It’s a hyperbolic take on the idea that trust and loyalty can sometimes be fragile, and that people’s true feelings might be more negative than they appear.
This song was inspired by the late, great Love Goddess, Judy Tenuta. I will never forget first seeing her on Space Ghost: Coast to Coast late one night, and hearing her speak the sentence "Friends are just enemies who don't have the guts to kill you." I couldn't help but think how profoundly metal of a though it was, and now here I am, 30 years later, still thinking about it. 🤘 Miss you, Judy!
