There are actors who can sing, and then there is Cynthia Erivo. She is in a league of her own........
yes!
@@jessicasopranonotes Hello Jess!
After all the Nightwish reactions, would you like to finally react to Epica and their beautiful lead soprano Simone Simons?
I see my link was automatically deleted... So let's try again, without the link.
Epica is generally heavier than Nightwish (both bands are top dogs in the symphonic metal subgenre), but they have many wonderful ballads, some are purely orchestral, no metal at all.
The lead female soprano is gorgeous Simone Simons. You'll find out her voice is just as beautiful as she is :)
I would suggest to start with one of their orchestral ballads "Trois Vierges" (feat. Roy Khan) which is a duet of Simone and Roy from another band. Please, use the lyrics video uploaded by "Kamelot & ARK Lyric Videos".
I'd like to write more, but don't want to make this too long. I don't even know if you're gonna read it. I just hope you will ;)
you know what i find weird. we celebrate actors and actresses and we celebrate singers. somehow we dont celebrate people that have to do both nearly as much. musical theater is so underrated
The way ppl discount musical theater has never made sense to me. They’re literally doing both jobs at a high level LIVE!!!
@@ItsBoogie.part of it is it’s hard to spread musical through the internet comparing to pop/rap. It’s heavily relied on live performance, and when watching at home it also lost the charm of being in a theater since the setting is so different. I wish it got more recognition tho!
@@ramenjd6239
Yes but everyone understands that in most shows you’ll have to be doing both dance and singing and acting. You don’t need to see clips of any musicals to know that, that’s like the most basic things. Before I ever watched any live action musicals I at least understood that people danced and sang
I had the privilege of seeing her live on Broadway in this. People were crying and she got a standing ovation mid-show, I’ve never seen that in the theatre before and it was fully deserved. The best musical show I have seen!
Me too! This show was my introduction to her. She is phenomenal 😍
Me too we saw her towards the end of the Broadway run. We had great seats and I brought my Mom and MIL. They still talk about the experience.
I'm so jealous 😭😭 I'd loooove to see her sing live one day
Wow!!!!! Powerful!!! And the walk after the song sealed it!!!! I’m in tears
I've heard this so many times but she destroys me every time. I'm further blown away every time I remember that she wasn't even 30 when she did this role. The maturity in the acting is astounding.
How old was she??
@@jessicasopranonotes Well, she's 34 now and the Show opened in 2015, so she was probably 27 when she was cast.
@@carr0760 & @Soprano Notes - As delighted as I initially was to see "Cynthia's" comments on this thread, I have reason to believe this is not her. I just contacted Cynthia to make her aware of this...
@@jessicasopranonotes recommend watchingAlisa Supronova - Моя струна/My string
th-cam.com/video/OXCCKNnTBBE/w-d-xo.html
@@carr0760 she did the show first in London and this was the Broadway version of that show so she was even younger when first performing it. Incredible, huh?
Now I'm having flashbacks to Cynthia's 2-part appearance on Terrell's channel and how everyone involved was a blubbering mess by the end 🎶😭
Best. Terrell. Episode. Ever! Lol
Definitely my fave Terrell video
Yes. Yes. Yes. I will never forget witnessing Terrell receive those words. Jess - if you have not yet seen it, please check out The Terrell Show. So many powerhouses have graced that blue wall!!! 💙
I LOVE the Terrell Show! It's embarrassing how many times I've watch his reaction to Yebba "My Mind."
@@jessicasopranonotes OMG that is actually how I found him - and how I got into reaction videos... And Song Association?! Don't even get me sTaRtEd - Ledisi, Stout, The Clark Sisters, The Walls Group, Callie Day, Avery Wilson, Amber Riley, Gene Noble, Vincint, Durand, Stevie Mackey, Shelea, Brooke Simpson, Candice, Cynthia... mmkay, clearly I got started. 🙃 Would LOVE to see you react to Ledisi btw. She is an entire master class. 💖 Ooooh I got one for you! Lisa Fischer "How Can I Ease The Pain" live... mmkay I'ma stop. 😊
I’m not sure how she performed this song that many times without crying. I cry EVERY single time I hear it and attempt to sing along.
She doesn't like to sing this song though, because playing that character actually traumatized her a lot. She talks about it here th-cam.com/video/E-Flmo07ddk/w-d-xo.html (05:50)
I’ve watched this performance like 6million times, so why am I crying?!!! 😭😭😭😭
lol!
Cause iiitss Beautiful. .😀.........The song , the words, and Cythia's voice touches the soul!!!!
