I've had Jeeps for quite awhile and the blend doors have always been an issue. On my old grand cherokee, I had to replace the heater core and both blend doors, due to them breaking. Now I'm dealing with a liberty and because it's blowing cold air when it's in the blend setting. Good times, hope Jeep figured out these heating issues since I have a new Grand Cherokee now.
Thanks for showing how to gain more access to the parts. Big guy, tight space. Means cussing. and more cussing. The bottom actuator was my problem. Took it off and manually moved the gear to get cold air for a/c. Wondered why it wasnt getting very hot this past winter. Now I know, gonna get the new part tomorrow and throw it on. Until then I left the actuator plugged in but held off to the side out of the way til the new one comes. Thanks again for the bottom dash trick, helped a big guy to see the light lol.
Ha ha, I'm not a big guy and it was tight for me. I can't image having a set of meat hooks and having to work in that tight space. Glad you figured it out.
I have the same problem with my lower actuator, i'm not getting A/C. Wondering did you have to get your actuator programmed by someone or was it a plug & play install and it worked?
You may have only single zone control.. depends how many temperature controls you have. The airbox for the dual zone gets reused for the single zone, so there's an empty actuator mount. It CAN be used to fix the problem.. Dorman has some solutions.
I had the exact some thing with my wife’s jeep. Broken teeth, just like yours. I moved it to a good mix of floor and defrost and epoxied it in place. The dash gears were still good, so she can select dash or floor/defrost.

It's blowing cold all the time but both inlet and outlet hoses to the heater core are hot, so I'm assuming that means the problem is not with the heater core but possibly with the blend door/actuator assembly.
I'm dealing with the same issues with my 2009 Jeep Liberty. Only difference is I get luke warm air on the passenger side and cool air on the driver's side. I've already replaced the heater core so now I'm moving on to the actuators. I love to hate this damn Jeep.
@@kellipowell9232 Better you than me! I manually spun the blend door to a position I could live with and placed a dob of epoxy on it to hold it in place. It did the job until I sold the vehicle. There's some high school kid beating on it now :-)

Should the end of the blend door for the directional flow be turning for every time you move the knob? Mine is not moving when the knob is turned to the floor, floor/front vents, and floor/defroster. The heat and A/C are fine it just doesn’t go to the floorboard ☹️
Yep.!!! I have2010 Liberty same freakin problem!!! I took off the actuators completely and I reach up and use my hand to adjust it!! I do it once in the summer for A/C then do it again in winter for the heat ..unbelievable crap they make!!
Yep, they are plagued with problems all across their product lines. So, I just got this issue straightened out and now my heater core appears to be plugged and I have luke warm heat on the driver’s side. You can’t make this stuff up.
My jeep AC is stuck on defrost and cold. It even seems to be using the AC when calling for heat. I can hear what sounds like a door close or something move when I first turn the blower on and for a split second heat will come out of the defrost then it's cold
we have a 2011 liberty limited, all same temp is hot, but not blowing on feet, but everywhere else is good... need to find out which actuator to replace

Sometimes I get no air flow anywhere no matter where I put the dial, AC or heat, so far what usually works for me is shut the Jeep off and wait a while, then restart then the air flow comes back, been doing this for the past year or so. @@HilltownCT Oh yes the blower works on 1 3 4, 2 is not but that dont bother me, That's probably the resister. Last week I went for a drive and the air would hardly come out, got back home let the Jeep sit for a short while and wahla the air flow is back on in all positions, so I dont know, it did that a couple times last summer.
Job38 Four I know it’s been a few months but I’m having this issue too with my ‘03 Liberty. AC blows cold and strong but about an hour into a drive, the flow stops with the blower still running. Did you find a solution?
I dont get air on the passenger side and its always on the floor, no matter what one its in. It does change between defrost, feet, and in the cabin so im not one hundred percent sure if this is the problem.
hello, arriving from the mechanic, my problem is that hot air blows for a few minutes then only cold air, after 4h we reach the conclusion of the problem, all the engines that open the doors are fine (there are 4 engines, two on each side) the problem is inside the box that distributes the air, now only hot air is blowing on the right and on the left it does not heat, conclusion, inside the box there is a broken piece and it does not operate the doors correctly, the entire panel must be disassembled front to take out the air box, hufffff many hours of work remain, greetings, thanks for the video and comments

