The first thing I planted on my lot with terrible soil were black eyed peas from a store bag to begin building healthy soil. I planted various varieties of peas and beans everywhere...even under my fruit trees. Red Ripper Peas are very useful here in Louisiana. They will live off the dew during a drought and I plant them around the edge of the property to feed the wild bunnies so they`re stuffed before they see my main garden plus I get a harvest. I plant pole beans under my okra and sunflowers and they climb the stalks. The bees love pole green bean blooms and even though they rarely set fruit in the heat of summer here I still plant them for the bees because they keep blooming in the heat.
Im growing 3 varieties of pole beans and 2 varieties of bush beans, just picked 5lbs, been eating them daily all week and hoping the rest hold up in the fridge until the weekend so i can them.🤞
5 minutes and 36 seconds that you managed to fill before telling us the only piece of information we came for its beans everyone its just beans if you wanna know her opinion of them thats what the other 8 minutes and 22 seconds is about
Beans have been my favorite crop so far this year! I discovered a brand new variety this year which I love-Blue Lake Superior! They are upright bushy plants, produce prolifically and are tender and delicious raw or steamed! They are a great morning snack while I’m watering the garden. They are perfect for my GreenStalk container gardens! I will be succession planting all season! I heard about them from Growfully with Jenna (similar growing zone as mine 6b in MO) who was a new variety tester in 2023. I found them on Jung Seed and now sold out. But keep your eyes out in the future. I think this will be a big winner! I first heard about you from JJ Heller, one of my favorite singers and I love to see her kitchen garden updates you helped her create! I have both of your books!
Bush Beans - Pole Beans ... Green Beans Growing either low in a bush or trellised on a tall pole - they can be purple or waxed/ivory -, black eyed peas are a bean, so many beans to dry for nice long tern storage.
I added beans to my garden last year for the first time and they did fabulous. Although I will say not too many made it to the table because I would always just eat them while I was out in the garden LOL
I SUSPECTED it was beans from the beginning because they are pretty fool proof and a good starter plant, but I KNEW it was beans at 3:02 when you mentioned it makes nitrogen
I'm not a gardener, yet....I'm in the learning phase. I was guessing peas, lol. You have motivated me to go find some bush beans seeds and start planting!
Try Red Ripper Peas for the deer too. Or just buy a bag of Black Eyed Peas from the store and plant a patch for them. The Red Rippers make thick vines about 15 ft long.
Love beans! And your channel! Are pole beans the same with all the benefits? Rabbits ate the leaves off the bush beans in my garden twice, even after putting netting around it. Pole beans lift the leaves above their reach. I moved to a different house & last year tried potting them, but it was not as bountiful as straight in the dirt. This year, a small waste basket with the bottom cut off, is protecting the lower portion. Do you recommend any other beans besides green?
I love royalty purple and dragon's tongue too. There are lots of bush bean options out there for fresh harvesting! Pole beans have all the same benefits except you need a structure for them to climb, of course. I actually prefer the flavor of pole beans, and you get a more continuous harvest. Very creative on the waste basket!
I plant vining Red Ripper Peas around the edge of my property and the bunnies are stuffed before they ever see my green beans. They will stop and eat their fill and usually they grow more vines. But you can keep sticking a few extra seeds in the ground every few days to overwhelm the nibbling.
Man, i thought it was soy beans, because they are a complete protein. I'm growing Peruvian beans and pinto i bought from the grocery store and they sprouted. 🤜🏽🤛🏽💪🏽
I’ve tried growing two types of beans from seeds I got from bakers creek (so it’s good quality beans) yet im having absolutely no germination lol everything I’ve planted, including hard to start stuff like moringa, lavender, carrots, asparagus is thriving and I live in zone 9b lol I’ve planted over 15 bean seeds and none sprouted 😭 I’ve started a few in my grow tent as well as outdoors to see which would grow yet I’m having no luck! Everything else in my garden thrives but I can’t seem to start beans!
Maybe planted too deep? Had the same issue and this time it worked. I think it was a combo of too deep and too much rain which only dug them deeper for me but this time I went super shallow and they all sprouted
@@Gardenary In Zone 5b when do blackberries grow back their leaves? Mine are still all barely visible buds not sure if all my figs, concord grapes, blackberries and blueberries survived their first year with me 😅 the only thing that has grown back is raspberry
Why do some TH-camrs think an audience wants to hear 5 plus minutes of senseless prattle before they get to the point? I didn't stick around for the punchline
I wouldn't plant this close together in the ground. The raised beds are needed to give roots plenty of room. For my in-ground garden, I give herbs and flowers more space so that they only really touch once they're fully grown in.
NEXT VIDEO SUGGESTION...Your dinner table conversation after your "teenage daughters" watch this video!😂 I've got 7 of these plants in a terracotta pot AND 3 more in a gap in my raised bed. All are bushbeans, but the 3 in the raised beds are acting like pole beans with long runners. ??????
@@Gardenary Blue Lake bush beans. It's getting kind of annoying. Those runners (or whatever they're called) are wrapping themselves around my carrots and beets, which blocks the sun from my jalapeno pepper plants.
@@Cici1791 Thanks for that info. I thought it was strange too. Two of the three Blue Lake plants are doing that. None of my other bush beans have tendrils.
Haha all that talk about how easy beans are right after an unplanned for cold snap just wiped out my entire garden, youtube just throwing salt in the would. On the bright side my 7 year old daughter helped me replant the garden including another row of beans.
I HATE green beans. I'll NEVER grow them. EVERYBODY has always said that I'll love THEIR green beans. I've always hated them. The taste & texture are abhorrent! I choke on them and then throw up! Not allergic, they're just terrible! Beyond the fact that when I was younger, I had to sit for HOURS to clean and snap green beans. I even hated them for all the work involved with them.
@supereight9221 try emirite pole bean. Bush beans are usually more fibrous. Pole bean takes longer to grow but when it starts producing, it will produce non-stop. But while waiting for pole bean plant bush beans 😂or lettuces. Pole beans has long produce seasons

I plant green beans in my garden everywhere, simply to improve the soil.
Although I eat them as well, often it's strategic.
Glad to hear you say this.
Come on guys…you knew it was beans from the pictures in the video. She was giving us a LOT of information on beans. I enjoyed the video.

Peas are great too! A lot of the things I said apply to peas
I knew it was bush beans from the start. I plant them around ALL my beds, soaking them for several hrs helps them germinate a LOT faster.
Already got them planted and can't wait!
me too
I knew from the beginning you were talking about Bush beans and the more you kept saying i was like "Yes, yes, yes!"
Another plant I think is underrated in the northern half of the country is Okra.
Dwarf okra varieties like Little Bubba can be grown up north. I eat my okra raw as a prebiotic.
The local deer love the green beans, too. I grow more just for them.....

I must be a knuckle head. I tried to grow green beans and snap peas- well, let's just say that I failed at it. Will try again next year.
Maybe it was the wrong temp for them? Snap peas like cooler weather

There are so many fun heirloom varieties out there! Dragon's tongue looks really cool and is tasty

Try yellow wax beans. They grow as fast and they are milder in taste. My husband eats like a toddler, but even he will eat these.
