Control effects are silence, disarm, etc. All attributes that is reduced by 30-60% because of the awakening - control effect description is what you see on the battle reports attributes tab including special attack and special defence.
I don't look at the top left for melee/ support/ range as it can be misleading instead I look at the range of the skill 2, 5, 8 Black knight awakening made it where it not only can be used mix marches in gss or gsg but even gcc with carpenter and cypho. That's due to how it made the enemy sqyads under control effect by the bk to where their dmg output had been heavily reduced like if they had 200% sp. atk down 140-170%.