Its been like 5 years since i've had heat in my jeep. And now im pretty sure the actuators are the problem. Guess i'll give it another year before i decided to do something about it.
I'm having heating issues. I've flushed my core twice. Heat improved a little. I don't think it has anything to do with my thermostat, my jeep gets up to temp fairly quick. My question, if I take the actuator off and just adjust to heat by hand, (if this is the problem) can I just leave it that way. I got used to not having ac in the summer from older vehicles, so I don't have any use for it.
P/N is T1001919F C but wont find it alone, need to buy the whole BOX that has the blend doors for like $260 bucks. dealer only and yes, dash has to come out.

Great video found one of my gears with half the teeth missing.. How did you get it back together: The bottom gears for the temperature control. Did you put it on the cover or put the gears on the doors. I ended up jamming a screw into the side of the gear because it kept moving back to the defrost.
I didn't put it back together! 😂 I manually moved the blend door to the position I wanted and epoxied it in place. The vehicle wasn't worth the time or money to invest into it any deeper. Thanks for watching.
@@bemat5220 Sorry, I didn't read your question close enough. As I recall, I didn't disassemble the gears for the temp control. They stayed on the cover and I just bolted that back on in one piece. I only messed with the directional airflow gears.

I don't see why you'd have to plug them back in. Depending on the blend door position you're looking for, it may or may not stay in place without some help. I epoxied mine because I had no intention of ever moving it.
GREAT help ! Question.. Did you have to remove the actuators first in order to remove the entire bracket they are mounted to? Or while you had it apart did ya notice if you could open that door by just removing ONLY the top acuator to turn the gear without removing the entire bracket? Thank you for explaining it WELL, to many others are confusing no heat to the floor -other than with no heat AIR FLOW DIRECTION to the floor.
I honestly don't recall removing the actuators first because I did the video so long ago, but to answer your second question, I suspect you could remove the top actuator to access the blend door gear. It would probably save you some time. Thanks for the kind words.
Ok Hilltown, Thank you for all the leg work you showed me and the exploded view of the parts. That HELP OUT GREAT !!! So after seeing your parts I could view in your video how it works. Here is what I did in 5 minutes to put air flow heat to the floor on my wifes 2012 Liberty Arctic. I removed 2 torx screws that hold the tiny vent tube on that points at your gas pedal, Then I put my hand up inside the air box to feel the round door flap, I took a tiny screw driver flat head and pushed the door wide open till it clicked shut (open). Then I pulled the wire plug off the upper actuator so it was not connected. If you leave the working actuator plugged in it will close that door again, TRUST me I did this three times testing it. When I put the little snorkel tube back on I only put in the bottom screw. Because in summer I will pull it off again and then plug the actuator wire back on so the dial works for the air con. The ENTIRE process to put air flow to the floor takes NO MORE THAN 5 minutes to remove snorkel , push door open. Ya gotta wiggle and yank the snorkle off once the 2 screws are out. Your video was GREAT HELP showing me how it works. Because of your video I was able to short cut. So now she has huge heat air flow to both sides of the floor and upper defrost, A little at console mid way. EXCELLENT BUDDY !!! thank you... Terry