I don't classify Cynthia as a Singer. When a singer sings, I listen, Whatever Cynthia does I FEEL. It is like she lives in song. I loved your Analysis, you articulate how technique produces emotion perfectly, both in your analysis and your genuine behaviour. I enjoyed this thoroughly - subscribed ;-)
Tears, tears and more tears… she just blew the roof off that building with that performance! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I saw her sing this on Broadway in the Color Purple. Bring your tissues tomorrow!
😱
There are thousands of music reaction videos , none of them have the depth of knowledge and power of observation you display , well done and thank you 🤓🤓
Wow, thank you
I swear Cynthia Erivo is the greatest singer to ever come out of the UK. She is just incredible!
Cannot watch Cynthia perform this without crying. This recording of her might be one of my favorite videos on the internet, of all time, period. Thank you for connecting with it and reacting both intellectually and emotionally. This is healing work.
I’ve watched this and the Stephen Colbert performance hundreds of times. Truly a masterclass. Deserved Tony.
Yes!!! Same!
I saw this show 5 or 6 times. I knew exactly what was going to happen and I bawled like a bébé every single time. It felt like her voice pierced my chest right into my heart. Easily the single best Broadway performance I've ever seen....and i live in NYC and go to practically everything.
When you told yourself, "don't cry," in the first half of the first verse, I knew you were in for it 😂
This is and has been one of my favorite performances ever. I cry almost every time I watch this one. She is just so amazing. She was born to sing and perform, I truly believe that. Love love love how she embodies the character and emotions here, and that amazing vocal talent is just the icing on the cake! 🥰🥰🥰
Truly amazing performance!
This song and performance speak to me. I’ve been broken and beaten down by others, and lived in an abusive housing situation with a gaslighting alcoholic. The moment I got out and decided to move on, this was how it felt.
If you don’t cry listening to Cynthia you aren’t human.
SHE SLAYED HER PORTRAYAL OF ARETHA TOO!!! And mama got an Emmy nomination! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Haters can hate 🤡
Absolutely slayed it! And hater will hate and did but she was brilliant.
All of us are still crying with you! 😭😭😭 I love how you show what you're feeling in your reactions - it makes it more real and honest!
Thanks for the in-depth analysis of one of my FAVE singers! I'm glad I could share a little of my Broadway world with you (there will be more). 🥰💖
YAY! Thank you Shantei! Such a good choice ☺️
I’m an opera singer and your feedback is so detailed and insightful! Also love your personality and vulnerability! Subscribed ❤️❤️
Thank you, Aria! I really appreciate that!
I've watched several of your analyses before and appreciated them. This was your best. A lot of heart. A lot of smart. Subscribed.
Thank you Michael!
YES!!! I'm a big fan of Cynthia Erivo 🤣
Same she’s amazing
I was there...spent most of the show in tears! The most memorable and moving theatrical experience of my life.
Cynthia was trained as a lyric soprano here in London! You can't really hear it much in this performance but she's got a wonderful head voice.
Head voice on top of all that? Wow!
@@TheSeeking2know Check out her singing Take Care of This House or her in her Christmas special with Shoshana Bean.
@@KajiVocals I checked it out and I was impressed. Also listened to "Somewhere". A great singer, but I think she's strongest in this kind of soulful singing with lots of belting.
Among all the reaction videos I'd watched, yours has the most justice and respect that this performance deserves. Amazing video! I really felt the same way and Cynthia Erivo is heavenly stunning! Astounding theatre actress and crystal clear voice.
I love this in dept analysis being a singer and when I was 13 I used to sing for the Cape Town arts cape opera house it’s so refreshing to listen to your analysis… I just love your elegance and classy demeanour it’s sooo beautiful and I too cried for this performance
Thank you!!
I worked in the theater during this production... I cried EVERY TIME. I don't know how such a big voice comes out of that tiny woman! She is Amazing! And I love Fantasia's version just as much!
This much better than Fantasia.
She is a SANGER!!!!!!!!!!! you crying is a testament to her anointing.
She really is!
Your passion and the love for her technique is wonderful to watch. As someone who really doesn't know much about it, to see someone get such joy and emotion from it, I don't really know how to explain it, but it makes me very happy! I have watched many reaction videos to this performance, but yours was like watching it for the first time. Thank you for sharing.
you’ve captured a lot of physical aspects of her performance that i’ve missed. i was always focused on her voice which duh but her physicality is a whole nother story.
I cry every time I hear Cynthia’s version of this song! It touches the soul!!
