tbone pumper fr you have to feel those kind of things like pressure slipping ducking the hard part is to react to these techniques subconciously which takes years and years of practice
Right. Ward is a fucking Professor. He know how outbox ppl. Fast hands, Fast footwork, Amazing defense. Virgil Hunter with Roger Mayweather is one of the best boxing coach in the boxing.
RagingBull1991 i dont mean this as negative towards the mayweathers as coaches and trainers but besides their family i havent seen them do very well, then i look at virgil and how bad khan looked before and now with virgil he looks much better, i def think its a match up for fighter and trainer obviously you know that too since you box and khan with a very offensive minded trainer like roach was not a god fit, khan was a wrong match cause he with his suspect chin needs to be more cautious on defense and roach isnt a great defensive coach or atleast he doesnt stress it that much, i watch pacquiao against de la hoya and his defense was ok, but now he has gotten very lazy in his defense with that cover up and trade thing manny does now, but i think virgil teaches the small things as well as anyone in the game probably the best
brad harris Completely agree with you. Khan in the last match against Alexander was so so good. Faster than before and with good defense. Chin is his problem, he was dominating against Garcia then Garcia got lucky with that hook also because khan went completely opened.
RagingBull1991 yea but im from philly and know danny a little i cant say yea to that , but danny does have a tendency to land those sweeping counter hooks , at harrrowgate they used to have tourneys and he did it al the time, now hes working on that right to the body left hook to the head, seems to be working
This is why I don't think GGG would beat Ward. Not only is he faster and naturally bigger but he is too versatile. Dude is talking about formlessness. Too smart and too many tools.
Andre ward is also not only younger, faster and overall a better boxer than GGG, but he is also proven and more accomplished. Ward was an underdog going into the super six tournament where he basically schooled everybody he wasn't suppose to beat. Ward also won an Olympic gold medal and in the process beating the gold medal favorite Evengy makarenko who at the time was captain of the russian and was also a 2x world amateur champion. GGG is not only older than Ward, but has barely beat anybody who is world class level. people often claim that ggg may be just as good of a technical boxer as Ward because of his amateur background. But why is it that despite GGG allegedly winning 350+ amateur fights he was never able to win gold in the Olympics, instead he got out classed and lost the gold medal to a russian amateur boxer.
TheExecutioner67 I co-sign everything you said and thank you for sharing your knowledge. It's good to hear an intelligent well reasoned comment. Peace.
Ward is the boxing ambassador of today!!! He is the complete package as a fighter. I say this because he is first a family man who loves his wife. He is well spoken and never has any controversy centered around him. He is highly intelligent and clean-cut. This is the man, as a fighter, he's a super boxer with good speed and moderate power. He can fight on the inside as well as the outside. His defense is superb. His hand/eye coordination is great and his ring-generalship is amazing! On top of that, he has the mental toughness of James Toney and Bernard Hopkins. I really do think he is almost willing to die in that ring. Right now, Showtime has the best fighters. I think Andre Ward is really saving HBO at this point. He is truly a class act.
The fact that ward is one of the smartest and greatest boxers and mentions Floyd so much tells you that greats recognize greats. Ion care what casual fans says they boring or not, until you box a smart boxer, and getting picked apart round by round you know how great they are.
Thank you champ. Great stuff from the best. I had my first bout at the age of 54. I trained myself and hired a trainer 3 weeks before the fight. I was a weight lifter and benched well over 400 and legs are very strong too. Lost forty pounds to fight at light heavy. I had to fight a 3 time national champion, still a novice though. He dominated me in first round. I was learning on the job, I started clinching and using my strength advantage on the inside and made a strong comeback and lost by split decision. I just learned a ton from this demonstration and definitely gonna use it if I get to fight again.
Bit of an old post, but this really stuck out to me. Its inspiring. If you dont mind me asking, what made you pick up boxing at 54 and want to compete?
@@johnv7968 Sorry, i just now saw this... I was run over by a Lincoln town car traveling approximately 40 mph. I was trying to get a mentally ill person out of the street. I was hit square in the stomach. I was bleeding internally on the way to the hospital and just made it in time to go into a coma from loss of blood. I was told i was 1/100 to survive. I had 6 inches of small intestine removed and 4 herniated back discs. I had been working in LE as a corrections officer. I could no longer restrain people when the need occurred without risking serious damage to myself. I left my job, but i still wanted to be able to defend myself and others if a situation occurred. I found that with boxing you stay loose and strike and i could do that without it causing too much pain or risk of further injuring my back. So that's how i got started. I always trained before, but not boxing. I'm addicted to it. I'd like to be the oldest man to have his first pro fight. I know I'm in condition for it and i saw a 56 year old pro fighter on TH-cam out of Australia. I feel that I'm better, so if he can do it. So can I. ❤️ Also, like Andre, i like to fight on the inside and use my strength. The clinching and bumping doesn't bother my back.
Also i have a left torn bicep, tricep and pectoralis, and 2 torn rotator cuffs.. The shoulders don't bother me, the Dr said i had plenty of reserve strength as she could put all her weight on my shoulders and still couldn't push them down.. so i didn't have to have surgery. My left hand compensates for the other injuries as I'm naturally ambidextrous. Have a torn left hamstring tendon. Can't Sprint, but doesn't bother me the way you move in boxing. Also right thigh has some permanent shrinkage and numbness, but i pay no attention to it. So technically I'm partially disabled, but that only motivates me further. I already had punching power before learning how to punch properly. Of course I'm never going to be a world champion at this age, but I'd be dangerous to non dedicated average fighters i believe of any age. I just need that dream and goal to keep me motivated ❤️ I'm in the process now of trying to learn how to find a promoter interested in me. I think it's something people would want to see and be interested in. Some of them anyway. My motor skills aren't damaged from years of fighting and i wouldn't be fighting anyone world class. Plus they'll be surprised at how fast i can move and my stamina at this age. I live like a monk. Eat everything healthy, limit stress (no longer work) train religiously and through exhaustion. We all need something to motivate us❤️
That's inspiring, thanks. I used to train in a boxe gym some years ago and had to stop bc of med school (too much pressure, couldn't unwind with the drills and sparring sessions), now I'm out of shape and a bit scared of going back to it, but I really want to. If you manage to do it at 54, I have no excuses to not to try :)
Love this footwork acknowledgement as well. This IS always the most important thing. You can defend by moving, rather than just blocking (I think these are the two best ways to defend, excepting offence). Feet and legs encompass much of power, speed, and economy of punching effort, depending on subtlety of movement. You often see Ward bending down to block, so he's blocked, possibly avoided, and put himself in position to throw (esp.) power uppercuts or hooks. If you do Muay Thai this can be used to roundhouse kick without stepping as well.
its kinda douchy the way he asks great black fighters go give away their game like that. hes not asking kovalev or ggg that kind of shit. its like when they send someone to join a particular gym so they can spy on another fighter.
