    It's great that you take the time to learn the history then fix and understand the mechanicals and electrics on all these cars and 4x4s with care and thoughtfulness.
    Such an antidote to most other wrap/loud exhaust/bling type channels

    I had forgotten how much maneuvering was needed to replace a Sprite starter. Years ago I helped my older brother’s friend work on his ‘58 Sprite. Being younger my hands were smaller. The number one car looks mighty good.

    Hi Steve, You did exactly the right thing with number one. It would be sacrilidge to restore it. Best of luck with no. two. Look forward to the next episode.

    Awesome find! My bugeye sprite has been in our family since 1968, before I was born, I restored it as a teenager, drove to meet Geoffrey Healey in it, he has even driven my car! Still have it, love it love to hear more about the story behind these 6 cars mate!

    Wow, what an amazing haul of 1950's British motoring heritage, sadly because of our salted roads these are a real rarity in the UK now with most eaten away by the dreaded tin worm

    Number one is a ten in my book, maintain and drive. Turned out great!! Number two is being difficult with lots of small fixable problems that just take time. Next video hope to see it running. May out shine one when done.

    Love these things. I worked on a couple of later Midgets, one was a 1275 engined hill climb car. Huge fun. Looking forward to the next vid. Thanks.

    Looking at the green engine reminds me of my brothers Austin America. He was beating the crapola out of it and blew the headgasket. So I did that job, but the valves -seals were leaking -took it to the engine machine shop for valve job and resurface the head. Rebuilt the carbs as well. Fine running little machine when Finished. I appreciate your videos, no b.s. just the facts and you are a good mechanic.

    Is there no starting handle for these cars? - with their age I'd expect it - it sure looks like akin to to a Morris Minor engine and that one has it - and such are extremely useful, especially in cold winters to loosen up an engine before the start-attempt.

    • @robbending3848
      @robbending3848 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was going to say the exact same thing. My 59 MGA has a starting handle. Very useful - especially when the battery's a little tired.
      In this case would be great to turn the engine over with a drop of oil in the bores.

    Something from the days when cars were simple enough for kids to fix and learn about car engines, with the added advantages of affordable parts and easy access. And when completed, an easy to maintain daily driver that they could feel proud of, and something that they can really enjoy driving . These little sports cars were, and are still, a lot of fun. I know that good examples now are not that cheap, but back in the day they were pretty affordable.

    • @davidhutchison3343
      @davidhutchison3343 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      frglee sprites used the classic A series engine and gearbox, so parts were plentiful and cheap. Lovely cars to work on.

    Number 1 looks great. As you say keep it as is. Same goes for number 2 although it's going to take more hands on to get running.l must have seen the Interceptor before as l think l remember the flared wings/fenders. They're becoming pretty collectable. i.e. valuable. Your obviously well known for your collection and knowledge if other shops come to get spares.

    You hooked the battery up backwards. These cars were positive ground cars. Turn the battery around and try again you might get the starter to spin.

    I'm willing to bet that the oil pressure gauge sprang a leak and oil got everywhere thus no carpets , was a very common problem .

      No there is no clearance to the crank pulley on these cars.

  • @scottparis6355

    These must have come from somewhere in the South or South West.
    In Michigan, with our 9 month winters and liberal use of salt, these cars just dissolved somewhere around 1990.

    1:18 that looks very untidy, you could spend an extra 45 seconds and loom the wires so they are not leaning on stuff and looking like a rat's nest. My opinion though, I am sure it runs as is.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you probably did not notice is that I have installed a cap from a later model that uses modern type HT leads so the wire do not come out on the side of the cap as they did originally. The new wires are also a set length as purchased which are much longer than those originally fitted. I did this for ease of use and serviceability.

    • @freddyrosenberg9288
      @freddyrosenberg9288 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dominic Pace LOL, yeah , the hate is just dripping right off me. I do engine swaps and wiring is what distinguishes the chop shop from the pro's as soon as you open the hood.

    I get that you need to check the oil but why not spend $20 and change the bloody stuff rather than spread 20 years plus of rusty oil and condensed water around the engine.

  • @421CentralIowa
    @421CentralIowa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks like you're un-partsing a former parts car that was being robbed to get one of the others going. I'm trying to picture in my brain where all these are. After the plague I need to visit to see if you've started suspending them from the ceiling with aircraft cable.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are correct that someone was using it for parts. Shame because it would have been a good car just as it is.

    Loooong before the advent of OBD-95. Today's sports-boats lose a lot in the translation. Sure, reliability is better... But the fun factor is lacking.