She undoubtedly deserved her award for this performance. She is truly a story teller and an artist. Absolutely amazing. She blows me away every time I see her videos.
I Think Cynthia is the most important singer from de last Years, I knowed in 2020 and She is The Queen, Her tecnique and her expresion are wonderfoul..regards from Chile
I cried too watching her performance. It’s out of this world!!
My heart breaks every time I hear her sing! She’s one of my favourite vocalists ever, this performance especially… definitely please react to more Cynthia, Jess! You keep picking some of my faves so you’re keeping me happy 😂❤️
I will, thank you!
this is one of the most amazing analysis I've ever seen! cynthia is a powerhouse and I'm so glad you could react to her
Most beautiful song and performance EVER!!!
I know right?!
I still cry when when I hear this years and years later.
THANK YOU FOR FEELING EXACTLY WHAT I FEEL IN THIS SONG!!! YOUR EYES ARE WATERING LIKE MINE!!!
This just shows how music moves you, how it touches you and makes you FEEL! I really loved this reaction from you.
Every time I here this sang by Cynthia I cry. she does it best
I’m 41 and I watched this film as a child and it still breaks my heart. Love from Ireland ❤️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
It's okay if you cry. I often think music is the language of our souls, and is why music can touch us so profoundly.
I saw this show on Broadway in the front row on Christmas Night with the original Broadway cast and I am still in awe. It was truly amazing..the entire cast. Cynthia’s performance in the show remains to be my all time favorite female broadway performance ever !! Truly amazing ! I was in tears throughout the whole show.
Yes….I was also in tears. Cynthia’s voice transports you….she is incandescently pitch perfect in this entire performance
This song always makes me cry too. It’s just such a gorgeous song, and so much meaning behind it.
I loved watching this reaction, you can see that she felt every word Cynthia sang. Again loved this!
Cynthia's performance is stunning, as is your reaction! I'd LOVE for you to react to her friend Shoshana Bean's "Finishing the Hat" (Sondheim) cover. It's not her biggest vocal, but I adore the way you catch every subtle movement & glance & choice, so I think you - more than most - could appreciate what a beautifully emotive performance it is! An artist singing about an artist. ❤
Her version of A Piece of Sky from Yentl is astronomical! You can tell it was from awhile ago, but even her technique then was stoopid amazing!!!!
have you heard the LaChanze version? both ladies deserved that tony nod. LaChanze deserved every bit of that award and so did Cynthia based on this song alone.
If you don't cry during this song, and the performance the Cynthia Erivo gives, I mean, just wow!!!
React to more of her. Anything. Cause all of her performances are flawless
Wonderful analysis and a heartfelt reaction. Thank you. I cry every time I hear Cynthia sing this.
For a next reaction, might I suggest Jeremy Jordan singing She Used to Be Mine. The song is written for a woman, but he does such a beautiful job both technically and with his interpretation.
True. It gave me goosebumps!!
I saw her perform this live on Broadway and I still remember getting chills. Cynthia is a force. She is absolutely unbelievable.
she really is a spetacular performer
I've been waiting for you to react to Cynthia Erivo especially this performance of hers from The Color Purple which earned her a Tony Award. Same reaction as yours. She's impactful and the song's meaning and message were impeccably delivered.
So glad to see this. Cynthia Erivo is a Goddess. One of the few that can sing Aretha. Her versatility is off the charts.
She sings like no other. Her voice floats out of her..
I can never listen to this song without crying
Update: SHES PLAYING EFFIN ELPHABA YALL!!! We're gonna get a Defying Gravity Cynthia Erivo Version... ahhhhhh
Cynthia is one of a kind. We will never see another actor, man/woman that will be able to act/sing the way she does. She becomes that person. I desperately wanted 1 more full song in Harriet. Shes the only singer I literally cannot drive and listen to. My attention is never on the road.
Since they're remaking everything (like The Bodyguard. The audacity) lately they better cast her first. 😤
I love, love, love the way you critique! If the singer is truly a good performer, you give them credit where credit is due. When they're a great performer, the way you let your emotions out without pause, goes right thru me as equally as the performance itself. If no-one has told you what an amazing coach you are, that needs to be rectified. If you can appreciate a wonderful performance as much as your emotion tells us you do, then clearly, you've got to be one fantastic teacher. Critiquing is one thing. But, to show emotional appreciation for a performance while critiquing it, speaks volumes about your passion for musical performance. I've watched several of your videos and you talk about how important it is for the singer to find that emotional connection with the words in a song. But, the connection you allow yourself to get drawn into during an amazing performance and the openness to show us just how deeply you were touched, touches me deep down and hits me right in the feels, girl. I've got tears streaming down my face not only over the performance, but also over watching how it's affected you. When I say you're a beautiful person, I mean it in every way a person can be. ❤
Wow, thank you for your comment! I really appreciate that 😊
I love how you eloquently broke down her genius, I have to look for your performances ❤️
Its been 10 years since I first saw this show and I still cry.
