I hope someday to visit Japan I'm a big sushi lover probably my favorite food to me there's nothing more heavenly maybe crab but I love ramen and tonight I just learned about oden 😊🍜

    • @yummychips_
      @yummychips_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      sorry to be a pooper. Ramen and Sushi are pretty modern for Japan.
      The concept you probably prefer was made last century, and not to far off. Around ww2 era where Japan heavily adopted it. Oden is vastly different. More often than not, its a major culture shock to the pallete. Most westerners might enjoy it as a novelty, but unless you got a strong diverse pallete, your not going to like it due to the strong oden broth flavor.
      Sushi is a whole other story. Authentic sushi is fermented. Very few westerners enjoy this type of cuisine. Evenmoreso since the fish is sour tasting, and some europeans countries create a variation of their own that is salted. Modern sushi has only existed for a few decades. Heck sushi in Japan was heavily popularized by the west. It was a lesser known cuisine in Japan, until it was highlighted by foreigners that some in Japan ate fish raw and fresh.
      The reason I am being a pooper is because of this point. If you live in the west, you can easily enjoy Ramen and Sushi. A lot of major cities have establishments for it. Often times they cater towards the local pallete to. So you can easily still enjoy wonderful Japanese cuisine, albeit not entiretly the same. It still comes close.
      If you want to try Oden, there will be a place to find it locally to.

      Japanese didn't know sushi?? What is the modern sushi? Even newer type of sushi(nigiri) has existed for centuries. Westerners made sushi popular in Japan?? I am at a loss for words😂

Eating the same food leads to trust and cooperation because they feel closer with the feeling of intimacy among those eating together, share the experience with eating and drinking.

    I lived in China for 7 years recently and used to sit at these stalls for BBQ and hot pot stews all night every night until the sun would come up. I would meet hundreds of people a night, eat and drink with the owners of the stalls and then help them pack up. Some nights we would rack up 50 tall beers between us and i would eat over 100 pieces of it by the time the night was through (in China everything is skewered on a stick you can grab from the pot, then you give your sticks back to the owner to pay your bill). Of all the wild shit i did over those 7 years the intimate and close together nights with random people stopping by and chatting about absolutely bullshit with the owners are still my favorite memories. And of all the things that make me want to go back to China it's just to sit there on a not-so-clean road, pigging out, without a worry in the world, genuine human connection, all under the light of the moon.

    When I saw that the ramen is called Shirataki, I realized that Oden's moves from One piece are named after the food, like "Tougen Shirataki" (sorry my english is not good)

    Its weird Japan has these kind of stalls and restaurants.....like a bar.....it's so intimate,to sit there and talk to the chef like a bartender.....and over time the customers and the cook builds a relationship....
    Reminds me of those 80s and 90s movies blade runner and the other......the white guy would sit at these Japanese oden stalls and the Japanese guy would chit chat with him and give him advice.