yes $1300.00 to remove ENTIRE dash etc... for new air distribution box that has that gear on it. I would assume by what I saw looking at the job would be 8 hours for maybe two days work 16 hours if first time doing it. this summer I will remove the entire bracket like you did to look at the nylon gear. I have off ebay a Dental uv light curing tool with Dental light curing composite. It will harden like steel in 30 seconds. I fixed many nylon plastic parts with it. TRUST me it is awesome stuff !! I'll form a new gear tooth, light cure it to gear stronger than new OEM... I'm a Chevy guy, I never even knew how easy that lower trim panel under steering wheel came off to access the actuator till I watched your video, very cool !!! What did you video film with? your voice and video is crystal clean to view and hear. All clean in focus etc... Real nice job buddy...! Showed both sides of parts etc... NICE !!
My 08 is making loud clicking noises when I switch from like head heat to defrost, and there is a delay before it starts blowing.... I try to just keep it on defrost all the time and not mess with the dials much. Would it kill these car companies to use metal. It is not just Jeep, my friend had a 2014 Impala do this shit twice.
So to be accurate I only have airflow to the windshield no airflow on my feet so if I just turned it in up slightly I’ll get a little on my feet and a little on the windshield am I getting this correct
I believe so, but the problem I ran into was getting that blend door to remain in one position. Since I didn’t care about the vehicle and I was planning to unload it anyway, I just put a dollop of epoxy on the end of that blend door gear and voila.
I can tell by looking at your hands and nails you are not a professional mechanic. On that note I compliment you for this video, 70% of the "techs" as they so egotistically love to call themselves can not explain this as well as you did. Anyway the real reason for my comment is that the parts are not available to repair, you have to purchase the distribution box which retails for lots, and 600-1000 for labor. Final total for those couple of nylon teeth is going to be anywhere from 1000 to 2000.00 dollars. The higher end being for fans of dealer service.
I found out and checked the blend door I guess module or servo works I can get no air except up through the defroster including hot and cold checked some controls in behind the glove box they seem to work I was told that it’s a door that routes the air two different locations that is a failure of some type of adhesive where the door gets stuck in one location and pulling the entire dashboard is the only option
Did you get a quote to fix by any chance? If our rig was newer, I’d likely yank the dash and fix it, but not at this stage of the game with the mileage and age.
Yikes! If I didn’t mind my vehicle being out of commission for a few days, I would probably pull the dash myself to fix it. When it’s our daily driver, we don’t always have that option. Good luck.

I think it was defrost and floor, but I can’t remember for sure.

Make sure you use distilled water mixed in with the Jeep anti freeze if you flush out the heater core . I have had 2 radiators on Jeeps start leaking

yes $1300.00 to remove ENTIRE dash etc... for new air distribution box that has that gear on it. I would assume by what I saw looking at the job would be 8 hours for maybe two days work 16 hours if first time doing it. this summer I will remove the entire bracket like you did to look at the nylon gear. I have off ebay a Dental uv light curing tool with Dental light curing composite. It will harden like steel in 30 seconds. I fixed many nylon plastic parts with it. TRUST me it is awesome stuff !! I'll form a new gear tooth, light cure it to gear stronger than new OEM... I'm a Chevy guy, I never even knew how easy that lower trim panel under steering wheel came off to access the actuator till I watched your video, very cool !!! What did you video film with? your voice and video is crystal clean to view and hear. All clean in focus etc... Real nice job buddy...! Showed both sides of parts etc... NICE !!
My 08 is making loud clicking noises when I switch from like head heat to defrost, and there is a delay before it starts blowing.... I try to just keep it on defrost all the time and not mess with the dials much. Would it kill these car companies to use metal. It is not just Jeep, my friend had a 2014 Impala do this shit twice.
Yep, they save pennies on a plastic vs steel component and charge the consumer hundreds when it fails. It's too bad.

So to be accurate I only have airflow to the windshield no airflow on my feet so if I just turned it in up slightly I’ll get a little on my feet and a little on the windshield am I getting this correct
I believe so, but the problem I ran into was getting that blend door to remain in one position. Since I didn’t care about the vehicle and I was planning to unload it anyway, I just put a dollop of epoxy on the end of that blend door gear and voila.

To replace the upper blend door? I really don't know because I didn't get into it any further. My guess based on what I saw would be a full day.

I can tell by looking at your hands and nails you are not a professional mechanic. On that note I compliment you for this video, 70% of the "techs" as they so egotistically love to call themselves can not explain this as well as you did. Anyway the real reason for my comment is that the parts are not available to repair, you have to purchase the distribution box which retails for lots, and 600-1000 for labor. Final total for those couple of nylon teeth is going to be anywhere from 1000 to 2000.00 dollars. The higher end being for fans of dealer service.

I found out and checked the blend door I guess module or servo works I can get no air except up through the defroster including hot and cold checked some controls in behind the glove box they seem to work I was told that it’s a door that routes the air two different locations that is a failure of some type of adhesive where the door gets stuck in one location and pulling the entire dashboard is the only option
Did you get a quote to fix by any chance? If our rig was newer, I’d likely yank the dash and fix it, but not at this stage of the game with the mileage and age.

Yikes! If I didn’t mind my vehicle being out of commission for a few days, I would probably pull the dash myself to fix it. When it’s our daily driver, we don’t always have that option. Good luck.