Cynthia is just a brilliant performer and vocalist. You should react to the cover she and shoshana bean do of Taylor Swift's "Did Something Bad." It is such a good example of how both of them personify the mood of the song. Also, I love your channel, it is a great balance of informative and entertaining (your reactions are an exact reflection of how i feel lol).
its okay to cry :) watched her performance 100 times and i am still sobbing
😭 every time and I’ve seen her performance at least a good 20 times. You’re attention to detail and knowledge is so refreshing.
Was blessed to see this live and I literally almost jumped out of my seat BEFORE the end.
Cynthia brought the house down every single night.
It is a master class in acting/vocals/emotions.
Watching you react to this is so beautiful. I love your appreciation for both the acting and singing in all your videos. ❤️ I started welling up myself!
what an amazing analysis
I cry EVERYTIME i listen to her. 😭❤
That performance gives me chills every time I hear it.
Best reaction ever omg 😍😍
Thank you for this. It reminded me why I love and live music. Your reaction and analysis PLUS Cynthia’s performance has me in tears in the best way.
I love this performance, and I SCREAMED when I saw you uploaded this 😭 Thank you so much, you never fail.
This video, no matter how many times I watch it and I do watch it very frequently, I cry every time and don't know why. There is just something about this song!
Me too Jamie!
She’s so ridiculously amazing 😮
This music makes me want to be good … to simply be uplifted by this music is the gift of musical theater. What a celebration of life!
You’re hair looks really beautiful ❤️ always enjoy you insight and perspective on singers and performance. That performance was riveting!!!!
Your reaction is so genuine! Each time I listen to this song, live or prerecorded, my emotions are stripped raw! I end up replaying it like 5 times with my Cancer ♋️ self. Lol
Your commentary and most importantly your CRYING, made me appreciate her performance even more! I was ugly crying while watching your review. Love YOUR passion and excellence as well as Cynthia's! ❤️🎤🙏
I’ve seen this video SO many times and it makes me cry every single time without fail. It’s so moving and her performance of it is just ✨perfect✨ what a talent!!!
I cry every time
Love your breaking down what the artists are doing in their performances. Love the details!
Thank you!
Don't worry we are crying right along with you.
I loved that preaching moment when she clapped her hands. Oh so good! ☺️
First time I hear to Miss Erivo, I had so many chivers on my arms that I was wondering if it was cold in my room ! Thanks Jess, I appreciated a lot your technical analysis, we always learn something and I will try to remember it when I sing.
14:05 this part was especially helpful and interesting, and something I never would have noticed without your guidance ✨
Glad It helped!
Love love loveee Cynthia Erivo and I absolutely love how raw your reaction is😍
Thank you for this video. I will never, ever forget being in this Broadway audience. The entire audience was reacting in a similar way to you. The Color Purple made me "feel" in the theater more than any musical or play in 20 years.
Kudos to BOTH of you!
Both of you are right on target!
To me, as a professional actor and coach 34 years, these movements, actions, and phrasings are MUCH DEEPER than CHOICES.
Simply (and Complexly), they are the embodiment of a character. They happen, without choice, when an actor stops trying to act and simply “BECOMES”.
Also, as the one offering a critique, YOU put your obvious expertise in the back seat.
And, in an equally beautiful moment? You Both were quite remarkable.
W.
I’m crying right here with you 🥹
I had the same reaction! Emotional rollercoaster.
you should listen to Cynthia's new singles (her album is out on September 17!!!)
Listen to it every day! ❤
its nice that you are explain erverything........................ but most important is that she is touching my heart
This song I had to see and hear again: it inspired my participation in my Berlin joint exhibit, Cutting and Binding. Music and Art are interwoven.
I am so here for this-- 🥺🥺❤
Hey Jess, isn't this just absolute perfection?! In my opinion, Cynthia is one of our generations greats and it's almost scary to think that she's just getting better and better as time passes. This womans voice doesn't quit!! Thanks again, Jess!
You reaction was something else too....the best I've seen
It's just like being at church and listening to someone sing really well; brings you to tears. 🙌🏾
