The 11th Golden youth award camp was held from 5th to 15th July 2018 in capital. 80 participants from all over the country participated in the camp. They were the brightest students of class 10 from their Dzongkhags who were selected trough series of selection interviews both at school and Dzongkhag level.
Prior to the actual camp, the participants attended three days GNH values workshop in Bhutan Institute of wellbeing at Chimithangkha. The actual camp began from 9th July.
Participants also attended day long training on innovation and design thinking with the technical expertise from UNICEF. This was conducted mainly to empower young people to think of “new ways to champion change in their communities”
The theme for 11th GYA camp is celebrating Unity-for Excellence wherein the participants celebrate the glorious years of peace, prosperity and unity under the leadership of our monarchs. The 11h GYA camp is a pledge of youth to advocate for and be agents & ambassadors of peace, harmony and tranquility.
Participants took part in the literary activities, games and sports, talents and edutainment programs. They were evaluated through these activities to see their competency level, talents and skills. The winner receives the scholarship to study abroad.
Unlike in the past, where the social service is done is a form of plantation & awareness campaign, this year, an edutainment program was organized whereby the participants educate people through entertainment programs. This was one in Dehencholing and Click tower where our young participants get to perform with local actors, actresses and comedians.
After a 8 days of partition in series of programs, the GYA camp was concluded on 14th July 2018 with an grand closing program. With the Prime Minister as a guest of honor, many higher officials from government, private sectors, District Education Officers & school principals joined the closing event. With the closing event, YDF launched a microsite called Innovation lab which will be an online platform for young people to submit their community project proposals. This can also be a platform to share the issue concerning young people.
