are all deceased.

Thanks for your transparency. Stay Strong ❤️
I wish we could have seen more about Fran as a child and her relationship with her Dad.
You could read the book.
Smh they really had a shootout with each other & this episode was one that should be taught in schools very educational.. Tyreeka lack of prenatal care is definitely to be talked about.
Yes at Tyreeka!
I thought I was trippin but once I really paid attention I realized like,” Wait, ain’t that Boo he just shot at? Wait a minute that was RC.” The dudes who originally shot sped off literally seconds after.
Tyreeka only one had great thing going waste of them wasn’t going good there self…
haha Deandre sure has a way of applying for jobs
Lol right
He doesn’t really want one, the way how he walks in and ask if they are hiring is half assed. He just wanted an excuse to go back to the corner

You gotta point. Whata slacker
I'm in recovery now, 30-some years later.

i love how the gun fight is terrible, these are just inexperienced kids not hardened criminals. much like we see happening with the cops in the station with andre when they begin to soften to him and warm up to him and i think genuinely like him despite being on the other side of the law, you cant help but sympathize for dre and dink and the others even though they do shit like get in shoot outs over drug turf. because at the end of the day they're still good kids and not inherently bad people, tender with their families and they care for each other and dre is good with children, they're likeable but just in a hopeless situation.
the gun fight gave me such anxiety. like no wonder little kids end up getting shot in their beds when fools like this are running while shooting behind them IN THE DARK. im like are they even trying to hit their target or just fire off shots and make noise.. so disorganized and how innocent ppl get killed. they need to stick to bb guns and paintballs treating guns like toys with no proper training. i know its a show but this stuff happens in real life and families, old ppl, and children have to live around it.
It’s even crazier when you realize the original shooters were in that black sedan behind them and left immediately after. They were shooting at each other the entire time, thinking it was the DC Boys.
No wonder Andre couldn't find the job, his attitude is wild disrespectful LOL
Very
Damn the sad thing is that this is realty for so many God give us strength💕
“A man child alone with burdens to bare “ sad reality of being a young black man
One thing about Fran that made her Relapse was that when she Got Clean & Started Recovering, she expected Everyone Else to Change. It doesnt Go like that, the one u hav to worry about is YOU, life w the others Still Goes On. Theres a sayin in Recovery that goes "Theyll Get U High, before U Get them Clean". Hav a good day All, and remember, "One day at a Time".👍🏾
Something else, too:
Fran was about the "victory lap" the first couple times through detox/inpatient, but that pink cloud can only last but for so long.
Gary wears that sadness. Props to the actor.
Teresa J. Seeing her son high off coke was the ultimate downfall for her
Fran was also Garys downfall, it works both ways
She felt like that's what she deserved for her role in Gary's demise...we ALL attract people who treat us the way we feel about ourselves..
Actually Fran was Gary downfall!! Shes the one who got him hooked on drugs she was on drugs when she met him! He didnt do drugs until after he met her!
